Courtney_Fish 183 Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 The "Who will we delist next week?" thread got me wondering, what became of Michael Newton?
InVINCEable 358 Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Got delisted in 2011 because of too many injuries.
The Third Eye 288 Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Suffered an ACL injury last year and while he's back playing, found it difficult to break into Norwood's premiership team.
Goodvibes 3,596 Posted October 26, 2013 Posted October 26, 2013 Got delisted in 2011 because of too many injuries. Yep, if it wasn't for those injuries . . . .
monoccular 17,815 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Got delisted in 2011 because of too many injuries. and more so because he wasn't an AFL standard player. Appeared to "lack heart for the contest".
Dee Fan 3,247 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 and more so because he wasn't an AFL standard player. Appeared to "lack heart for the contest". Another stelar recruiting selection. What a year Bate Dunn Juice.
jnrmac 20,419 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Another stelar recruiting selection. What a year Bate Dunn Juice. And we 'recruited' him three times....FMD
Little Goffy 15,093 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Possibly the only list management decision I'm really bitter about was keeping Newton on for an extra (seventh?) year, at the cost of picking up Dylan Grimes. It was a direct alternate. A clear demonstration of recruiters becoming trapped by their own bad decisions, unable to concede the loss. One of Neeld's credits is that he was prepared to make those tough calls, and to dump a whole lot of those 'mistakes'. Made a few errors of his own, recruiting-wise, it would have been interesting to see if he'd have retained the willpower to cut those losses as it became apparent.
Little Richard 6,265 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Last seen playing for Norwood. And he was dominant before the knee injury.
Young Dee 1,303 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Phew - I thought this was a bring back Newton thread. Sorry couldn't help myself
Bang Bang Bang 5,912 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 He did play one good quarter that time.
InVINCEable 358 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Phew - I thought this was a bring back Newton thread. Sorry couldn't help myself None of the dees players involved in that mark play any more. Sylvias hair
Deestroy All 14,266 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Surprised "^that guy" hasn't posted in here yet.
Supermercado 2,813 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 The oddest thing is that he averaged more than a goal a game despite seemingly having no idea.
Courtney_Fish 183 Posted October 27, 2013 Author Posted October 27, 2013 Phew - I thought this was a bring back Newton thread. Sorry couldn't help myself I reckon he would have got a game this year - even with an injury!
Moonshadow 17,678 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Hard to take you seriously with that avatar ^ , and with that suggestion
Roger Mellie 4,213 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 Surprised "^that guy" hasn't posted in here yet. Wont be long now
Satan 2,930 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 having newton on the list so long proved our brains trust weren't einsteins
RalphiusMaximus 6,112 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 I can kind of understand why they held on to him for so long. He had every physical attribute he needed to be a great player. It was only in the intangibles that he failed. You can see why they would have kept him around in the hope that things would click for him and he'd figure out how to put it all together.
Redbeard 500 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 He was the bane of my old man's existence. Would love when I travelled home and watched a game with him. He'd get so wild at Juice, nearly put a stubby through the telly many a time. Still makes me chuckle remembering him up at the screen screaming at him
Rhino Richards 1,467 Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 I am not sure why all the angst on Newton. He was pick 46 and taken young in the overall ordinary draft of 2004. At that end of the draft picks are always a punt. Whilst having the appearance of a good contested mark and a good kick for goal, he never had the aptitude or ethic to make it. Survived as a low cost option on our list with lack of forwards He didn't make it in the big time....so what. There have been many more at MFC (and far worse than Juice) If people want to rabbit on about bad selections they should focus on the wasting of first round picks in that year like Bate and Dunn.

Yep agree with most of this. Was somewhat cruelled by injuries both at Melbourne and of late Norwood ( ACL) Still, he played 25 games for 35 Goals as records show, which was a handy return for one so maligned on this forum.
