Had a good chat to Daniel Cross, even more impressed, talked about where he sees his role, helping Jack Watts becoming a midfielder, thinks Dom Tyson will be a gun if he can get a run at it without injury, proudly told me he had come 4th in 3k time trial in a tick over 9 minutes, said similar thing to Roos, if we can get everybody on the park, we are not that bad

One thing I missed from previous AGMs was not Schwab's bar charts but the fact that those present did not sing 'It's a Grand Old Flag' at the conclusion of the meeting. Some more players there might have been nice also.

Never been big on singing the song at functions like that. Reserve it for winning games and, in the case of AGMs, after winning premierships.

I got there late but echo the sentiments of others.

Roos spoke well and I feel we will here more of the term 2/20 and the 50% club. This is referring to our win loss ratio and percentage of last year and as a measure indicates we are a basket case with no hope. All speakers expressed surprise that the structure, enthusiasm and playing personnel did NOT reflect a 2/20 club. Vince, Cross and Tyson spoke, I believe, because they could offer their perception of us from outside. All re-iterated Roos point that once on board we are not the train wreck they perceived. Dawes said it last year and they agreed the training ethic and fitness levels are as good as anywhere and do not reflect our 2/20 status.

In post meeting conversations the club officials happy to chat all agree that this group want to learn, are desperate for success and will give us something with a great group of kids. I really hope we get of to a good start and that the missing 12,000 see a reason to return

Yeah but in the case of one or two of the reports it wasn't even the same event they were reporting about

I am not one bit concerned about not singing the song, I want my team to sing it most weekends of the footy season.

Had a chat with our CEO and got the feeling he is happy to settle in for the next few years.

Roos' comment about not knowing how quickly they can rebuild the confidence of the playing group are interesting. I don't think it's a particular shot at Neeld, I think it's more a reality that no matter why they were at 2 wins and 54% that it's a long road to build confidence to believe you can win games or even compete in games against top sides.

The counter is that each week we should have plenty of new guys - Cross, Vince, Michie, Tyson, Hogan, plenty of guys who weren't subjected to a prolonged period of failure - Viney, Toumpas, Terlich, Matt Jones, Kent and a couple of others who are practically recruits in Dawes and Clark. Add in the guys who could perform like Jones and Garland and you are starting to get the balance shift in the positive. Where hope comes in is that we need the strong performances to come before a fresh group get inflicted with negativity.

For those who attended what was the take on Bartlett? He's still very much in his honeymoon phase and I like that he seems practical and happy to take a backward step but at the end of the day he's our representative. And despite their best intentions it seems the old board didn't pay enough attention to what was happening in the core business of the footy department and show enough understanding of the issues at play with the CEO and the poor structure of the footy department.

You're right, the function used to be called the Commencement Dinner and was held at Crown. I note this year it's being held at the MCC dining room which I imagine is a cost cutting exercise and a sensible one too.

And a better exercise for a Club that started life as the MCC football Club and has just again strengthened ties! Crown is for wankers!

Roos and Jackson were most impressive and informative. Bartlett rather low key leaving the evening in most part to the other two.

Paul Roos came across as someone with maturity and a sense of humour. It's easy to see why the players apparently respect him so much.

The coaching team he has assembled is certainly far more mature and experienced than what we have been used to of recent times, and they were introduced by Roos with details of there backgrounds.

Many of them have worked with Roos in the past and know what they are expected to do, so, as Roos said, he doesn't have to start by coaching the coaches.

Brad Miller is of course one of the new boys and when introduced was given a hearty "welcome back" round of applause by the congregation.

And the crowd wasn't as large as previous years but still very decent. I had the feeling that Jackson and Roos were quite surprised.

Also good to see some current and former MCC committee members in attendance, as they should be!

Interesting also that Roos said he never understood why Miller had not been a one club player.

Hmm smelt to me of another great recruiting / list disaster but that is now ancient history.

The bloke hasn't put a foot wrong since arriving at the club. Usually by this time of year we've gone from one to debacle to another.

Relative to this must be the removal of the added burden that the players had placed on them during the last two years especially. We're all keen to see what a new coaching group and recruits can bring to the club but let's not forget what a clear mind, void of external pressures that were out of the playing groups control might translate into this year.

To be fair, Neeld had this "no BS" attitude, it's just that the players didn't like and/or respect him, which contributed to making him look like a total incompetent tool.

The only other person that contributed as much, if not more, was Neeld himself. But in Neeld we did have that "no BS" directive that you speak of.

Yeah but the approaches are worlds apart - Roos is no BS but also respects the players so it's more a cooperative no BS whereas Neeld was no BS but his approach was confrontational pitting himself against the playing group as a typical old-school taskmaster.

From what I've heard that's right. At Sydney, when Roos would talk about your performance he would always say the nice stuff - then send you to the next room where Lyon was who would give you a bit of a grilling.
