Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

is it sad that i've kinda lost interest until we have someone above 6'0 to kick to?
I feel like we are a bit of a lambs to the slaughter situation.
i get the whole education and development thing, sure. But man i wanna win a game.
And to be perfectly honest, we won't until we have something that doesn't resemble a midget forward line.

Wasn't a chest mark

Was a reaching overhead mark because Bail's looping left foot kick let the ball hang in the air so to avoid to spoiler Petterd extended to reach for it.

First bite wasn't, second was. But anyway as you said, back on topic

Oh gee. Tongue in cheek comment gone awry.

Yes, he played well that game. But he did drop a chest mark, that, had he taken, would have won us the game.

If it was tongue in cheek you might want to make it a little more obvious.

As the master says though, back on topic. The bench is comprised by a fair amount of similar players, personally I'd go with Blease, Kent, Jones, and either JHK or Michie as the sub. Byrnes adds experience but little else, he's well past it. I'd be happy for JKH to be given another crack, he's had a good pre-season and obviously let the pressure of the game get to him but I'd keep him as the sub. Michie showed a bit v the saints in terms of aggression and desire for the pill but didn't do a whole lot.

With Gawn being ruled out we need Fitzy to play just to have a tall forward option. I'd like to see Pedo at the other end of the ground but it probably won't happen, I spose it should be said that he had the chances and if he kicked straight he would've been a hero. I can kinda picture a set up of Howe and Pedo leading out from the 50 with Fitzy in deep with smalls around him, but I'm probably just living in a fantasy world. They'd both have to work hard ALL DAY.

I hope Fitzy is 100% over his concussion if we play him. Otherwise, let him rest, recover and be firing for the Giants the week after. It's stupid to risk his mental and physical well-being for a meaningless game which we will lose anyway.

He is one of 6 players that played on Sat night who has played more than 100 games of AFL footy.

That stat has nothing to do with his contribution or output on game day against St Kilda last Saturday...

The point is, he doesn't do enough and he will have to go as soon as someone can step up and take the spot. JKH will be the man eventually.

The only reason Byrnes is getting games is because he hasn't been competing with anyone for that spot. JKH will eventually take it.

I understand the logic behind bringing him to our club in some regards.. I'm sure he's passed on all the knowledge he has of how things are done at Geelong etc. His job is done.

He will be gone by years end.

Actually you didn't make any point - all you said was WTF.

Maybe you should have read the link before being so quick to try and be a smarta$$ and then you would have got the point. But hey, that's Demonland...

Hamstring soreness. It says so in the article.

Clearly, I read the link, not quite sure about you.. although it could just be your comprehension skills if this exchange is anything to go by.

Perhaps you need not post at all; we could all just infer what your 'point' is telepathically.

I'd prefer Byrnes over Bail.

At least Byrnes can actually kick goals and hit targets more often than not.

It is going to really grieve me to say this but you are correct.

If Fitz and Tom McDonald don't play, then it would be the equivalent of West Coast having the following players out of their side:

Naitanui, Cox, Kennedy, Darling, LeCras, Sinclair, Mackenzie and Mitch Brown.

Puts into perspective what we're up against this weekend with our rotten luck.

Byrnes was useful last weekend.

I think there are a number who agree with me but don't want to admit it.

The dislike is palpable and unfair.

It's really not unfair. It's lifting expectations. Roos would absolutely know that he provides very little onfield but obviously the situation is difficult. Neeld picked him up for his potential to 'change' some of the training habits and culture at the MFC. To bring in some players who were brought up in 'elite' environments.

I understand where our list is. You do too. That's why it confuses me to hear you say he was useful.

Any small forward at AFL level should snag a couple of goals. That's a bare minimum. It's what Byrnes doesn't provide that resonates with so many supporters including myself.

He lacks vision and awareness, his disposal can be iffy. His forward pressure and tackling is non-existent, he has little urgency. He is selfish.

He wouldn't be getting a game with any top 8 side. He will play until our list develops further. Next year he is out.

I'd prefer Byrnes over Bail.

At least Byrnes can actually kick goals and hit targets more often than not.

And that's the sad predicament of where our list is still at. Edited by stevethemanjordan

So Rohan Bail had 7 i50s for the game (game high I believe) for no goal assists. I tried to track down involvement in scoring chains as i realise i50s to GA is not a perfect science.

I can't remember him creating a goal shot.

He is simply not skilled enough to be a HFF and create/convert enough oppurtunities.

Its like we need two Watts, one in the midfield and one at HFF to hit up our forwards

so no change for round 2. Wow Roos really backs the players in and doesn't panic does he?

Wow didn't see that coming. Would've flagged at least a couple of changes.

no change is always a good thing, IMO. Over the last few years, because we have had so many coming and going from the club, so many injuries and just the rotating of players in as a reaction to always getting flogged, we have had no chance at fielding a side that has familiarity and stability playing alongside each other. If we can deliver again the amount of disposals and inside 50s we have been getting, we have to be some sort of chance.. something 'out of the box' has to happen up forward though, I wonder what Roosy has in mind.. big week for Howe and Fitzy.

Can I just add that apart from all the doom and gloom myself and others have been spouting this week, I am genuinely excited about going to footy games again, which has not been the case the last few years. Tyson and Vince in particular are already two of my favourites to watch, and Watts in the middle is a delight.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
