Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - PAUL ROOS

Just saw the Roos comments on Classifieds... He's coming, no doubt. That was man telling a lie!

They didn't even show the tell either. That was the following line once Sheahan rephrased.

Why won't you love us Paul? Why?

We can change, we promise.

He actually said at one point tonight, "I think Melbourne, as funny as it sounds, is an attractive prospect for an aspiring coach".

It was the equivalent of, "it's not you, it's me".

Llyod - He's (Roos) said no, so move on - unless he has said something behind the scenes

Carro - Get Williams very strongly

Hutchy - He says we are looking for a saviour and we shouldn't. We dont need a saviour and re-build with the right coach from the ground up. Then tried to say we have been terrible forever and Gary and Carro shut him down (I liked that)

Gary - It sounds like he thinks Roos will (links to Hird's comments)

My love for Gary returned tonight. I much prefer him standing up for the club in the media than dipping his nose everywhere in club matters internally.

I doubt he'll be our coach next year and think we should move on; the longer this hangs around the more damage it will do to us if he finally says no which I think he will. No one wants to play for us no one wants to coach us, what a debacle.

Love him to be the coach but if he won't say he is giving it consideration then it has to be a no.

Yes I know all the other part about the Board etc. but I just can't se him accepting and at the end of it he merely has to point to his previous comments. He has never said he will and all we are doing is working ourselves in to a lather.

Craig, Eade, Williams are the most obvious options and Craig is there and will call a spade a spade without insulting or putting the players offside.

I agree, I'd like to flush out those that are interested, as opposed to those that aren't, so we can have something tangible to discuss; I'd like to be in a position to talk about the merits of the candidates that want to coach us.

I'm sick of the rumours and innuendo and all the lip readers and amateur psychologists that can tell if someone is lying by the fact he scratched his nose; let's get some meat on the bone and talk facts.

Robbie, you've got a case of the old MFCSS. Roos himself said the opposite. We are still a surprisingly good destination for a coach and by extension new players. That is, if the right person signs on as coach. This seems like a case of defence mechanism. You don't wish to get your hopes up in case he declines. I completely get that. I just think he's ours. He's not a saviour, but he is an important part of the short term and hopefully long term puzzle that creates a powerful MFC.

There are a couple of reasons he's refusing to categorically say he'll take the job. Obviously, the President and board are yet to be fully settled on or even announced. There is the potential lame duck incumbent coach Neil Craig. The AFL also have to tick off our little assistance package. I maintain Paul Roos will coach the MFC in 2014.

Your defiently on to something AF.. you know something we all dont?

At the moment I'm merely looking at it logically. He has consistently avoided ruling out coaching us. Why? If he wasn't going to coach us, he would have said it by now. My admittedly external reading of him is that he is a man of integrity. It simply doesn't follow that he'd lead us down the garden path just to feed his ego.

What we do know is that the AFL will set him up (and the club by extension) very nicely. They'll set him and the club up to succeed. That's not to say we'll win a premiership automatically, but the circumstances will play to his ego and the AFL's backing will provide him solace against any lingering doubts he may harbour. His appointment has had the air of inevitability for a while now IMO.

The big question is whether this thread will reach a hundred pages by round 23,

If Mike keeps on asking him each week, it will...

Mike obviously cannot accept his answers.

Leave him alone, Mike.

In the meantime we have our committee ready.

Now, we just need the season to finish.

Well looks like the AFL Package is about to be announced and from reading this Craig seems to be on the outer and if Roos won't take the job it's Eade or Williams.

http://www.smh.com.au/afl/afl-news/25m-to-help-dees-get-house-in-order-20130715-2q0a6.html

The bail-out package will be used to partly fund the payouts of sacked senior coach Mark Neeld, worth nearly $600,000, former chief executive Cameron Schwab and former football manager Chris Connolly.

Interim coach Neil Craig could also fall into this category should he be overlooked for the top job and not be required elsewhere at the club. He has a year to run on his contract.

The money could also be used to help lure a high-profile senior coach, such as Paul Roos, and an experienced football department boss.

What a joke that we have to get the AFL to fund the payout of Neeld, Schwab and Connolly, I guess they are all gone because the AFL wanted them gone.

How did the club get in this mess.

It's hard to believe that a few years ago we had Jimmy and the debt demoltion, matching it with good sides and smashing others, with a stable of fresh high draft picks, Jurrah etc coming through the ranks.. things were looking rosy there for a minute

Yes it is, and yes we did, but somehow it all went wrong; it just shows that if you don't get the right people in charge it means nothing. Schwab was wrong, Bailey was wrong and Neeld was wrong and we are now back to where we started, but under administration, because we've shown time and time again we can't look after our own affairs.

Do you want to get the right man or do you want to have something to discuss on Demonland? We can't talk to Eade, Williams or Ratten until the season is finished anyway. We've just announced the construction of a selection panel. Buckle up. We've got a couple of months of this ahead.

The $2.5Million+ rescue package from the AFL to MFC featuring in this morning's news report should focus Roos if nothing else can. The news report said that it might be announced as early as today.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
