Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

GOODBYE MITCH CLARK

Recommended Posts

I have spoken to someone quite high up in the club and they have told me that there Mitch is completely free to do whatever he wants in terms of moving clubs. The MFC has no rights in regards to him playing for us. This person believed there is a 50-50 chance that Mitch will be playing for Fremantle next year (this person also told me Mitch was going to retire a month before it happened which I posted on a previous thread so do not doubt the source). So if he plays, don't expect it to be in the red and the blue :(

Might wanna tell your " informant" to get off the herbs, why would be be playing for freo next year if he is living in Melbourne now, he is retired now, no reason he couldn't have moved home, but didn't, still turns up to our trainings, still tweeting and supporting our lads

you're just a dill making crap up

Hate to have a Captain Obvious moment, but Mitch will either play footy again (be it for us or someone else - here or out west) or he won't. We, the general public, will find out one way or another at the end of the season. No point stressing over someone and something that we have no control over.

good point

we also have no control over whether we can beat Collingwood next week, so there is no point discussing that either

might as well just shut down the forum or restrict all conversation to things that have already happened

Wow, someone is having a cranky pants moment.

Btw, there is a difference between discussing and stressing. Take it easy.

If his plan was to go to Freo, it makes zero sense for him to come to us begging to reneg on his contract and retire. He'd find an amicable way to get a trade out west, so we end up getting something out of it.

It would be the dog act of the century and he'd probably go down as one of the most despised players of all time. That isn't Mitch Clark.

There is no place on a speculative DL thread for such a reasonavle post. Shame on you

A couple of the usual circus monkeys get involved and thread turns to crap.

Some things are more important than footy, let this be.

What I tried to say earlier, but apparently I hit some sort of nerve with Curry. I agree that Mitch's wellbeing is more important than footy.

Come on, he'll either make a comeback to footy with us, or not make one at all. Pigs will fly before Clark's playing at Freo. Not everyone is Tom Scully. The guy's attitude towards the club from Day 1 was exemplary, and he continues to show his support of the club on twitter and I'm sure in real life too. He's a Melbourne man through and through.

Of course they would say that wouldn't they? To do otherwise would be totally irresponsible and entirely defeat the purpose of him retiring in the first place i.e take away continuous speculation by the Press and supporters about his return (and accompanying innuendo about his pay packet) to give him room to recover.

I might point out Clark lives in Melbourne, I understand has bought a house here with his girlfriend, and is developing his own photography business in the Melbourne market. I doubt he would do those things if his intention was to hot foot it back to Perth to play for Freo. I might also point out that as far as MFC official records are concerned (I.e. the Club's website) he remains on the MFC list until the end of the year. They also have made no official announcement to my knowledge that he has been removed. If this is so they are free to reengage him at year's end without him going on the market as he has one more year left on his contract.

Defeating Collingwood is entirely in our own hands. Whether we play well, maintain our structures, everyone plays their role (to use Roosy's favourite cliches) is almost entirely up to us. Mitch's recovery is in the lap of the Gods and Medical Science.

Having said that the more speculation about this there is does not help his return. He retired in order to get away from the continuous speculation about his return from the Press and supporters. I think maybe we all (including me) should shut up about this and let the future take its course.

don't tell people what to talk about, it is one thing to carp on about oliver wines endlessly, but in this threadwe are discussing the possibility that we will regain a genuine coleman medal type forward and one of the very best I have seen in red and blue in the last decade. Having him back is worth about 6 spots on next year's ladder! It is worth discussing, if you are not interested, we do not need to know that you are not interested

BTW if you are suggesting that MC going to another club after this is fine and dandy i will take extreme issue with that

He said that he'll always remember himself as a MFC player. Whilst I've also heard a strong rumour about Freo fancying their chances, I just don't believe that he would say such a thing and then pull on another clubs guernsey.

I wonder if a condition of breaking his contract would be that he couldn't sign with a club other than MFC for a certain period of time?

Not telling anyone what to talk about. Suggest you take your own advice and not tell me what I am supposed to think.

I also find it curious that my thoughts are not that different from some others on this thread, yet I'm the only one you are trying to push around or criticising.

Hey guys, long time viewer first time poster today. My dad just had a chat with a person high within the club and asked about the details surrounding this Mitch Clark stuff. He said that Mitch's foot is absolutely 100% fixed and no problems what so ever. He apparently has been out of the game so long that every time he tries to train, he gives himself a new injury. This is why we have been hearing the hamstring problems, calf problems etc. etc. He has said to have told the club he is a 50-50 chance of retiring in the next few weeks from afl. He has been granted leave by the club so he can go home and get his mind off everything and hopefully come back with the desire to still want to get back to training and playing for us. I really hope that after his break away from the club he will decide he still has unfinished business at MFC and wants to keep trying! "

And whats that? He retired on the 8th of April, 3 weeks after my dad spoke to the same source I did.

Don't doubt the source. Not saying he will definitely play again and has already made plans to move, just that if he does, there is a 50-50% chance of it being for Freo with Melbourne having no contractual rights to stopping him. Chris Dawes apparently has spoken to the source and completely disagrees with them so will have to wait for it to unfold for ourselves.

I really think most people knew there was a chance he might retire, but I think a lot of his actions since have been that he still loves the club, not that he has his bags packed for freo.

Yea like I said nothing is confirmed. I hope to hell they are wrong! He was an absolute star for us and wish he got out on the park a bit more before he retired. Great to see he went to our training, shows he is a good guy

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
