  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He was probably unhappy cause Roos told him a few home truths and that we don't want him.

Cya.

Yes.. that's exactly what Roos would tell him - we don't want you.

Happy to listen to the debates about his efforts over the year and what his actual worth is.

But Roos telling him that we don't want him - now we are getting into the realms of fairy tales.

I suspect if Frawley was unhappy about his exit interview, Roos the professional would have discussed his gulf this year between being effective and being half hearted in his approach especially at the tail end of the year.

I amused by posters suggesting that club will be glad to have him gone because of his weak efforts. This is the same club that voted him 8th in the best and fairest putting him ahead Jetta, Viney, Watts, Grimes, Dawes and Pederson.

I too saw him plod for the last third of season - was he alone in doing this ? Was he the sole contributor to losing the last 10 ?

He will go and we will pick up a first band draft pick ( hopefully) and we move on.

We will move on to next years free agent who delays talks (bookmark it) and becomes the biggest spud to ever play for our club and we are better off seeing the back of him.

The guy wants to play finals and earn as much as he can.

This is the system the AFL has created.

The anger needs to stop.

We should just appreciate his efforts and hope that he has 4 boys who are all good footballers and then when they are draft age we are a strong club to which they can come as father sons.

What Redleg says is true, but surely you know why many people 'cannot come to grips with FA'. Many of us bemoan the way it changes the relationship between supporters and players and the club. Some unfairly react against the individual players in frustration.

As I posted elsewhere, once the relationship with the club becomes a purely business one and the value of membership becomes largely a financial decision about the best way to attend matches, supporters like me who can't get to matches often will drop their membership. The AFL doesn't care because it is full of empire builders who eye the dollars/pounds and glamour of the EPL.

100% correct - but we can moan all we like - FA is here and we are seeing the results of it. Some will drop off supporting AFL - I will be semi hypocritical and fully support the club and the players with the knowledge that my support for the players will have to be conditional as more and more test the free agency waters and move to green pastures.

The solution for us to become one of those greener pastures - easier said than done.

I would say we as a club have done OK out of free agency. We stuffed up getting Byrnes as it effected our return for Rivers and Moloney but Sylvia was a win for us and if Frawley goes and we get a Band 1 compensation this again will be well overs for Frawley. To get Pick 3 for him gives us every chance to get a deal done for a better players than Frawley.

Sometimes hard to tell.

I am just amused with some posters who's opinion on certain players is purely a reflection of the players contract status.

If Jones doesn't sign by mid next season I will watch as he has goes from a triple B&F winner who bleeds red and blue to a player with limited ability who we can replace with pick 20 draftee.

That's not the scenario.

The scenario will be that Jones will be treated differently to Frawley. The same decision by different players inferred in one way for players one likes and another, more dastardly and conspiratorially, for players we don't like.

FA has changed the landscape and there will be more and more players, important players, who delay their signing of any contract until the point at which they can make a fully informed decision - the October they are literally a Free Agent.

Teams are not allowed to talk to players outside of October but we all know that is not policed - in the US it is enforced, so much so that players have calls from teams at 12.01am in the morning of their Free Agency window.

The animosity toward Frawley based purely on speculation is more than disheartening, it's unnecessary and it's will become less relevant as more and more players take their time in FA.

One day soon, Free Agents will be barred from signing any contract extension until the window opens and the game will be better for it.

Tell me more about "the relationship between supporters and players and the club". Because, reading this forum, it seems like the supporters want to trade / delist 90% of our players after every bad game. But when you have a player investigating what is the best for his career and his future, everyone wants to stick the boots in. It sounds like you want the players to suck up and take whatever comes there way, just waiting for the guillotine to fall. Sorry, but that's not the way the world works.

Too right, Redleg. Not only that, but those who moan about Frawley presumably appreciate Daniel Cross, Bernie Vince and Dom Tyson, who all came to us as a result of the same AFL system.

Reading the forum of course you see a lot of posters putting the boot into players and the club. Often out of frustration and sometimes wrongly. But if they didn't care they wouldn't post. That is part of the 'relationship'. If footy just becomes a spectator business, the relationship changes. I like watching movies, but I wouldn't give a damn if Paramount/Universal/whatever failed. I do when the MFC does. Will I in 10 years time if players change jumpers every season or two?

I haven't stuck the boot into any FA player. I understand why they want to maximise their earnings etc. Yes, the world works differently than it used to. I regret that. I assume you are not saying it is somehow immoral for anyone to regret the change?

Slightly different as Cross delisted and Vince and Tyson traded, for better picks by their clubs, but I agree generally.

Red... I doubt Chip is going to Kittyland for any more than we offered. Its just to play finals and fair enough. He might have saved much grief though by shutting up and not offering up the bullshlt he did. This in my estimation lowered his credentials to many a Dee supporter, myself included.

Im quite happy for him to go and to go wherever. Its a job.

There should be a "numbnuts are banned from speaking to media " clause in players like Frawley's contracts

It's quite amusing to have some inside knowledge of the situation, then seeing posers like Picket Fence making strong obvious proclamations, and acting as if they have some idea of the real situation when the reality is that they don't.

They've just hitched their star to an obvious wagon that most remain unsure of, then hammered the point home with such surety as they attempt to convince others their bluff is legit.

Laughable really.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
