AFL Endorsed Ticket or Stockdale Ticket?

It seems that Alan Stockdale's fears over the governance issues, with Jackson choosing his future bosses in conjunction with new Directors George Freeman and Glen Bartlett, and the AFL Executive, have led him to be convinced that an independent ticket is required with him as President - Former state treasurer Alan Stockdale has revealed his plan to save Melbourne

Stockdale has unveiled his plan to gauge the feelings of Dees supporters toward his proposed ticket - well, we have an obligation as the foremost fan community of this club to let our feelings be known.

The Road To October

The AFL will install who they want with the help of Freeman and Bartlett through the medium of Jackson on an interim basis in the next few weeks.

Where we come into a massive impasse is if Stockdale is not on that ticket and decides that indiscretion is the better part of valour with a rival ticket at what the AFL would have assumed would be a fait accompli of an EGM with a unity Board with their approval.

Whether this expectation is hubris on the part of the AFL is irrelevant - Stockdale may challenge.

This poll asks a very simple question and should reflect the view of the body of people Stockdale hopes to capture now or in October.

rpfc's view:

What a waste of talent. That is how I see the few of have followed Stockdale down a road that we lead to either NOTHING or a costly ticket in October that the AFL do not want to see and that the future of the club could do without.

I hope the AFL get on the phone to each one of his backers and asks them for their insights into a UNITY Board.

given that we really dont know the first ticket....its a tad premature.

AFL endorsed ticket. That way we can blame them if things go "[censored] up"

the afl ticket will be one of the conditions of the financial and draft support i imagine

We need AFL money right now so it is not the time to rock the boat.

Shut it Stockers...Sit quietly and observe everything. We will get our club back, but only after it has been completely overhauled.

You were there before Stockers..That became a mess if my memory is correct.

I want a well run ruthless MFC to enjoy

This is for Stockdale's benefit - he wants to know our thoughts.

I am happy to oblige.

But in all fairness ( and your poll doesnt lean that way Im afraid..lol ) there may well be some who would like to see who the AFL ticket are and might well vote for them because of who they are and not what they are i.e AFL ticket .

Whoever it is needs a team..its not just a one man band.. Some of the Stockdale ticket seem eminently suited, but many wont want AS himself. Who would be on the Bartlett team.

Its a reasonable question otherwise what your offering is no better than Stockdale saying Im prez or the highway

I say we listen to the AFL because we need their help, and I honestly believe they have our best interests at heart. So many independ boards have tried and failed, it's time for something new.

The key is stability and unity. We can't afford an ugly battle.

We need to give up on the 'blame game' right now if we want a future, let alone a decent future!!

(ps. Yes, I know that your comment was said in jest BBB)

My question is the AFL endorsed ticket or Stocdale's ticket.

I don't think there would be many fans who know how to judge a ticket - the key is the 'AFL endorsed' aspect of it.

Frankly, it has got to the point where my vote will depend on whether the AFL endorsed ticket has AFL support (which it obviously will) and that they are all Demons (which I assume they will be).

Stockdale seems to be against the very idea of the level of AFL involvement here and that is why I have framed the question as one or the other - AFL-endorsed or MFC-heavies-doing-their-thing.

I have no problem with stockdale, and would love us to be led by an outspoken strong president who won't take it from anyone in the media or afl.

BUT

now is not the time. In 18 months or 3 years when we are on track again Thanks to the afl bail out it will be time to take on such a leader. Right now we need the afls help and support.

I find it funny that Stockdale's main issue is governance when his mob tipped out elected council officials and put in administrators. Good or bad thing I'm not going to argue but the government at the time thought the councils where unable to run themselves. Same now. The AFL believes, with good reason that the MFC hasn't been able to run itself properly. The record would show they are correct, I'm not sure many would disagree.

Forget it Alan, the people don't seem to be with you on this one.

Not too mention the attempted emasculation of the Auditor-General, a rather suspect Crown Casino tendering process and the former Premier awarding advertising contracts to an agency in which he had a shareholding.

Most definetaly NOT Stockdale!

Too much baggage from the past. He had his chance and failed like many others after and before him.

I'm 61 and would like too see a flag before I kick the bucket. We have a better chance with the AFL's backing and support.

There's my two bobs worth.

iv"a I hope you are not suggesting the Honourable members are less than honourable!

A pox on both their houses I say OD

As soon as someone wants to call themselves "Honourable" I wonder why?

Are they thinking we don't think they are?

As the late Winston Churchill said in riposte to a female opposition politician who accused him of being drunk in the House. That may be so honourable member, but in the morning you will still be ugly.

Standby for a statement from Stockdale honorably withdrawing from the race having now being satisfied that all af his concerns have now been allayed after discussing in detail the plans put forward for the club by the other ticket.

Let's hope.

He can be involved for all I care.

But I want one ticket to be ratified in October and for it to be AFL endorsed.

I can't see a better way out of our current mire than a path with AFL support.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
