Was just reported on channel 7.

Personally awsome news. Its showed that him missing has been a big blow for this club. His direction and leadership on field is something we are lacking at the moment.

Well done Crossy! Good hard country tough nut!

Good news, great professional and showing our boys the importance of preparation and getting the best out of yourself

Little confused. He originally signed for 2 years IIRC, he's been good this year but at +30, I don't know if we needed to extend his contract 18 months before it ends. People won't be knocking the door down for him..

I'm glad he's around next year for sure, but not sure he's best 22 Round 22 next year let alone the year after.

On another note, just Wikipediaed him and found this.

I had never heard this and surprised more is not made from it. What a *ucking phenomenal bloke.

Goes as follows:

"On 4 October 2007, Cross and teammate Tom Williams leaped into the water of Victoria Harbour in Hong Kong to rescue a schoolgirl attempting to commit suicide. Despite the girl not wanting to be saved, they hauled her to safety after hearing bystanders screaming for help. When they emerged from the harbour they both had minor bruises and cuts. Both were reported to be in good spirits after the incident.

Following the incident, both Cross and Williams were awarded certificates of commendation by Hong Kong's Director of Marine."

Signed a one year deal with a trigger clause.

Well deserved, he's essentially a coach out on the field and you know he's going to give everything he's got out there.

I was absolutely stoked that we signed Daniel Cross last year, and, to date, he has exceeded the very high expectations I had of him.

His on-field presence is sorely missed at the moment.

In short, an extremely important player for this club.

This is really good news.

On and off the field a real leader.

We have missed this type for many years.

Fantastic news to have his services again

Is it just me that thinks cross could play even longer than that?

Potentially.

But I'd wait to see how 2015 goes first.

There won't exactly be other clubs banging down the door to pinch him away from us, but when the end comes, it often comes quickly.

Lets just take it year by year atm.

If I was the man with the contracts I'd take it year by year. It's only prudent with a man his age.

As a supporter I have the right to get as far ahead of myself as I like. Cross seems the sort to be able to play for quite a while. He's never relied on pace, and the fact that he hasn't had any soft tissue injuries has to be a good sign. It would not surprise me if he made it to a third or fourth season with us.

let him play for as long as he can. His quality and footy ability together with his "follow me this is how it's done" are priceless.

That's what I mean one year contracts at a time is fine but I reckon this won't be his last

It seems the intensity of the whole team dropped over the past few weeks when he is not there. Very important as part of the on field learning and teaching of the young guys I am so happy he will stay the journey Fantastic!

I must admit I didn't realise how good he was going to be. He makes his wage by his on field stuff alone but his real value, I believe, has been as a role model.

We have had a serious vacuum in leadership over the past decade and Daniel is an example for not only the younger players to follow but a template for our current leaders. His preparation and dedication are second to none and apparently is a fine human being as well. I can understand why the Bulldogs let him go but they pretty much gave us their version of Junior McDonald.

Very important player for us. No so much about what he brings on the field, but his drive and competitiveness off the field. Our young guys have a lot to learn from Daniel Cross.

Still in our best 22, sign him up.

one thing thats really impressed me about Cross that i didnt expect was how good his overhead marking is

He could. He is a person that takes training very seriously and just works so hard. They said before the dogs game he spent 10 grand on a ice machine so he can use it to fix himself at home so he can recover more quickly. Very thorough player.

Very good signing given the state our list. Will add value even if he doesn't play a game.

Great news - Can't see why Cross couldn't play for another 2 years before transitioning to a development coach role when the younger players move ahead of him on field. Reminds me alot if Jnr MacDonald

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
