That leaves 16 13 listed players unselected and they come with a variety of pedigrees and experience - 1st round draft picks, later picks, a whole bunch of RD picks and a couple of trades. Only 3 one neophytes and one veteran - 12 11 players who should be in their best years:

  • Byrnes, McKenzie, Dunn, Blease, Strauss, Pedersen, Magner, Nicholson, Evans, Barry, Tapscott, Jetta, Spencer, Taggert, Bail, Stark

It would be no surprise if half of them are gone at the end of 2014 but equally it would be a big disappointment if Roos and co can't find at least 4 quality role players from that group to add to the above set.

Or 20% gone within a day ...

FF: Howe Clark Bleese

Not a bad side IMO. A vast improvement on last round this year, and with a coach who knows what he is doing for a change, who knows what might happen.

Agreed - we really need to get some confidence and momentum.

If its a team like the Saints its a must win but if its a good team we must stay close and never drop our heads.

Agree. I was sooo gutted after PA last year.

If I hear "we're training really well" during off season, I think I'll spew....

Kobe drools on himself and you want me to be inspired by that?

5 championship rings in the past 5 years should inspire you, drool and all. Considering we haven't won a Premeriship (championship equivalent) in almost 50 years.

15 years?

And you can win titles and still be made fun of in gifs apparently...

That was my point.

You picked the wrong gif.

mannnn you are totally doing this wrong!

You are going too deep on this, way too deep. Pull back brother, come back to me.

The Kobe reflection gif isn't a metaphor for us or our future seasons, it's what comes up in google when i type into the image search:

'thumping chest gif'.

I was making a point that it was an important game for us and we had to nail it, so wanted a "pumped gif" to reflect that. Kobe looked good, but it could have been bloody OJ Simpson for all i care, as all i wanted was someone "pumped up" to reflect me being "pumped up" for round 1.

But thanks for ruining my parade, please PM me your address. Just need to send you a bill for water damaged parade floats etc.

I'm about to post a gif to represent how i feel about this whole affair and link it into the whole "rain on my parade" joke thing i now have going, but before you look to deeply into it i just wish to inform you that i found it by searching:

'sad guy in rain gif'

And it's not a metaphor for the MFC or anything, it's just a gif to put in there to put a quirky/light spin on it. Oh and i'm not sad either, so don't look into that too deeply.

So yes, thanks for the gif analysis chat, look forward to receiving your bill.

    GOLDIE'S METTLE by Meggs

On a perfect night for football at the home of the Redlegs, Norwood Oval, it was the visiting underdogs Melbourne who led all night and hung on to prevail in a 2-point nail-biter. In the previous round St Kilda had made it a tough physical game to help restrict Adelaide from scoring and so Mick Stinear set a similar strategy for his team. To win it would require every player to do their bit on the field plus a little bit of luck.  Fifty game milestoner Sinead Goldrick epitomised

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play
