DEVIL OF A TIME - Match Preview and Team Selection

Michie had a bad week but if anyone needs time to find their feet at this level it's him. Disappointing omission.

With that team I'll be pleasantly surprised if it's not another mauling. I just hope they show a bit of guts.

I'm surprised to see him out, I thought he had a good nab challenge and was ok against the saints, why him?

lazy when oppo had the pill.

watched him stand at chb in 1st quarter as 3 wc players jogged past him when ball was at the other side of oval,

as soon as wc had a clear run,he was left flat footed as 2 unmarked wc players waxed the pill for an open goal.

did this twice in the first 20 minutes and coaching staff would have been ropeable, just lazy football, not skill error but pure laziness.

Why don't we play King instead of Peterson?

Has to be better. Its GWS this week and then we play Carlton who only has Warnock as a tall. Great opportunity to blood him at FF

Peterson? - is that a nickname or just a typo?

King is very raw and kids like him/salem/toumpas would benefit from a year at Casey

Hard to have selection options when last years 5th placed B&F can't get a game for Freo (when a number of their best 22 are out of the team). Sylvia not in the 25 squad and not on injured list.

Roos must really wonder about the state of the team he inherited and how on earth he can make players earn their spots. Only works with depth. He is at least 2 years away from having that.

At some level players know that the coach doesn't have many options so the chances of being dropped are small. Not good for self-motivation.

I think Roos doesn't care so much about stealing a win in the short term, but rather building for consistent wins in the long term.

Not that they're mutually exclusive, or that he won't coach to win on game day.

But I think it's underestimated how much he will use "dropping players" strategically, when they don't technically "deserve it" through poor performance, but so they can work on a deficiency against a lesser standard of opponent, and out of the spotlight.

Toumpas may not have been our worst, but I think he is one that has the most to gain from working on winning contested football at Casey.

And we have enough middling midfielders in the wings that all have their deficiencies and will likely have a similar impact, so it's not weakening the side.

Plus, the absence of McKenzie, Viney and Riley as contested ball winners has had as profound an effect on the side as missing Hogan, Clark & Dawes. No more of Tyson extracting it all on his own.

lol of course he is well regarded

hes an absiolute gun

Didnt you watch him play last season?

Are you being sarcastic?

I was being rhetorical.

A few on here had an issue with my opinion that Viney was ahead of all mids save for Vince, Tyson, Cross, and Jones. Once he has got his fitness up a little bit he is straight in - I think Roos thinks quite a bit of him...

Still injured?

All i had been hearing was he was training really strongly, trained with the main group, was probably right for seniors but wanted him to have a week in the 2's and boom he's not named at all lol

I reckon that's exactly where he sits at the moment and it's good to have him back in. Adds a bit more to the mids.

McKenzie is important to our side and we will benefit from his return.

We could have an hour discussion on that one chookrat and at the end of the hour neither one of us would have changed their mind.

So best I just say I don't agree.

Despite the rap on Kelly, I think our deal for pick 2 will prove to be a good one.

Roos has a history of dealing and it needs to continue to improve our list.

Some good drafting and trading over the next 2 seasons could really change things as other club's older better players retire.

Agreed. And, I'm sick of the dumb "experts" prattling on how Melb will regret having taken Tyson instead of Kelly at Pick 2. They fail to realise we got Tyson AND Salem for Pick 2!

As you say, Tyson, on his own, has the potential to be a star. Add to Salem to the equation, and suddenly our Pick 2 has the potential of being very special.

I'd like to re-visit the debate in 2 or 3 years, and see if anyone would seriously still take Kelly over Tyson & Salem.

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm
