Last week:

Jack Viney (in a losing team) 9 kicks 13 handballs 22 disposals 4 marks 2 tackles

Zac Williams (off a hbf) 11 kicks 10 handballs 21 disposals 5 marks 3 tackles

It must have been a close thing but Jack's due ...

This week:

Jack Viney (again in a losing team) 7 kicks 17 handballs 24 disposals 2 marks 1 tackle

... in a game where G Ablett Jr had only 19 touches.

Is there anyone else in the running?

Haven't the AFL made the Rising Star the sole Provence of GWS and the Suns.

Probably his best opportunity to get the nomination as most of the other media fancies have already been nominated

I have never had that much confidence in the whole nomination criteria since jordie mckenzie failed to get a nomination when he clearly had the opportunity in several games

Jordie,s top 3 in tackles for the year meant very little

If GWS get flogged then he will probably get it, no other debutants put their hands up. If Kent kicked more accurately he would've been a chance.

Only other one in the running is probably Tom Young with the Doggies, had a pretty good game in a winning side.

It's hard to notice someone who is borrowed deep in the packs getting the ball out to our non existent mids.

Not all efforts are apparent on television. Look harder.

As FIG JAM (the now Collingwood Coach) once commented "its all about the team!"

These type of awards IMO are very subjective and open to political pressure.

Therefore the only award worth anything is the Premiership Cup/Flag.

i can see Kent becoming a huge steal out of last years draft, our recruiters really got it right, even clisby has been impressive, the older recruits are abit of a worry but i reckon the coach was probably pushing that.

I just love the confidence of VIney - most people like Watts take a while to find it but this kid had it before he came out of the whom.

Kent was also very impressive and I think may pass Blease soon (I just wonder what his defensive work is like - does lay a few tackles)

I can see Kent becoming similar to a Dayne Beams. Once he gets a tank he needs to work on picking up cheap possies as well as winning his own ball and he will kick some long goals on his left.

He is a bit of a tough one - I don't really think he is designed to be a small forward but I also don't really think he is suited to be a mid. Looks to be another Blease (a burst mid who rests up forward?).

He could possibly develop as an outside mid (hopefully) - we are really running out of spots in the back and forward.

I think he has abit of boomer harvey about him, it's a big call but he has the zip and class

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals.
