Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I like your optimism Binman.

My optimist side is telling me we'll have a string of Monday morning press conferences from 2 weeks out from the end of the season to announce our arrivals to help build some momentum into the new season

Monday August 19 heading into Round 22 a press conference to announce the new Head of Football is Matthew Drain. A big thankyou to Josh Mahoney who is no longer required.

Monday August 26 heading into our final game a press conference is called to announce Paul Roos as our new Senior Coach effective as of the end of the season. A big thanks to Neil Craig who will step into the role of development coach for our 1st & 2nd year players while Todd Viney becomes our specialist opposition analyst and Dave Misson will stay on in his role. Assistant coaching changes and board movements to be made in coming weeks, but yes Paul does know what they will be.

Monday September 2, Cameron Ling has signed on as the new midfield coach with Brian Royal making way.

Monday September 9, Shane Woewodin is returning to Melbourne as our new backline coach. Jade Rawlings moved on.

Monday September 16 (After the election) our new board is announced in a partial handover:

President: Alan Stockdale

Vice President: Chris Kelaher

Other Members: Don Argus

Geoff Freeman, Greg Healy

Peter Spargo, Greg Wells

First Monday After Sydney have been knocked out of Finals (23rd or 30th), Leigh Tudor comes in as new forward line coach and Leigh Brown is thanked for his time.

First Stockdale won't be President, l hope your right with the other board members though. I have a feeling Brown and Rawlings are on contracts for next year.

I have no idea on this - how could I ? However, reporting on Mark Fine's show ( replacing KB for the week ), Tony Sheehan (son of Mike) today had Roos a 70% chance of taking the job, and firming

Although I feel those guys are just talking out their a$$es, the big thing about Roos is he hasn't given a categorical no yet. IF we are to get him it'll be interesting to see how much coin he'd be on, because there'd be no point in him taking on the role if he's crippling the club financially with spending in the FD, and I reckon he would see it that way as well.

Still I place him as an outsider to Choco in terms of likely coach.

yes it does Buddy, not to exactly 100%, but if you are at 51.00 that means less than 2%.. add those 15 coaches up it is around 28%

and check it again Craig is at 10.00

Gambling by bookies is not worked on 100%

Otherwise they wouldn't make a $

If you don't bet don't argue it is not Math.

Obviously I want to see our club with the best and experienced Football Dept possible. However I feel for the Mahoney/Brown/Rawlings' of the club who appear to give it their all, but don't know if they're coming or going.

IMO the sooner PJ let's everyone know where they stand in the scheme of things the sooner the team can create some stability and hopefully performances.

Here's my uneducated guess as to how things will play out.

Roos in discussions with the club at the moment. Keen to take it on. No need to announce for a couple of months Wants to extract as much as possible from the AFL in terms of support and draft concessions.

Mid August club announce Roos ha been appointed head coach and will come in at seasons end to oversee draft etc fro next season. In the mean time will meet with Craig and discuss how he would like the boys to play.

Craig will be announced as Football Manager, perfect for the role, has the team onside already (in the same way Balme does at Geelong) and will work hand in glove with Roos and PJ. A smooth transition takes place at seasons end.

After Roos is appointed he announces his assistants. Cameron Ling is one. Leigh Brown stays as does Rawlings. Royal goes and is replaced by Jnr, which goes a long way to healing some wounds.

Ahh.... Utopia!

Secondly, Jackson and the AFL have spoken of a more compact board with less members - 4 was the number, I think.

Easier and quicker to assemble the board for quick and effective decision making.

Craig also said he was not interested in the GMFO position.

He even went as far as in his most recent presser sarcastically asking the media throng if they thought he'd be a good fit for that position.

Clearly he doesn't.

Nor do those in the know.

He wants to teach and guide players and/or coaches, not run the footy dept.

Does anyone know the ruling on interviewing potential candidates ie: Eade & Williams while they are still working for other clubs??

Do we have to wait until their respective teams are finished for the yr?

Thought I heard of this new rule coming in????

Finally, since no one else has made the connection yet:

Misson was poached from St Kilda, where he had an excellent record with managing players' fitness.

A club he moved to when his wife was offered a lucrative position in Melbourne, after an equally successful stint at... Sydney.

Under the Paul Roos regime, where they won a flag.

And also developed player fitness management software package that was sold to other sporting organisations, such as Manchester United.

It's fair to say Roos and Misson have a good working relationship where they have a history of achieving success.

Yes, we have to wait until the season finishes before strictly "interviewing", but we can speak to their agent and give them a call for a chat.

How does Greg Healy keep his position on the board? He's the football director and the major criticism of Cameron Schwab coming from PJ is that there were four football department people answerable to him. I understand that being a problem of style with PJ, that he's not comfortable with that and it doesn't work for him, but if its a bad thing then surely the football director should have been on top of it and if it's a measure of dysfunctionality at the club then surely Healy should be the first to go after McLardy?

I had no idea Misson was Paul Roos fitness man at the Swans.

Thats gotta be a good thing as far as getting Roos to the MFC and putting the help he wants around him, the fitness guys already in place.

And doing a cracking job too - our better players never seem to get themselves on the park for the most part, others seem to struggle to run faster than Joe Blow in the crowd - hmmm just bad luck ? I have no idea but I'm a tad over it

Has bomber Thompson ruled him self out? He has to be the best coach around.... Its a long shot, but worth asking....

Tatu you of all people should understand,,, it's "Bomba", Not 'bomber'.... from the cartoon & tv series.

can't you read, I just said that, that its 'Bomba', from the TV series, & the Comic series...

Correct, Bomba with an 'A'.

Heard Thompson confirm it himself a couple of years ago.

I remember it since its the only time I'd ever heard of "Bomba the Jungle Boy."

lazy journo types changing history... I remember him in the 80's as 'Bomba'...

but people along the way, hear the nickname, and assume what it is. And then misspell it, & before you know it, the whole story & connection is lost.

& I would certainly give him a phone call to see where he's At? a very good coach, & one who did change a culture, with 'a little help, from his friends'. ^_^

I'd give Stephen Wells, Brian Cook and Neil Balme more credit than Mark Thompson.

Wells for bringing the talent in, and Cook and Balme for setting up a support structure to develop that talent.

Thompson isn't a terrible coach, but he was fortunate in the same way Chris Scott is now.

I can't recall Bomba making any genius tactical moves that swung matches.

He didn't get blood from a stone in the way Ross Lyon can.

The culture was driven by the players.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
