WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DANIEL CROSS

I'm not sure a Roos appointment will help Cross become a Dee.

I suspect Roos will back himself to recruit a similar type that is 6 or 7 years younger.

Anyone in mind?

Anyone in mind?

No, I'm not that familiar with all player lists. But i reckon the chances of landing a Taylor Adams, or David Swallow increase, especially if we get a good PP. Maybe Greenwood.

Oversaturated by 2?

Byrnes and Jamar are the only players contracted for next year older than Sylvia.

And both should be gone.

Not to mention a highly regarded Coach.

And both should be gone.

And they are both likely to be here next year.

Both are best 22 with the list we have.

I don't think more kids will help our kids develop. And unless Spencer is seen as the future and we find a small forward - they are going to get games.

Guess it is up to the new coach...

Another one is do we look at Kerr, apparently on the outside at WC. Injury prone, off field questionable but is a great player who can really gut run and show our younger guys what it really takes to make it. 'Pennant', you would know the pluses and minuses on this. Your view??

Not a chance. If there's a more injury prone player in the league I can't think of one. The most benefit he could give us is on the field and it's perpetually 50/50 (hm, sounds familiar) he gets on there.

I think Roos could still go after Cross as well as some younger types. The senior player void needs to be filled and Cross still has quality.

The beauty of an appointment like Roos is that players may suddenly, remarkably, want to come to Melbourne.

would be happy with cross for 2 years

thinking we should offer a similair deal to brad sewell who doesn't seem to be getting much love from hawthorn

Love this idea and all for it.!

Im still but shocked they got rid of him as he was still playing some good footy!

Fanatical trainer, experienced, tough and hard, ultimate professional, leader and a great role model as he is highly regarded for being a great family man.

If Cross joins us (which i think he will) watch Viney and Toumpas improve hugely next year!

Would be a hell of a lot better than a Rodan or Byrnes!!

Would be a hell of a lot better than a Rodan or Byrnes!!

Christ! Any opportunity to bag our players (and this is not directed solely at you).

Will he be in our best 22? yes.

will he have a positive influence off field? yes.

is he the right sort of player to effect a cultural change? yes.

go for it.

Don't worry, Byrnes will still be there next year.

Exactly. This one is a no brainer. Get him here.

Fairs fair..it's more the decision to recruit them not then, personally., however they are both too old..

I think it's time for a month ban lol

Self imposed!!

Bruce McAvaney special comments..... averaged 22.6 disposals and 4.4 tackles in games this year (which was actually his lowest since 2004)

Very happy with this.

I've been calling for this to happen since early in the season.

Couldn't find a better bloke for a young team like ours.

I like the way we are reportedly going about it also, looking at giving him options for his post-playing career.

Two year deal sounds pretty good. Make it happen Demons!

Better than any of the veterans we drafted for this year. At least he played the last 6 games in the ones - and well too.

A respected leader, and a good inside mid.

If Roos wants him, then we go for him. No objections from me.

Really, Cross? ... yeah well, I reckon your on the money there.

1 year deal please unless only the first year is for playing. We look at Pedersen, Byrnes, Jamar all with year(s) to run on their contracts and it looks stupid. Even Rodan got 2 years some how.

The Dogs dumping Cross reminds me of when we pushed out Junior McDonald.

Very similar player and highly respected at the club and wider AFL.

Silly Doggies.

A 1 year deal and see how he goes, if he hits x amount of games or other KPI's it triggers a second year,

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
