I have never posted a rumour based post as I have no connections to the club or players but I was told of one today that really excited me.

Tom Rockliff has agreed to terms with the MFC and will wear the red and blue next season and beyond. I heard he and his girlfriend have become home sick(she is from benalla), and Tom is sick of the off field crap going on up there.

My source is my mates sisters best friend is the girlfriend

Don't shoot the messenger, but I thought I would put it out there for all demonlanders to know

Not knocking your source or rumour but I still can't believe that one. Some would argue Rockliff is their best player and the Lions won't just let him go, even if he has "agreed to terms" with our club. Don't see it happening.

Contracted to 2014 as well so it would be a high pick to get him.

Exactly. I long for the days when I was 18 and can get genuinely excited about a rumour like that, but I just can't do it anymore, ha ha! Rockliff won't be going anywhere.

his contract is up, he signed a 2Yr extension in August 2011.

pardon me, I didn't read it properly. he had a year left in 2011 before extending x 2.

If true, this would be bloody sensational.

From memory, Rockcliff polled 16 votes in the Brownlow.

about the same as......... :unsure::rolleyes:

People do realise a trade CAN be done MID contract ....if all parties agree...thats the nature of contracts :)

That's not lost on me. If the Lions trade Rockliff then they have officially gone right off the deep end.

a good time to hit the lions up , whilst theyre a little off kilter, what with all their mess ( unlike our fine sorted out club :rolleyes:^_^ )

They've a number who are rather peeved and/or homesick. Theyre in for a mini rebuild at least.

so who would you swap to them for a Rockliff, of comparable value?

Ok this is what I have heard - Dees in a big way into either Swallow or Sloane with a player and a pick 2 for a lower pick swap.

Club considering an offer up to 1.2 over three years for Taylor Adams.

Sources - internet only but repeated.

Ive asked elsewhere....is he worthy of some form of pick swaps including ...dare i say it....#2 ? Just asking.

Also posted elsewhere but I will here to .. Hypothetical..

We think we have Cross, make a play for Chappy. Roos has a history of player-whispering blokes like Shaw.

add Rockliff to the middle....now look at the team sheet ? draft some others and youve got 2-3 reasonable years of a competitive type midfield whilst kids come on.

We're a footy team again...a real one !!

if the rumour was true then the question is real. & I think it is believable as it was said that Rockliff told the club he wanted out if Voss stayed. this is why I think the AFL are up to their necks into the Lions, & indirectly, I think this could be why we didn't get the PP.

so with that, could it be that another player as well, could be involved to make up the P2 difference? I would rather they had p2, than giants or suns,,, but I would also like Adams & or Swallow.

Club is in a quandary over our available forwards/talls. We have Clark, Dawes, Hogan, Fitzpatrick, Spencer, Gawn, Jamar. All don't fit. They know we need backups but that is way to many. Expecting at least Spencer to get the sqeeze and maybe Jamar.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
