Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Hawthorn President angry at the Demons getting hand-outs?!

Just read this article and got really bloody mad!

Here is the link: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/hawthorn-president-andrew-newbold-angry-at-afl-plans-to-give-melbourne-cash-priority-pick/story-fni5f91a-1226713988648

Does the Hawthorn President realize that the Demons are currently an impediment on the entire AFL competition (as mentioned by our CEO Peter Jackson) and that we NEED the AFL extra funding and the priority pick to actually get better?! Hawthorn received priority picks and that helped them win the 2008 Flag! They are now looking at winning the Premiership this year!

I get the feeling that Hawthorn are jealous that the Demons are getting help. I think that is a disgrace and totally hypocritical on their behalf! We don't have 60,000+ members like the Hawks do! We need all the help we can get to turn things around! Getting Paul Roos as a coach is a massive boost...but in the end it will be player talent and hard work that will help make the Demons rise up the ladder!

Equalization is all about helping the poorer and worse performing teams to actually improve and have an equal chance of winning the premiership. A strong and successful Melbourne Demons will be good for the entire AFL competition!

The jealous hypocrites at Hawthorn can shut up!

Hey Newbold. Shut it.

We all have to look at the sewerage jumper your club wears each year.

You have sold a large slab of your soul to Tasmania in order to survive.

I still find your membership number questionable, but i lose no sleep. But i do wish your supporters would stop mentioning the merger to me.

I didn't vote for it.

By all means hate us. Because i F@&$ing feel the same way to you.

Eff him, let's forget about them and look after number one for once.

We have to get on the front foot and demand it, none of this begging hat in hand stuff.

Seems to be concerted effort to stop us from getting a PP is building up steam. Quite frankly if we get it then yippee, but if we don't then I am sure we will survive. I just wonder what the effect of the fuss that the other clubs and outstanding journo's like Damien Barrett will have on the Independent Commissions whose scope is to look at the issue from a holistic approach and not from a club centric view.

Two points about the article

The title when looked at in isolation is good news for us.

"Hawthorn president Andrew Newbold angry at AFL plans to give Melbourne cash, priority pick"

Secondly Newbold is quoted as saying "In the context of equalisation, I reckon it puts everything up for grabs," " "Why should Hawthorn be tipping money in when the AFL are underwriting Melbourne and these anomalies continue to exist?" Seems to me the point of equalisation is to equalise clubs which means that strong clubs like Hawthorn need to step up to ensure that the competition remains strong. That may mean putting there hands in their pockets and assisting the weaker clubs like us.

P.s by outstanding journo I mean Tool of the Highest Order

They are also heavily favoured by the free agency rules with a number of players leaving their clubs to try and win a flag, i.e. Lake, Young, Gibson(not free agent but similar situation).

Free agency was thought to give the free agents a chance at a pot of $s before retiring (thus helping (?) the lower clubs. Instead the free agents from poorer clubs are chasing the top clubs for a chance at a premiership (for minimal $s).

So it goes.

IMO, MFC may well get a priority pick, but on the condition it is on traded (and AFL sanctions the trade).

You heard it here first. ^_^

...are, no I wrote something along the same lines a few days back and I'm pretty sure 'rpfc' mentioned the idea of an AFL sanctioned trade a while back.

Going by Andrew D's comments on SEN I don't think we will be getting much draft help at all. He reports that the 17 other clubs say NO and AD went on to talk about the importance getting the management structure right and the rest follows it seems. Yes this important but don't tell me we have a bunch of elite midfielders playing dead because the management structures weren't set up right. We need on field help and yes we have made a mess of things but we have now moved all the incompetence on and have people from top to bottom who hopefully have some idea of running a professional organisation.

I would like to know what equalisation looks like. The club presidents just back from their US study seem to be ruling out draft assistance and money. What else is there? Free agency is working the other way to unequalise the competition. Maybe their idea of equalisation is just more condolences that things will get better, while they raid our best kids every trade period.

cant help but get the feeling there was some understanding between PR and AD. Only time will tell I suppose.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
