The Trade/Draft Rumour Mill

I am not taking that line seriously Maldonboy.

There are a number of coaches as good as Roos around at present.

I have yet to see any miracles from PR.

I think getting Roos is a huge get.

However, we are still not an attractive destination and to claim that the Roos factor negates the "we stink it up big time" factor is wishful thinking. The best we can hope is

1/ a club bites at our number two pick AND the player involved is swayed by money.

2/ a player not getting a go at another club sees the potential of getting good game time in the midfield because we dont have one

3/ players in their twilight ( who probably have a premiership medal - Chapman ?) dont get a decent offer from a potential finalist and see one more payday contract from us

If we see a dramatic turnaround this year, then maybe next year players will see us an attractive proposition - but today and now ? meh....

He would be derelict in not talking to us.

We will be aiming for a few fringe players Roos thinks he can mould and one good midfielder for pick 2 if it doesn't happen then we will go to the draft and bring in a couple of "old stagers" (chapman etc) for a year or so to help out.

I dont expect a lot of movement beyond that.

The most interesting rumour was Roos met with Silvagni, what does GWS have that we want and vice versa even if indirectly?

Taylor Adams of course

This just in:

A deal has supposedly been struck between Richmond and Port Adelaide which will see Matt White join the club on a 3 year deal.

Port trying to trump Adelaide by offering a trade deal to Tigers as he can UFA. Didn't think trade weeks(s) had started?

I take your point Old Dee. But I reckon either of a young gun midfielder, or a talented fringe midfielder who was being courted by the Dees would be caught in-between a number of contradictory thought processes:

1 - Melbourne are rubbish and I could end up playing in a rubbish team.

2 - Will I see finales at MFC?

2 - I will, however, get full game time in the midfield

3 - Paul Roos is a great coach and establishes an impressive player development model.

4 - Melbourne will probably improve under Roos.

And amid these factors, Paul Roos as coach will be a huge factor in finally luring the right player. I agree that there are no runs on the board, and as I have posted many times now I refuse to emotionally buy in to the Roos hype until I see substantial and consistent runs on the board. But players looking to leave their current club, be coached well, and end up in a great club culture - that will be very attractive because of the Roos.

The drawback is knowing that in 2-3 years time MFC will have a different - and currently unknown - coach.

Struggling to disagree with that Maldonboy.

We are staring oblivion in the face if Roos cannot fire up respectability over the next two years God help us.

And besides my mate and I talked about other MFC stuff and then at the end he just said "Saw Rawlings at the airport this morning, wonder where he is going?" No mindblowing rumour to go with it, sorry!

I love how posters put out rumours and get smashed by others for doing so.

That's what this thread is for isn't it?

Okay, well apparently Rawlings is doing a 3 state tour to secure Adams, Rockliff and Sloane - is that going too far?

Rumours are one thing... riding on the back of others' rumours and claiming credit is another.

This is spot on.

Others have posted rumours in here and not been shot down in the slightest. It's one thing to post them, but one thing entirely different to have the credibility to do so, and as hartack has mentioned he is simply riding on the back of Facebook and Twitter rumours and claiming a mate has told him about it.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
