Listening to the radio tonight, I heard that GWS's leadership group has suspended Greene for 5 games and fined $5000. And that people for Greene have said that it is too severe a penalty. At this point, Greene should keep his head down and lay low.

It was announced that Greene will appeal the decision... as it was handed down by the leadership group, I would say that would make his position at GWS pretty much untenable.

Interesting to consider to whom or to what body would he appeal?

Court of Arbitration in Sport?

Imagine were he "reinstated". He would be as popular as a ham sandwich at a batmitzva. Even having the gall to appeal a ruling by his peers will make him even more of an outcast than his actions to date have.

Surely finished at GW$ if not at AFL altogether.

May fit in at Collingwood with Marley Williams.

Hawthorn or Geelong may back their leadership groups in to get him on the straight and narrow, but other then them I couldn't see anyone else willing to take a punt on him.

As you said surely he wont go through and appeal this. Would be counter productive for him, sure he may get the fine reduced/waived and same with his suspension, but Ward and co can tell the coach that they wont play with him and he'll just spend his time running around in the 2's and would just put other clubs off recruiting him even more so then they probably already are.

Suck it up you idiot and just request a trade at season's end!

Just not to the Demons.

I think he's got a lot more to worry about than this. The kid is in trouble and might be best to pull his head in and get the club behind him.

I just saw that on Fox Footy, that is an incredible slap in the face to his leaders. The guy has gone out drinking while injured and allegedly got into not one but two altercations, he is facing very serious charges that could land him in jail (and terminate his contract) and he's appealing the decision?

What happens if he's successful? He still has to play at the club, they could just leave him in their reserves for as long as they want as punishment. I also believe there are financial rewards as well that goes with playing certain amount of games the seniors, they keep him in the 2's for longer and he loses out on the $$$$. I would've thought someone in his position would want all the brownie points he could muster with the club for his playing future and for that matter any future he could see at another club.

Geez, the epitome of shooting one self in the foot. Sounds like all the rumours floating around about the kid were true. Absolute [censored] and not well liked by teammates.

Sounds like Greene needs to be back around his family.

We are quick to forget that he is only a young man, I don't necessarily think he is a bad man - he just stuffed up on the grog.

I've been violent myself in the past, one good leveler is always to get back in the family structure.

I think in this instance, the 5 weeks is basically an indefinite suspension, the club won't play Greene until he works on his issues.

Another incident and the kids trade value will drop significantly. From a club point of view, put him on the shelf.

One would think atm, he'd be very short odds to return home.

For the right price, I'd consider Greene, but I'd be hesitant to give away a top 10 pick.

Unfortunately that seems to be part of his problem, has a chip on the shoulder.

He will be lucky to be available let alone be traded. It's a pity Tommy is not around anymore, he's the kind of guy that might get through to this kid but then again he really does have to start taking responsibility at his age.

There's no way I would consider Greene at this stage.

Or Percy Cerety(spelling).....had a few sessions with him......He knew how to take the big heads down.

Stevie J copped a 5 game suspension for going out on the p!ss early in his career. Took the medicine with remorse. Three premiership medals and a stack of AAs later.....

Even Stokes copping it sweet after being busted with coke.

Look at the player he is now.

I get the feeling Greene's first season well and truly went to his head.

Appealing the decision smacks of arrogance and lack of remorse. The kid needs to be brought down a peg or two. Hope he is sacked and no other club touches him.

we just don't know though, the whole thing could be rubbish and he was acting in self-defence or whatever, if that were me in that position i'd be looking to make a statement about my good name by appealing also

or he's a scumbag and refuses to take responsibility for it

Think it is best to work this out in house - whatever the cause of the brawl it looks like he broke a lot of team rules. The examples of Stevie J and Stokes are apt. There is a subculture within the AFL of entitlement and untouchability that needs a firm hand.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
