The Trade/Draft Rumour Mill

Like the concept of trading 2 for a player and ending up with improved draft position as well (and if it were possible trading out a player instead of pick 22 sounds good to me if it's the right player to go).

However, the fact that names such as Elliot and Seedsman are coming up indicates how poor and lacking in imagination our own drafting was going back just two or three years ago. These two players were both cheap buys for Collingwood and now they're being considered (and quite validly so) as bargaining chips in deals that might net a draft selection as high as pick 2. The Pies have several players who have exceeded expectations when drafted.

How many do we have?

Howe and Mcdonald are two that spring to mind who were taken with later pics who could be used as bargaining chips if need be.

It still hurts every time I'm reminded of our past drafting blunders.. so with all due respect can we give it a bit of a spell?

Wouldn't touch Elliot and it's way above the odds for Seedsman at the moment.

I would think about a deal with Sydney that involved Gary Rowan though, the kid has got everything to be another Dangerfield.

Brad Scott and Guy McKenna were both Malthouse assistants also.

good point.

Neeld, Watters and Buckley all seem to have this rigidity to them - like Malthouse - as rightly pointed out - Scott and McKenna dont

They are quite different players and Rohan has struggled to get onto the field and has been underwhelming to say the least when playing.

I don't think he's worth looking at at all.

The only thing stopping Rohan from being a star is his body.

It's a pretty big thing though.

Mate of mine heard this

Saints making a hard play for No.1 draft pick, Jack Steven to Dees for pick 2. Then offload pick 2 and Sam Fisher for pick 1 and Giles

Who knows if right but it is the silly season.

Scott's very set on his game plan though. Every chance to get the chop soon if they don't learn how to defend. Hiring Tudor was a good sign.

What I think is happening with some of the Malthouse guys are they are trying to get the strict disciplinary style of Mick without getting the runs on the board first. You have to earn respect and Malthouse did that after his years of coaching. They can be as strict as they like (and stricter than Mick even) but they have to ditch the ego and build the respect first.

AFL trade site reports st Kildare after pick 1. Gws reluctant to trade. We could get involved in that mix somehow.

Pick 2 & Blease (or another player we may trade) to GWS for Pick 1

Pick 1 to St Kilda for Steven & Pick 3

How badly to Saints want Boyd and if GWS are not going to take Boyd(Big if) they lose nothing and gain Blease

Saints have been pushing hard to get 3 round 1 picks this year.

They have 2 (pick 3 and 17) and would have our pick 2 or GWS' pick 1 in their sights but I can't see anything they have to offer. (apart from Stevens)

I think he'll take a tonne of development (besides his body) to be a real star though. To me he could be an even better version of Andrew Walker at his best at either end of the ground. He has the speed, size, height and leap to be super good at either half forward, half back or the wing. Not convinced he'll be a Dangerfield though who does it from the centre square, that's the next level. If anyone can develop him into that it will be Sydney, although it will take a few preseasons to get his body right regardless.

Did your mate just see that the saints wanted the number 1 pick and make up that trade because it sounds remotely believable. Because if he read it right he would see that GWS have no intention of trading pick 1

We're being linked to Jarryd Lyons from Adelaide as a third party to the Polec deal. Solid prospect from East Bentleigh/Sandringham, pretty sure his father is Marty who played 27 games for the Dee’s in the late 70’s.

Supposedly the Lions want a semi-developed player for Polec, not a pick.

Who do we have to offer that would be happy going to Brisbane?

...Bail? Spencer? Both benders.

And Jack Steven is the one absolutely untouchable on St Kilda's list. They'd burn the club down if they traded him I think. No to mention if GWS accept pick 2 + Sam Fisher for pick 1 why wouldn't they do pick 3 + Sam Fisher and the saints keep Steven.

I'm sure the saints have offered pick 3 and Sam Fisher and I'm sure GWS have knocked it back.

Don't think they'd want Spencer. We could interest them in Fitzy he's clearly better than Martin but I don't think they'd like that. Otherwise Strauss, Blease or Tapscott but their currency is low.

They certainly need some players if they lose Docherty, Polec, Longer, Yeo etc, can't just get picks for all of them.

Polec wants to go home to SA. If neither club trade for him he will either go PSD or resign at Brisbane if he's not under contract.

My mate heard it and giving #1 up would depend on how badly gws want Fisher

No matter how badly they want Fisher I doubt they would give up pick 1 and if Steven left the saints Scott Watters would have to move to Antarctica and live in an igloo

Agree.

I can see that pick 1 >> pick 2 because of Boyd.

Hard to see that pick 2 >> pick 3 unless Scharenberg is very highly rated by the Giants and they fear MFC may pick him.

That trade is effectively 3 + Steven for 2.

St Kilda are not seriously in the Boyd hunt, Pelican brought it up to snow the saint supporters. Forget about it.

Rohan is coming back from a broken leg, if he gets it right he will be a star. I'm basing looking at him from our inside knowledge, if his recovery is on track then I would seriously look at him.

I would do pick 2 for Rohan if medicos gave hime the all clear.

Swans won't let him go, I think they know what they have.

I heard Denham this morning on SEN mention that were now looking at Dom Tyson. I then heard from somebody else that this is right and it involves Blease and an exchange of picks. Has anybody else heard anything about it? From memory Tyson is coming off a knee, but he can play. Was keen to head to Richmond I believe after his first year at GWS.

Not worth any of the picks we have to offer would have to be him and someone or swap draft picks. Even with St Kilda being involved if it went that way

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
