MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION

Featured Replies

Great to see Watts named on the ball.

Hope he plays there.

yeah Spencer is more battle hardened than both Gawn and Fitzy, both of which are only match fit enough to compete as a forward/ruckman. Since Fitzy is getting a career defining run in the AFL team in the forward/ruck position, gawn misses out

I've rated Spencer above Gawn so far this year. Positives and negatives about both but I was a bit more impressed by Spencer's fitness, pressure and handling of the work load.

Gawn will be great and in many aspects already is (that moment he was in the centre square fending off two GWS defenders marking and playing on to kick the goal was epic), but at this stage in terms of fitness I'd play Spencer.

B: Lynden Dunn, Colin Garland, Dean Terlich
HB: Tom McDonald, Cam Pedersen, Mitch Clisby
C: Jeremy Howe, Jack Trengove, Matt Jones
HF: Aaron Davey, Chris Dawes, Sam Blease
F: Shannon Byrnes, Colin Sylvia, David Rodan
FOLL: Jake Spencer, Jack Watts, Nathan Jones
I/C: Jimmy Toumpas, Daniel Nicholson, Dean Kent, Jack Fitzpatrick

I heard a commentator say during the week that if turning the ball over was an Olympic sport Melbourne would win gold. Well ladies and gentlemen you run on squad for turn over kings has been listed in bold. Not surprisingly for a team 17th on the ladder with 1 win most of the bolded players are also bad at defending and or getting the ball in the first place. But good news, with the exception of Rodan and Fitzpatrick I believe they are all contracted for next year.

The great thing about Spencer is he'll always be chasing you, the bad thing is his understanding of play is so bad he will always be chasing and not be in the right spots. He'll also get out muscled by McEvoy who is actually one of the smaller/lighter rucks in the game. But for some reason I understand Spencer's inclusion and aren't overly disappointed.

We should note Dawes is no certainty and that Gawn or Sellar are both chances to come in.

Is the dud one still there? Did Neeld pick the side?

Hey u never know with the dud one gone the shackles may have been released and we will c a more positive attacking game style.

If Dawes ain't ok Gawn may come in at the last min.

Spot on, its like he is chasing Shooter McGavin for Happy Gilmores PGA jacket...

Agree! i believe Gawn is far better around the ground than Spencer!

I believe if you look at the stat's they do not support that idea.

Gawn was nothing wonderful in the games he played.

Byrnes ahead of Tapscott?

Spencer ahead of Gawn.

What far king idiots. Coach for the future Neil, not for your résumé.

Why are you in love with Tapscott?

I doubt he has justified his selection in one game so far this season.

Besides the odd bump what has he contributed and what does he offer?

Watts into the action. May force him to put his body on the line.

I'm told the Jamar toe injury relates to a minor case of leather-poisoning.

Sure as hell not from kicking it !!!!!

For all you nuffies that say Spencer shouldn't be playing cast back to your mind last year when spencer toweled up Mcevoy

They might not turn it over as much with a slightly different set up. Who knows what Craig will bring in terms of game day coaching and tactics.

Why the hell is Spencer in the team ahead of Gawn?

They are awful selections.

Lets sack the coach...Spencer has been killing it at VFL and is more ready to play first ruck in the AFL than Gawn is.

My thoughts precisely (you can add why are Spencer AND Fitzpatrick in the team ahead of Gawn).

I don't understand why they don't play Magner either.

Yes, I should have said 'very minor'.
