Posted on another thread but suitable here...

Eade's coaching stats:

Took the Swans to 5 Finals series in 7 Years including 1 GF (54% winning record)

Took the Dogs to 4 Finals series in 7 Years including 3 Prelims (55% winning record)

His first year at the dogs they just missed the finals (9th) after less thsn 5 wins in the previous two years.

I kind of like the fact he hasn't won a flag, he'll have the burning hunger we need!!

Good point!

I just want the best coach for us (that is probably Roos but no one can tell the future)

Who did Roos take over the Sydney job from ??? Wasn't most of that list already well on the way to success ? I would rather Eade take over our (unsuccessful) list.and mould it..If we can get a Coach with Eade's ability , why the hell are some of us being negative and making comments like, "he hasn't won a flag" etc,. We are looking for a top coach aren't we ? and Eade appears to fit that bill, Roos wil go to Brisbane..We don't have too many Premiership coaches available do we ? (Choco and Roos the only two) ...

I like this thought. We should get Eade for a few years and then, if he hasn't won us a premiership, we replace him with Paul Roos. That strategy has worked well before.

As a matter of interest, does Roos have any current hands on experience other than working in the media? If not, I just wonder whether Williams and Eade are more current with their understanding of the latest in coaching (ie, fitness, gameplan, sports science, player management, etc) than Roos and whether that makes them better candidates.

One of the articles on news.com.au is now saying a Melbourne coaching combo of Eade and Voss could be an outcome. If we could have Voss come in to look after the midfield instead of Royal that would be a fantastic step.

I would then find it hilarious if Brisbane was to appoint a combination of Senior Coach + Mark Neeld as a Senior Assistant. Moloney and Martin would undoubtedly be pretty unhappy if that happened.

Interesting. I've been hoping we'd land Choco and, say, Junior - but we you say here is compelling.

I've got a mate who played under Eade at the Bulldogs, and he reckons he'd be great for us.

I'd be happy with Eade, particularly if we get someone like Adam Simpson as part of the coaching package.

I know I am not in position to judge who should be our next coach. But for what its worth I have nothing against what Neil Craig is doing right now with the cattle he has at his disposal. But Rodney Eade does deserve careful consideration. Below I have jotted down some thoughts on his time at the Swans.

Fact: Rodney Eade coached the Sydney Swans from 1996 to the middle of 2002.

Question: Was he a good coach that developed a list that Roos then took on to a Premiership, or was he a mediocre coach that couldn’t get the best out of a very good list while Roos could?

Facts: When the Swans won the flag under Paul Roos in 2005, of the 22 players that ran out that day, 12 of them were brought into the club during Eade’s tenure as senior coach. (Two players were on the list before Eade took control namely, Leo Barry and Michael O’Loughlin). The twelve players that came into the club during Eade’s tenure and ultimately tasted premiership success were, Barry Hall, Brett Kirk, Adam Goodes, Ryan O’Keefe, Jude Bolton, Amon Buchanan, Taghg Kennelly, Ben Mathews, Luke Ablett, Jarrad Crouch, Paul Williams and Nic Fosdike.

Conclusion: Unquestionably the Swan’s recruiting during Eade’s period was very, very good. But some credit must go to Eade for shaping the recruitment policies and direction that led to such a successful outcome. (Just as when recruiting at a club has been consistently poor the coach tends to get the blamed). A second consideration in judging Eade’s time at the Swans is the fact that in his first season he took the Swans to their first Grand Final appearance since 1945.

Article on the AFL website even suggests maintaining Neil Craig as senior coach for 2014 (as he has 1 year left on his contract) and having Adam Simpson or Scotty Burns come in as assistant to then take over.

"That will be up to the club. I am contracted until the end of next year, but if there is not a position there - a worthwhile position - I am sure we will come to an arrangement," Craig said.

Pretty doubtful that Mark Neeld will ever coach AFL again isn't it?

I wouldn't say that. There's been reports that one of the Scott boys, and Mick Malthouse are seriously interested in adding him to their Assistant Coaching group. He may not be head coach material, but as an assistant coach he has a fantastic reputation.

Dean Bailey got another job very quickly after we kicked him to the curb too, so I'd expect the same to happen for Neeld.

The interest in Neeld was reported in the Herald Sun a couple of weeks ago: http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/north-melboune-coach-brad-scott-could-lure-former-dees-coach-mark-neeld/story-fni5f986-1226690613959

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
