Dees cut recruiter Gary Burleigh

According to Jay Clark on twitter

He's one of 2 National recruiting officers who work under Jason Taylor.

Most interesting thing is the timing so close to the draft. Not sure what kind of contract he had etc but you'd think recruiters would work calendar year and you wouldn't let one go no matter how much you agreed with his ideas until after the draft.

odd timing if nothing else

probably nothing in it

Maybe timing makes sense as there are no more games to watch and much less players to interview and data to crunch. If you like a guys work rate but don't really rate his judgement then it could be the time to move him on.

Yeah, that data has been gathered, but Burleigh wouldn't be the one to make any real decisions from here on in.

By virtue of his involvement during such a poor period of drafting, I have had to question his ability.

Pretty hard to get any idea whatsoever from the outside, anyway.

I had no idea who he was prior to getting the flick.

Won't be missed.

I need to ask - if you dont know who he was , then how do you know he wont be missed ?

I think the timing is significant - I would be culling a recruiter after the PSD but at worst after the ND. His timing is worrying ?

Not sure why timing matters as if you find someone unsuitable to the job what would waiting achieve ?

sounds to me like PJ is trying to instill a culture where the entire staff knows you need to be pulling your weight or you are straight out. The timing of it is a bit of a statement on how serious he is. Just a guess of course.

I know it"s getting a bit late & I should defer to your 3394 posts but are you really sure he's Robinson Crusoe ?

Hope the Board & Coach are getting a say on the playing " staff " for example. Just a guess of course !

no I am not 'really sure' because I didn't say that. Pretty obvious that Roos and the board would be advising PJ as to who is and isn't doing their jobs properly at the club. Obvious enough not to say.

agree - my only conclusion is that it doesnt matter that he goes now - we are better off without him and right now !

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
