Mahoney- "highly likely we will give up pick 2"

But he won't name a list of players it could be on, very hush hush.

wow, interesting, thanks for the updates, I couldn't get on.

with it now 'highly likely' that pick 2 will be traded, I would surmise that the club have already identified and acted on the player/s they would like at the club next year.

I thought earlier this week that the rumours or lack there of, suggested to me that the 'big fish' had already been landed or close to landed.

Wouldn't be surprised if we have already done a hand shake deal with club x for player y.

Hopefully x = Adelaide and y = Rory Slone

The feeling I got out of that interview is that we are already in fair advanced with a club or player and close to getting a deal done with pick 2. Will be interesting to see who though. I mean you wouldn't just say its highly likely we will trade pick 2 when you already haven't got someone in mind.

Anyone else get that feeling?

yeah man.

I also got the feel from the interview that they have an established player lined up for pick two. That was the view of the radio hosts also as they are speaking right now. Wallace suspects it is someone aged 23 or under who is currently interstate.

Roos is going to trade pick 2 for some B grader and win a total of 10 games over his 2 years. Walk away and leave is with a middle of the road list and without a great prospect that we could've got with pick 2. That's my worry.

Viney and Jason Taylor better exert their will on these decisions and Mahoney better stick to administrating and leave the decisions to the big boys.

I heard Roos is a fair chance of staying on as coaching director after he finishes his coaching? If so id doubt he would screw us over like that.

Pick 2 is HIGHLY likely to go!

Huge news and very surprising. Roos is backing in our young talent, and clearly doesn't rate Aish too highly.

Watch this space.

Don't think that our decision to trade pick 2 is any reflection on Aish or whoever is available in the draft. It's more that we need established midfield talent and we have identified a player (or two) that suit our needs.

Would like T Adams and D Shiel and pick 10 - for picks 2, 20, & Jamar

yeah I know this is a rumours thread, but seriously when is the last time two clubs traded that much between them in a single trade.

Besides Adams doesn't want a bar of us (basically confirmed by Mahoney), why do people keep bringing him up?

Mahoney- "if a player has been in the system for 20-30 games and his 24-25 yeas of age that would be pick 2 worthy. We would want to use pick 2 on a player that would be with us for 8 years."

Ok, so from footywire, below are the players that match those critera:

name games age

Keeffe, Lachlan 22 23yr 5mth

Gumbleton, Scott 35 25yr 1mth

Colyer, Travis 34 22yr 1mth

Baguley, Mark 28 26yr 4mth

Kommer, Nicholas 19 23yr

Spangher, Matthew 36 26yr 5mth

Cheney, Kyle 32 24yr 1mth

Armstrong, Tony 29 24yr

Rampe, Dane ® 23 23yr 3mth

McKernan, Shaun 32 23yr 1mth

Lynch, Tom 29 23yr

Jenkins, Josh 28 24yr 7mth

Austin, Mark ® 33 24yr 7mth

Veszpremi, Patrick 23 24yr 1mth

Cordy, Ayce 19 23yr 1mth

Delaney, Luke 26 24yr 3mth

Stewart, Daniel 36 24yr 11mth

Saad, Ahmed 29 23yr 11mth

Dennis-Lane, Trent 28 25yr 1mth

Simpkin, Tom 26 23yr 1mth

Milera, Terry 25 25yr 8mth

Dick, Brad 27 25yr 2mth

Brennan, Jacob 26 23yr 8mth

Zorko, Dayne 38 24yr 7mth

McKeever, Nial 22 24yr 7mth

Laidler, Jeremy 26 24yr 1mth

White, Simon 26 25yr 3mth

Reid, Sam 24 23yr 10mth

If that's the list we're picking from, my money's on Zorko.

edit - that formatted very badly, I'll stick it in a table, one moment please

Great to hear

Maybe we can have a prediction thread to see who is closest to the pin

My prediction -

Melbourne trade pick 2 and 20 to West Coast for Andrew Gaff and pick 6

That would be a huge win for us. Keep a high first round pick and give a second rounder for Gaff. Can't see West Coast going for that.

I certainly think it will have to be a trade back into the first round for us like your one above. There just isn't any out of contract top liners out there.

I'd look 24 to below in age as well. Number of games played is the key i feel. That 20-30 mark.

That must be a misquote. If we want a 24-25 year old mid we want one with 60-100 games ready to go not one that barely played.

Cheers for the list, the stats of 20-30 games as a 24-25 yr old doesn't quite stand out as worthy of pick2 in my eyes... I would have thought 20-30 games and 21-22 yrs of age might be more interesting. Looking at those players, I don't see any players worthy of pick 2 unless we get some good change as well...

(Note I do rate Zorko and Rampe as players... but I don't think they are worthy of pick 2)

i para-phrased as best and fast as i could, so i dare say it very well could be. The 20-30 game mark is the key in this.

Assumptions have a way of biting you in the butt but I heard Mahoney and the first thing then went through my head is that the MFC are already way down the track on a player they want and a player the other club will trade for pick 2. (or a deal including pick 2)

Choke, where does Bernie Vince sit age wise? There's always been a question of application but I wouldn't be overly surprised if he was in our sights, particularly if it was a two player deal.

Born 1989 or later and Victorian midfielder at interstate team:

Adelaide: Sloane, Sam Kerridge, David McKay, No first round picks to trade back to us!

Brisbane: Rockliff, Claye Beams (Brissy boy but brother in Vic), Ryan Lester, Patrick Karnezis

Freo: Suban, Sheridan, Mitchie

GC: Prestia, Swallow (WA boy but brother in Vic)

GWS: Taylor Adams, plenty others but no others have expressed any interest

Port: Andrew Moore, Jasper Pittard, Aaron Young

Syd: Hannebery, Lamb, Rohan, Parker

WC: Gaff, Selwood, Shuey, Ash Smith (def)

Sloane, Scott Selwood, Gaff, Hannebery, D. Swallow are the class of the lot. Would be happy with them for pick 2 with something additional for most of those thrown in. A lot of the others on the list are quality players but we'd need something significant to come with them ie first round pick coming the other way.

Maybe Rockliff is a smokescreen. Could Jack Redden be a player that we have approached?

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
