Patton would be off my list now. Poor bugger. Two knee recos. Would still love Shiel and Treloar though. Can't see any bloke wanting to play for us though.

After today, I wouldn't mind doing a straight swap of lists with GWS!

Agree with the Draft as a solution... mark 2 on the rebuild.

AFL priority likely as a 2nd rounder

Frawley will go... plus Clark, Byrnes, Evans, Nicholson, Tapscott, Strauss, Terlich, Fitzpatrick

Picks 2,3,20, 21(Petrecca, Brayshaw, Maynard, Vickers-Willis) + Billy Stretch + Brett Eddy at pick 60. That's six plus Jetta.

Add Grimley from Hawks, Schroeder from Cats and Malcevski from the Swans.

Look at the Doggies and how they have simply gone to the draft and recruited well, that's what we need to do imo

Bring in

2. Petracca

3. Brayshaw

20. Ellis

38. Stretch

and develop them well, a young side of Viney, Tyson, Hogan, Petracca, Salem, Brayshaw, Ellis, Stretch, Mcdonald, Howe, Toumpas, Gawn doesn't look too bad at all

Yes but they have Boyd, Cooney, Gia, Morris and Griffen to provide leadership and class to help their younger players as they develop.

No easy way out for us big ruthless cull roll the sleeves up and get it right. 2 more years of minimal improvement and we are fooked

Brisbane the same. Unless we get a good 2 for 1 deal with one of our picks then I agree, not necessarily with the picks but the idea.

I remember watching McStay in his first game off HB and he just looked comfortable at the level. When are we going to get a player that looks ready to play at the level?

Our leaders have been poor haven't they.

Cross has been a great addition, then we have Jones, I think Vince adds a bit and sad to say one of our other leaders is a 21yo 30 something game player.

I agree, personally i'd much rather see a team full of young talented kids playing than some of the cloggers we have at the minute, Brayshaw, Petracca, Kent, Salem, Toumpas, Viney and Tyson is quite a good young midfield core, add Jones, Vince, Cross and Trengove and we have some depth

as an example a side of

Jetta Mcdonald Garland

Howe Dunn Toumpas

Salem Trengove Kent

Vince Hogan Petracca

JKH Dawes Gawn

Jamar Tyson N.jones

Brayshaw Viney Ellis

Barry

it's young, but it's got a totally different feel too it, and with Roos and Stone around some serious development could go into this young core group and this list could be handed over in good shape imo

Surely we are eligible for a priority? If we get smashed in the next 2 weeks, we have to be. So that's picks 2,3,4. Don't think we can attract any quality players from other teams, so we take; Petracca, Brayshaw, Wright. Wright because next year is Jamars last year

The PP should be removed entirely from the draft system.

That way there's no if's and but's about it. None of this 'at the discretion of the board' crap. Just be away with it for good, so both club and supporters know where the issue stands.

I don't understand...people seemed to find it reasonable when St Kilda applied for the priority pick...why are we so different? Didn't they play grand finals in 2009, 2010, whereas we haven't played in a final in 8 years.

Sorry, when exactly did St Kilda apply for a priority pick?

And who exactly finds that reasonable?

Get your head out of the clouds re: PPs.

It's a reality when we are awarded one, until then stop talking about it like it's a fait accompli.

Can we please get LJ back? I know he's a loose cannon but after yesterday I just want an excuse to go and watch Melbourne play next year

Yeah I get that and even Howey is not taking those big marks now, that was another reason to go.

Posted

Peter Ryan, 'if ever a team had a case for a priority pick, it is the Demons.' I tend to agree...if we don't get one...then the priority pick is effectively dead. Simple as that.

Posted

We should have pick 1 (PP), 3 and 4 (Frawley) this year.

Draft Petracca, Brayshaw and trade pick 4 and our 2nd rounder for another decent mid from the Bullies.

Bring in Stretch, Jurrah and trade out some other plodders for 2nd round picks and we may be able to turn over half of our best 22.

Haha playing in the backline... He's making some spectacular spoils but they don't excite me quite like his marks do

Pick 1 (PP), pick 3, pick 4 (Frawley), pick 7 (Watts and our 2nd rounder to Carlton), pick 14 and 29(Toumpas and Trengove to Port), Pick 11 (Grimes and pick 29 to Richmond).

Gives us picks 1 3 4 7 11 and 14.

With this Draft Petracca, Brayshaw pick 4 and 7 and Kent for Cameron. Pick 11 and 14 for 2 more mids.

This thread is irrelevant now. Kiss any chance any GWS player wanting to come to us. They would laugh in our face after yesterday effort.

Our best bet is delisted free agent now.. meh

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
