Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Practice Match - Melbourne v Hawthorn @ Casey Fields

The AFL website summary says the difference was the efficiency of the Hawks forwards. Any comments from those who attended??? Did not mention inability to get the ball etc.

Dunn, Vince, Cross, Howe and Spencer named as our best players.

I left at 3/4 time.

Hawthorn's pressure and spreading was amazing. They were far more composed and their skills were brilliant.

Funnily enough we had a crack today, but were simply outclassed. We over possessed and the lack of forward targets really hurt.

It didn't feel we were as bad as the scoreboard suggested, but others may disagree. Roos and co now know exactly where we need to improve. It's onwards and upwards from here.

I need to add that we got the rough end of the umpiring. As usual.

Hawthorn have murdered everyone that has faced them this pre-season and we were certainly no exception.

Reality check for the playing group, but perhaps more so for the fans, especially those who are talking percentage against St Kilda.

if you put your head over the ball and get the footy first the umpire will always reward you.

Searching for (small) positives:

  • confidence here (DEMONLAND) and on the field will be badly bruised by this outing, but at least we weren’t playing for four points;
  • I wonder if our boys got ahead of themselves on the back of a couple of encouraging performances. If that’s the case, coming back to earth with a thud in a practice match won’t do any harm at all (except maybe for Grimes and Frawley);
  • we still have time to work on some of the deficiencies on display in today’s practice game (obviously there were a heap of them); and
  • no doubt Paul Roos will have some important data stored away for future reference.

Nearly 10000 at the game? Does that sound right to those who were there?

Thought before the game - who would get a game from Hawthorn from our team today. Backline - Frawley, maybe Dunn in from. Midfield - Consider Spencer v McEvoy, Vince, Tyson. Forward line - only Howe. And it showed.

The players fought it out in close for the first quarter when assisted with the wind. But the second quarter the Hawks just opened us up and from then on it was a procession. We just have too many players with glaring gaps in their game that will take a long time to fix.

Issues:
- Midfield spread was shot

- Backline didn't have confidence to attack and defend

- Forward line couldn't work out how to get to the right spots

- The handballs around the pack broke down due to pressure

- The kicking from half back broke down due to lack of work rate to run from all 22.

Positives

- Few and far between. Spencer, Dunn, Frawley, Howe probably beat their opponents. Vince plays at a higher speed than most of our mids. Tyson wasn't physically intimidated in close.

Not if you ask Jordie McKenzie after the Geelong game

Thanks master. Was the wind a factor? Executing our game plan is gonna be a problem in windy conditions.

Is anybody staying for the Casey vs Box Hill Hawks game?

I am shocked and appalled that the worst team of last year (minus a forward line) couldn't compete with the premiers of last year.

This is a disgrace and I call for a Royal Commission into this.

not even clark, dawes and hogan could account for that margin

sounds like the demons players gave up again. once a team gets a run on melbourne we go into our shell

wasn't at the game...interested to know if we stuck to our game plan the entire time or at any stage did we change to 'man on man' ?

when getting smashed it best to play man on man? or in our case...man on boy

Clarkson has been building his side for 8 or more years, Roos has had less than 5 months. Have some perspective people. This is a 2 win side playing the premiers. I have little doubt that we will be much improved this season, however we can not expect to be anywhere near hawthorns level this early into the process.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
