and the game was disgusting to watch. all i saw was 2 hours of ball ups, boundary throw ins and players throwing the ball to each other

As much as Jack Grimes cost us the chance to get back in front, we were ALREADY behind when he stuffed up....courtesy of Nathan Jones

Why would you ever play on with half the opposition team around you when your teammate has won you a free kick in the final two minutes of the game?

Because Jones occasionally falls into bad habits and tries to do too much rather than take the best option.

The umpires were terrible BUT we were infront with 3:30 on the clock.. Jones choosing to selfishly take the advantage and run into a wall of port players, Dawes kicking the ball back into CHF when the kick needed to be long down the line.. Grimes' kick on the full was terrible, BUT we should have never been in the situation in the first place. Also anyone see jones give cassisis a little punch to the face in the last in the forward 50, suspect he'll be missing the Brisbane game

The free against watts at the end of the third quarter was awful, he spoilt the ball and got a free against for it

Composure. Where can we buy a truck load of that?

Another pre with PR will get rid of a lot wasteful episodes.

It s starting to take a little bit of shape already.

Backline slowly being molded and mids being groomed for next year.

Forwards accepting chances and not wasting them, next thing to be fixed.

Despite the heartbreaking nature of the loss, I hope this is the game where the penny FINALLY dropped.
Roosy talks about an 18 man offence and the need to play it all game. He talks about how our players take a rest when they kick over the mark.
We play four quarters of football the way we did after the break and then we no longer have to talk about these games that just got away.
5 goal comebacks make for thrilling footy but they don't make for winning footy.

Some dumb footy and I'm bloody frustrated but, hell, there's some upside here without question. Dyson has been a revelation.

Shame, especially considering it was Watts, no reward for a genuine spoil.

Umpires were a disgrace.

Our composure is non existent

Our co captain should captain Casey

Our goal kicking is a joke

WTF do we have to give up a 30 point lead every damn week only to fight our butts off to get back in the game!!!

Oh and again.... the umpires FFS

Thrown away by our senior players !! Along with dire umpiring

Is it too much to ask for Grimes to learn how to kick.

Where is the composure from the leaders ?

Tyson was brilliant. What a complete game. 32 touches, 2 goals and 7 tackles.

Umps cost us at least 5 goals. The commentators are so gutless for not pointing it out. How was the HTB against Viney in the first qtr?

I'm going to make a highlights video of this game and point out all the garbage.

Grimes should be beheaded

Had a gutfull of Dawes, he gets about 3 touches a game and then fluffs simple set shots with them

Watts what in the name of God is wrong with this bloke's head? He can play an absolute blinder of a qtr and do zero for the other 3

Massive error having Kent as the sub

That's SIX losses by 20 points or less, had we won them all we'd be 6th on the ladder. FMD.

That Dawes kick is forgivable as he put it to space for someone to run on to.... Grimes and Jones''s error were not forgivable

No way, that was the thing that cost us the game, why centre it to 3 on 1 when you have all your forwards leading to the pocket and we were dominating the stoppages in the last quarter, absolutely dominating. Crazy crazy absolutely ludicrously rediculous decision by a supposed leader that swung momentum back to Port (we had all the momentum up to the point and the lead FFS) leading directly to their go ahead goal. Roosy, must be just dumbfounded at how stupid his players are.

It's was pleasing to see JKH and Blease back. They make us look much more threatening than the vanilla duo of Matt Jones and Terlich. Good selections this week.

Did we get done by 10 goals? Going by the above it feels like it.

Jones made a costly error which is inexcusable but if it wasn't for his 31 touches we aren't in the game.

Dom Tyson is back in form, our forward line finally functioned properly for the first time in a few weeks and the changes made were telling. Jones and Terlich try hard but lack some poise and class. Tapscott and Blease, while not necessarily winning much of the ball, kicked a couple of important goals and gave us something around the ground. JKH and Kent also provided some spark and will give us more going forward.

Disappointing loss but still plenty to like and we can look at the Lions game at Etihad in a fortnight with far morwe confidence.

All errors that cost us the game no doubt - so did all the soft frees paid to Poooort in the 2nd and the Watts in the 3rd

I can forgive these errors as in the heat of the battle the boys tried to win the game.... Lets analyise the whole contenst and not isolate one or two incdents late..... it did looks selfish from Jones and i have no doubt he'd take it back but he tired to create something to win the game - like the Dees of 2014 just not good enough... yet

All teams will say umps cost them or were against them, we see things from our teams perspective.

We lost the game, not the umps, not port.

no actually you are wrong, there ARE occasions when a side gets completely shafted (funnily enough it is often a Victorian side playing interstate and very often in SA) and it is pretty obvious when you lose by a kick that it is a simple cause and effect

Yep... Shut up shop and keep possession of the ball. They can't score without the footy. Our "leaders" failed us when their composure was required.

I along with most of us are sick of having wins taken away from us from players who stuff up when the heat is on and they usually come fr our so called experienced senior players !!! So so cheesed off

I wrote the exact same thing in the game day thread.

There seriously needs to be an independent inquiry into AFL umpiring... We all saw it... This match was fixed...

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
