Watson can plead all he likes for a quick outcome, but it will fall on deaf ears. ASADA don't work to a time frame. They will release the information when they are absolutely certain that they have crossed all the T's and dotted all the I's and every box has been ticked. The truth is they are just as much under he gun as Essendon in this situation and know they can't stuff this up. When they do issue any show cause notices they will be very strong.

Didn't the new boss of the AFL say he had a plan in place if Essendon were handed notices? What type of plan could you possibly have for this situation?

I suspect the plan would be something along the lines of giving them room to draft additional players from lower leagues in a specially arranged draft and a major escalation in their salary cap should they be obliged to continue paying those rubbed out as they have promised to do.

This is not going to happen soon though. After infraction notices are issued it will end up in the courts which will be the biggest longest and most expensive court case in Australian sporting history.this could take years and could by itself break Essendon and severely wound the AFL and the Game. As much as I can't stand Essendon and their smuggness, no one should take joy in this. The game will be very much worse off because of it.

I see in the budget last night that ASADA is having it's number reduced.

I haven't commented too much on this whole topic as it's a very complex issue and I feel that we don't have the full picture.

I'd have to say, however, that making special salary cap/drafting rules to look after a team who was found to have systematically rorted the system, while also endangering the well-being and eligibility of its own players, would sit very uneasily with me.

This is proper. They never should have entertained any notion of coziness.

WADA/ASADA must be and seen to be independent. Typical of the AFL to think it could be "different"

jail is where this should end. there has been mass gross negligence here.

I find it odd that it mentions WC believe the punishments already given would outweigh anything they can dish out.. stiff sh it they still need to be investigated by WC.

So let me get his right. Worksafe Vic has only 'recently' begun its investigation (2yrs after the alleged breaches) due to the 'request of another authority' - presumably ASADA.

What a crock of shiite. Why the different treatment to EVERY other business in the State of Victoria?? Do you think after 2 yrs that some of the evidence may have gone cold or forgotten or disappeared?

Were they not aware of the admitted activities, the Ziggy report etc. Did they choose to ignore it until requested? This is worthy of a Royal Commission in itself.

I maintain that if I had done what Ess have done in my own business I would be heading to the big house. The Directors of Essendon should be in huge trouble here. I can't believe Worksafe have behaved this way and am very keen to see its determination, public comment and reasoning on the issue.

An unsafe scaffold on a workplace can cost $50k in fines. These guys will should be bankrupted.

mac...you have to give Worksafe a bit of slack. They can only investigate when there is evidence of an unsafe workplace.

An unsafe scaffold is obvious. Suspected drug use is not.

In all likelihood that evidence has not been available. They need proof of the use of illegal drugs.

What is interesting is that NOW they are acting....ergo they have been provided with proof of some sort to warrant an investigation.

How Little they learnt in the end

Just out of curiosity what sort of punishments could we expect for the club, the players will recieve infraction notices but how bad will this get for the club and hird and co?
