Brett Lovett - one of my all time favourites and very under- rated. Hope his son has inherited his good decision making, coolness under pressure and ability to find space. Didn't he come to the Dees from the Hawks?

I know he didnt make the quota, but you'd still make a beeline to draft his kid if he showed the same aggression.

Can we get some red dye for Spencer?

Do you remember Brett Lovetts - short steps ?

Not to be confused with shirking an issue as he was as brave as brave but he had such fat little sausage legs that he ran like Fred Flintstone bowls.

I have never felt so calm as when he had ball in hand. Efficiency and decision making = 100%

not sure if Lovetts even understand the concept of fear

never noticed it over the years

Brett Lovett was an absolute gun

Came 4th in the 1990 Brownlow, 3 votes behind the winner Liberatore who had 18 votes

Back in those days you had to earn your votes, now you just get cheap votes handed to you if youre a popular player and the hard worker no frills player rarely get rewarded

Footy really is [censored] these days

Brett Lovett was the half back flank version of Peter Daicos, low centre of gravity, never got caught, read the play brilliantly, never fluffed a disposal, and created. S**t he was good!

Wouldn't it be ironical if Sam Weideman, whose grandfather Murray was a Collingwood great and a thorn in the side of the Demons in many encounters in the 50s and early 60s (including 1958 when he was their premiership skipper) ended up at Melbourne?

Now didn't Healy have a son that was meant to be "the best of the lot" according to Schwarz..?

No?

I recall hearing that somewhere, but I've no idea of the kid's age.

It is a damn shame Rod Grinter's son James never panned out as a father son selection. He would be in is early 20's now.

I hope Lovett's boy ends up panning out for the club.

MELBOURNE

Jake Lovett (Danenong Stingrays)
Son of: Brett
Height: 192 cm
Weight: 80 kg
Position: Utility
2014 Games: 1
Draft Eligible: 2015

Melbourne fans would be salivating over the prospect of running machine, Jake Lovett. Although a different type of player to his father, Jake is a high-possession winning on-baller, with damaging disposal and has a tendency to be aggressive. Although he’s played just the one game so far, he didn’t disappoint. In round five against the Western Jets, the smooth moving live-wire was a ball magnet, running through the midfield and pushing forward at will. His line-breaking runs were of serious note, as he collected 21 disposals to match his three marks and five tackles. Oozing class, Lovett finished with a tidy disposal efficiency of 76 per cent and was named in Dandenong’s best despite a three-point loss to the Western Jets.

Billy Stretch (Glenelg)
Son of: Steven
Height: 179 cm
Weight: 70 kg
Position: Wing/Half Forward Flank
2014 Games: 2
Average Stats: 10 disposals 1.5 tackles, 1 goal
Draft Eligible: 2014

Known for his elite running capacity and his damaging kicking efficiency, Billy Stretch has got class in spades. His kicking efficiency ranks in the elite – and that’s off both sides. Playing for Glenelg, Stretch was selected in the three senior trial games, where he made an influence and would’ve kept his place in the side had it not been for the AIS’s tour of Europe. The good news is for Stretch, is that upon returning – he slotted straight back into the senior side against Adelaide, and finished with 10 disposals, three tackles and one goal. He’s already tasted what life at Melbourne is like, undergoing placement there for one week under the AFL-AIS program he’s apart of. The plaudits came thick and fast for Stretch who was professional, diligent and took everything the group through at him.

Jake Lovett listed as 192cm? Holy crap!! An aggressive and classy 192cm midfielder who can break the lines with his pace?! [censored] me!!!!

We should get Lovett into the club now like we did with Hogan and viney

I asked a journo, who'd know, about this kid.

"Will he make it?"

"Dead certainty. Quick off 20, lovely left foot."

That'll do me

There's a couple of things to love about this. We'll have quite a few left footers in the midfield in three years time. Tyson, Viney, Salem and maybe Lovett. Loves it.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
