Great Day for the Red and the Blue

Congratulations to West Perth who have won the 2013 WAFL Premiership winning 20 11 131 to East Perth 12 10 82. West Perth kicked 7. 4 to 1. 2 in the last quarter to romp home after a hard fought 3 quarters where the lead changed numerous times. Fantastic to hear the Grand Old Flag ring out at Subiaco Oval and to see the Red & Blue ribbons attached to the Premiership Cup.

I see Cale Morton only had 15 disposals?

Im still very surprised the Eagles havent delisted him yet. For a bloke fighting for his career his WAFL form has been a bit poor this year. Only got games for West Coast due to injuries.

Paul Johnson was given best on the ground last week in the Preliminary Final. I believe he was also runner up in the Sandover Medal. Could never quite take the next step, although injuries didn't help.

If a heart string was an injury. Certainly one of the better skilled ruckman of recent years. Just couldn't do any of the physical stuff - marks, hitouts, hard ball gets.

I was there great win we went in as underdogs due to East Perth getting some seasoned Meth Coast players back and hitting some really good form late in the season. Hutchings won the Simpson for BOG, thought Shane Nelson was stiff not to get it had a really good game and certainly worth a look as a rookie. The game was very physical and the Cardies (I still refer to them as this) had the more run and were ferocious at the contest.

Morton as expected was like a rabbit in the headlights with a very physical game and whilst Johnson and Lycett won most of the tap outs Kuenan did enough to make sure there was no easy clearances.

Let me say nothing better than singing "Grand Old Flag" at the final siren of a Grand Final.

It was a great day and result.

I have a sore voice from singing "Its a Grand Old Flag" and screaming for the Blue and Red.

Seeing a sea of Blue and Red was magical.

East Perth are still upset we recruited Polly Farmer as captain coach to win the 1969 and 1971 Grand Finals.

This game was great revenge for the 2002 Grand final loss to East Perth when they had a very unfair advantage as the WCE WAFL Reserve Team.

Now it time to rebuild the MFC to win Premierships as well.

A professional outing by Red & Blue at AAMI Stadium yesterday. 8.2 v 1.1 first quarter finished the game then & there. The 'Legs finished 4 games clear on top of the ladder & their first quarter in this Second Semi Final should have frightened the remainder of the competition. West or North in the GF in 2 weeks time. Beaten West 11 of past 12 meetings. Beat North 100 v 49 in Round 23. I wouldn't dare "count my chickens" so I'll leave it to the ABC commentators likening Norwood's dominance to Centrals' of the last decade. Now if only Roosy could get my beloved Melbourne to those heights...

Two thoughts. Nathan Bassett is a brilliant coach & there's this young player Dumont running around...

When I shifted to Perth in 1976 I had to decide who to follow in the WAFL. The team that wore Red and Blue was West Perth and the team called the Demons was Perth. Perth wearing Essendon colours was a bit strange but I eventually opted for them as my chosen team. I did have immediate success with a couple of premierships in 76 and 78. BUT if you reckon Melbourne Demons have been performing badly then take a look at poor old Perth, cellar dwellers for decades. However, I must admit they did show some improvement this season where they became competitive. This competiveness is the minimum requirement of Melbourne for next season. We must NOT be seen as a pushover ever again. Well done West Perth and Norwood.

Juice is returning after an ACL injury in 2012. In reserves vying for a spot in a very strong side.

Nathan Bassett has an annual "out" clause in his NFC contract to accept an AFL position. It is the yearly fear of every Norwood fan. There is a rumour on the NFC forum that he is going to North Melbourne in 2014. We can only wait & see.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
