Inside Football: Watts & pick 2 for David Swallow - prelim discussions

I would be exploring these trades without a coach.

You don't (or can't) pull the trigger just yet but this is what we should be doing.

We have some assets and we need to get solid, hard working mids.

These are discussions I would be having with clubs.

If the club could trade in two quality midfielders, like Sloane and Swallow for Pick 2 (Pick 3 with a PP) and Watts + the exchange of later picks or additional mid-range players I certainly wouldn't be complaining.

It would also make me feel at ease with the selection of Boyd if the club is to obtain a priorty pick (PP).

If could get I deal like this I will be rapt. These guys are still young but over growing pains. We can't afford to develop midfielders fron scratch at the moment no matter how highly rated in the draft. Viney and Toumpas still have a long way to go. This is the proverbial bird in the hand rather than two in the bush.

This is why I like a mini draft concession. Two picks to off trade for 2 to 3 players.

Mini draft pick one for Swallow

Mini draft pick two for Adams

2013 draft pick 2 for Sloane and a down graded draft pick. (Later first round pick)

Immediately our midfield is fixed with an eye on the future.

Swallow, Adams, Sloane, Jones, Viney, Trengove, Toumpass, Grimes, McKenzie (tagger), Kent. That's 10 midfielders rotating through the midfield that will only get stronger in years to come as they mature and develop.

This is absolutely correct, it's the job of the recruiting team to work out what deals are possible, what they'd cost and get the opinion of the coaches, Todd viney and co would be wanting to know exactly what is on the table and exactly what we'd get for anyone we might put on the table.

i wonder if s straight swap of Jack Watts for David Swallow is a real possibility

It's difficult to say, i'm sure GC would like to keep him but i think everyone knew that the expansion teams were never going to be able to hold on to all of that talent, Watts would appeal to them, so i suppose the issue is if they rate Watts at the same level as Swallow, don't think there would be any real issue from our end.

I would do Watts for Swallow in a heartbeat.

Suppose Watts wants to go to Fremantle, though. What would we want back in that trade?

Hard to know his value, thoughts on Suban? he seems to get plenty of the pill

I really don't understand why everyone wants to trade Watts........He has had a pretty good season and will just keep getting better as he matures.......

I think we need a midfield but not at the expense of players who imo will keep getting better......

Watts in a good side would be icing on the cake.....

Trading is a bit over rated.......IMO

I don't necessarily want to trade him, but I get the feeling he wants out. If the right deal comes along that can improve our midfield then I won't have any issues with him going. I guess we'll see in a few weeks.

To be honest, Freo is the team that I know least about. I could name a best 22 for every team in the league, but I'm not sure I could even name 15 Freo players.... never really watch them/read about them at all.

The issue is diabetes.

If all we have is icing and no cake then we will get diabetes.

But if they want Pick 2...

I'm not sure how the trade rule works. If Prestia re-signed this season, can the GCS trade him in the same year? Would love Prestia. More than Swallow. I'd do pick 2 for Prestia every day of the week. The new, faster Brad Sewell. If we could get Swallow for Watts and we got Prestia for pick 2, we'd do that deal. I am inclined to keep Watts though. I think he could offer us something special.

A mini draft this year would not include the same calibre players as recent years unfortunately.

This article has to be baseless. No trades will go ahead without a decision on the coach.

Living in absolute fantasy land if you think the AFL would give us mini draft picks to trade!

No idea why people keep mentioning it. Especially since no kids have even nominated for a potential mini draft nor would the afl even be half capable of organizing the admin behind it this time of the year. Forget about it people.

Alot of people suggest minidraft but they all seem to be forgetting one thing. Players need to nominate for it. Past 2 years this was done early in the season. I highly doubt the AFL would be able to manage the administration behind trying to take nominations this time of the year.

I'm sure if we ate only cake we'd get diabetes too. It has a high sugar content.

The point is that diabetes is bad.

And we shouldn't...recruit...diabetes...

I feel like we hopped off the train to Pointsville.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
