Why would he go in the draft when he can sign with whoever he wants as a delisted free agent ?

Don't think that will work as MFC fairly committeed to taking Cross in PSD

What I was trying to say is that TA won't nominate for PSD because he hasn't got MFC as his preferred destination. A deal will have to be done with GWS. FYI we are offering our first 2nd round pick and a player. Enough of the alphabet!

So Daisy is a medical away from joining Carlton. Will Carlton give their first pick for him ? Will this be a stand off between two arrogant f##ks and hold up the Adams trade. How much do we think Daisy was getting, surely we can offer more.

Daisy's a RFA.

No picks needed, just cash, which Carlton seem to have enough of.

And your customer thinks the player is Spencer?

Or are you just assuming that part? I don't think GWS would have too much trouble picking up a ruck equal to Spencer in another way. Eg. Third round pick for Hampson

Nail on the head, Tim.

You and I think very similarly about quite a few things Adam.

What sold it for me was when I saw Clisby needing to direct howe during the last quarter against the dogs (first time). Clisby was pointing out the bleeding obvious - a dogs player free at half foward. Howe had seen him - I was watching him - so it took a very inexperienced teammate to tell him to do the obvious.

I love his marks - I love the thrill - but he is not competitive, not switched on and is lazy. If character counts, it counts for all.

Simply cannot agree with this.

I reckon every club in the competition would be interested in Howe.

GOOD! I want them interested.

Tell me Ron, when have you ever seen Howe burst away from a pack, win the footy in a contest or run to help out a teammate? Does he provide a physical presence?

I'm happy to be proven wrong - but bring the proof. He has a load of potential and takes a great grab. I'd trade him for a two-way running, ball winning mid.

Agree Tim. He is great on the highlights reels but does not get enough of the ball at ground level. And does not enough when he does not have it.

Exactly. I hope there are still 17 other clubs lining up for his services. See what we can get for him. I just wonder if his ordinary performances during the second half of this season have damaged his stocks.

He certainly doesn't have a physical presence. In fact, clubs worked him out this year. It's that lack of physicality that makes it easy for opposition players to keep him quiet. They took to blocking his run at the ball in the second half of the season and he struggled as a result. This led to low confidence levels, but combine this with his ordinary work rate around the ground and it wasn't pretty.

A swap for 'a two-way running, ball winning mid' is no brainer, IMO.

But what is Howe? Do you think Fitzpatrick would have close to Howe's value? I rate Howe's skill set I just dont thinks it will be the difference. I think if you're not a pure mid or a key tall then in mind your surplus and worth shopping to fix our third world midfield.

I dont think it will happen but I wouldn't discount it either.

Let me just put this out there...

The MFC and Roos have to think laterally and we know that Freo's big centre square mids have impacted AFL footy, which is one of the reasons Roos wants to try Watts as a mid (not centre square, but who knows), so could Howe make it as a 190cm mid ? Mundy started as a half back flanker, Fyfe started as a forward not dissimilar to Howe, both are about the same height as Howe and we know Howe has skill, courage and endurance.

Naturally there will be plenty that scoff at the idea, but I'd be interested to see Howe try out as a midfielder.

I think that's his position 'Ben'.

...for those concerned about his defensive efforts, that can be fixed and will be with the new coach. I think he lost his way in the 2nd half of the season and there are a lot of reasons for it.

although this is true, it is true with all, most likely howe was instructed to play the loose man and someone like terlich got sucked into the contest as he often does. im sure you saw him take countless intercept marks as well, and he often positioned himself behind the ball in order to do so.

that being said, sometimes he is soft on the chase and is often found hanging off his opponent, but at other times he is very quick on the chase and often pressures to smother well also.

Howe is a required player, he is the only player that gets our pictures in the paper for positive reasons and it might be a little bit over the top but partially why some people keep memberships or get them for that matter.Bloody ridiculous to suggest a trade, in fact it is down right stupid.

Taylor adams will be a good player, but i think there are others i would be looking at first, players like dom tyson who would be easier to get across and have just as much potential,

if we can come out of a trade period having secured cross, shaw and tyson i will be very very happy. plus maybe one more older mid

Howe's real value is his marketing value, and it's HUGE, particularly with kids. His value as a contributing player is below average. Trading him is a dilemma therefore. If his ridiculous physical talent can be better directed toward being a consistent competitive presence (Roos/Stone), his value goes through the roof, but at the moment he remains a frustration, and tradable. Maybe.

Well, this was when we had two loose men already. This one example might have also shown that the backline had no organiser at the time as well. That said, I saw it several times over the game as well.

AS for being stupid, I'd suggest that you do not understand our problem. The problem is that we do not have a midfield. Now Howe is not a midfielder. He is not that competitive, not aggressive, not physical and not defensive. You could try and coach some of those things, or, recruit someone who already has the base laid and just needs time.

Now, I'm relatively confident that you've not measured his psych state nor looked at his profile. You'd have no idea about whether the raw materials are there. I've watched him behave; he's not shown them on field. If they are not on the tests and not on the field, odds are that the ingredients are not there. You cut your lossses.

So to say it is stupid fails to understand the problem or provide a solution. And if you reckon we should keep someone because he gets in the papers, then you be banging down the door to try and get dustin martin then.

well i understand that the midfield is our problem, but if you are trading howe for a midfielder who is still only young and is going to be 4-5 years away from being at his peak then I doubt you want the problem addressed either.

dustin martin is a much better player than adams, so if that is the question i would want him ahead of adams.

i am not saying adams wouldnt be a handy player to take, i just doubt that trading jeremy howe is in the best interest of the football club, nor do i think that the problems with howe are as bad as you are suggesting and i also do feel that trading howe is a stupid idea,

the whole point is adams is a player which is in the similar age group to our midfielders already, the area which we are lacking is 24-27ear old mids who are going to give 5-6 years at the club and help out the younger players develop.

The clear solution is to bring in experienced midfielders players in the 24-27 bracket who will be able to provide 5-7 years and leadership throughout the midfield. although adams is going to be a good player, he will be another young talent and will not fix our midfield problem or our lack of leadership

EDIT: im not even that much of a howe fan, it just seems like a stupid idea.

nathan jones, james frawley also have trade currency lets trade one of them for taylor adams if they dont accept howe

You're just making stuff up now. A second rounder and Spencer is what we're offering? GWS would just laugh at that. We will need to do far, far more than that to get close, not to mention convincing Adams to play for us.

Midfielders going into their third year (Adams) can compete straight away. It's not about being elite or at their peak instantly, but generally midfielders take less time than other types of players, once they have bulk and are up with the speed of the game. If Adams continues at his current trajectory, he'll be an important contributor in 2014. It will not take him another four to five years to impact games the way we'd want him to.

And to the [censored] that says I don't know anything, maybe just maybe you haven't read all my posts but I care little. Opinions are like a-holes, everyone has one!

That'd be me champ, and just because a few of these turkeys are lapping your guesses up, doesn't mean that your words count for diddly squat.

Happy for you to highlight the info you have provided that has eventuated. But I reckon you might struggle there. You're nothing more than an attention seeker... In fact you remind me of someone else on here... gee, who might that be?

I would trade Howe on the premise that I reckon he is one player that we could actually get more for than he is actually worth and we have greater needs.

Having said that it's unlikely to happen this year.

Agree with the marketing perspective.

Howe could be a "marquee player" a la Capper, up there and a forward set up of Cameron, Buddy and Howe would be formidable. On the other hand we would want something very good in return. Adams is probably a win/win IMO. If Buddy doesn't go, then we maybe Howe's value goes even higher.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
