THE END OF DEMONLAND (Coming Soon?)

Demonland

Recommended Posts

Due to the fact that we have had issues during peak times for the site we have had to up the specs on our dedicated server and as a result it is costing us $150 a month up from $90. In addition we have bi-yearly forum software costs which include much needed tech support as well as other associated costs. These costs are all mounting and it is all coming out of my own pocket. This cannot be sustained for much longer and as a result we might see the end of this site in the not too distant future.

Many Demonlanders have generously assisted over the past few years and those generous donations have been much appreciated. However, this just isn't enough to sustained the ongoing costs.

If you love using Demonland to talk about the Dees with fellow tragics then the best way for you to help is to take out a Demonland.com membership/subscription. You can either take out a one off annual membership which entitles you to a year of Demonland minus the annoying advertising on the site. You also get access to the mobile skin for viewing the site nicely on your smartphone. Or you can contribute a little bit more and take out a Lifetime membership which offers you the same as the annual membership but for life.

If you have already taken out a Demonland subscription and want to continue to help contribute to keeping this site running then you can always donate to us here - http://demonland.com...ex.php?/donate/

The costs for a Demonland.com membership is as follows:

Annual Demonland.com membership is $30 per year (1 year subscription of Demonland.com without advertisements. Also includes access to the Mobile Skin for Smartphones).

Lifetime Demonland.com membership is $70 for life (Lifetime subscription to Demonland.com without advertisements. Also includes access to the Mobile Skin for Smartphones).

You can subscribe by clicking the Subscription tab under the main Demonland logo at the top of the page next to the Home tab and follow the prompts through to PayPal.

Or simply click this link - http://demonland.com.../subscriptions/

The mobile skin looks like this on your smartphone:

It's easier to read on a smartphone than the full site so if you do the majority of your reading of Demonland on your phone then the mobile skin is great. The software does of course recognise the device you are using so if you have a subscription but are viewing on your PC or iPad then it will display the full site. If you are viewing on your iPhone then it will display the mobile skin. If you are viewing the mobile skin on your phone and you want to view the full site there is a convenient button at the bottom and top of the page that allows you to switch back to the full site.

Also, in addition to access to the mobile skin the subscriptions remove the advertising on the site to give you a better viewing experience of the site on your PC or MAC.

Here is a screenshot of the site with ads:

We also have a Work Friendly skin for those users who browse the site at work and would like it to blend in a little better than the red and blue theme of the normal site skin. The Work Friendly skin is sure to fool your boss and work colleagues into thinking that you are working and not goofing off on Demonland. This is an added benefit for those that sign up as Annual or Lifetime Member.

Here is what the Work Friendly skin looks like:

All proceeds from subscriptions go towards paying for the site costs and periodically if there is anything left in the kitty I throw some of it Nasher's way for the amazing job he does in keeping the site's backend running smoothly or I will donate it back to the club.

So if you want to help us out then there is a way to do so as well as getting something back in return.

I would be loathed to have to shut down this site but I just cannot continue to support it on my own.

Thank you.

Have you asked assistance from the MFC do they have a server or anything they can help with (I'm not tech savey) maybe memberships subscriptions could slightly increase and they can make a small amount? I don't post a lot but I read this forum everyday and love it would be a massive loss I took out the lifetime membership but maybe another option coukd be to charge all users a small fee per year once paid can log in??

We have a lot of members.

I really enjoy Demonland

It is the major reason I am still a MFC member.

Just hit my kick for an extra donation.

If we all put in $20 I am sure the problem will be fixed.

Lets get going.

What is currently Demonland's primary source of revenue? Is it ads? Donations?

My wallet. ;)

Donations and Subscriptions are probably the main source. Ads generate some revenue but we cannot rely on it.

Thank you to those who have and who will donate.

Fanbob should be able to explain the economies of scale to us with no keynsian knowledge.

Maybe you could come to an agreement with the club and advertise the MFC sponsors (New Balance/AHG etc.) on the site and in return the club gives say $50/100 a month.

Love your work Demonland, Nasher and all the others

Can I suggest you up the Lifetime Membership to a nice round $100, and then all previously subscribed members with Lifetime memberships could treat the $40 difference as a donation. Just a thought. When you think about it, $40 is really just a few cups of coffee, so shouldn't hurt too many.

Sorry PJ and others I paid $25.

My mistake you are correct

All good, I didn't mean that +1 as in one point to me.

Meant to be that I liked what you said and also donated the same amount as you. Trying to get the ball rolling! Someone plus two!

I took out lifetime membership the very first time this situation arose. I'd have no problem with that "lifetime" membership finishing at (say) the end of June next year and then everyone who wants to view the site having to pay a (say) $15 annual membership.

Without the details of costs I don't know if this would work but a regular annual income seems so much more sensible than a "once" off membership that provides nothing in future.

Also is there some way of limiting access to the site for "guests"?

Anyway, food for thought.

There is a way to limit the access to the site for guests but that can create it's own problems with new "blood" getting to the site and I don't want to exclude people because they can't afford it. I really don't want people to have to pay to access the site. The donations and subscriptions are just ways that the regulars can help out.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los
