Our season was summed up right then.

Blease drops a mark on his own, then falls over, Toumpas tries to pick it up and gets tripped by Blease stretching out to pick it up.

From our mate Greggy D, apologies to those who actually knew about this.

Experienced administrator Matthew Drain could head Melbourne's football department

A NEW-LOOK Melbourne football department could be headed by experienced AFL administrator Matthew Drain.

The Australian understands Drain has been approached by new Demons chief executive Peter Jackson to head football at the struggling club, which is expected to make several key football department changes, including the replacement of senior coach Mark Neeld a year ahead of the expiration of his contract.

Drain, 44, has previously worked for Essendon, the Western Bulldogs and St Kilda at the top end, as either general manager of football operations, list manager or high-performance manager.

He worked alongside Kevin Sheedy at Windy Hill between 1999 and 2002 when Jackson was Bombers chief executive.

Jackson did not return calls from The Australian last night.

Drain, a former Victorian Sheffield Shield squad member, left Essendon to become high-performance manager of Cricket Australia, where he oversaw the development of a centre of excellence. Having played first-grade cricket for 13 years, he was also head coach of the Australian women's cricket team.

After leaving St Kilda several years ago, Drain sought a career change away from elite sport, working in law enforcement.

Should he accept the position with Melbourne, he would be ideally placed to renew his association with Rodney Eade, who is likely to be sounded out for the senior coaching role from next season.

Eade is currently a coaching strategist under Nathan Buckley at Collingwood, a position he has held since he coached the Bulldogs for seven years until the end of the 2011 season.

Drain and Eade had a close working relationship at the Whitten Oval for several years until Drain moved to St Kilda in 2008

Gee, when they mentioned all of our outs, we aren't doing too bad.

Frawley, Grimes and Clark are 3 out of our best 5..

Then throw in Dawes going down, Viney out... We have a bit to work with.

Matt Jones is playing really well.

Were getting thumped.

is that something you heard during the telecast Tim or just your personal thoughts?

I saw them chatting at a cafe about 2 weeks ago.

Mark Neeld, suck on that... Sam Blease, in your face NEELD!

Pity it's taken him 3 quarters of football and any number of dropped marks and turnovers for us to see it.

Posted

Trengove has predictably done nothing since quarter time

Watch the match, it might be a bit clearer why that is.

Blease continued pathetic defensive efforts have kept blease from playing. Not neeld.

Blease adds run and confidence, it's unshakable..

Neeld drops Sam Blease to the VFL and the kid just knows he can play, his confidence is unshakable.

Sam Blease is a gun and he'd canter past half out list at half speed.

Pity you have to crash the party!

Neeld isn't going anywhere, you people are dreaming.

And this is not his fault.

These guys are playing for him and having a crack. Our problem is not structures, gameplans or anything else.

We just have terrible, terrible decision making and technical skills.

When he feels like it. Playing Blease is a bit like giving the opposition an extra man.

That might have been the case, but most - not all - of his defensive efforts today have been pretty good. He is not a favourite of Neeld, that is clear. Other players have shown no defensive effort but continue to get picked.

Nah our game plan is awesome!

I heard that the top four clubs come to watch us train so they can copy it.

Cos we train "ELITE!!!!!"

Spot on.

OK so Melbourne does not want to pay out Neeld because we’re broke.

Here’s the solution!

We are on top of the ladder in the VFL (shock, horror) so swap coaches!

Let Casey’s coach be our coach until the end of the year and Neeld can try and coach Casey!

Why not?!

Garland has been our best today. Would love to tempt Hells Gates back here, but somehow don't think that is going to happen!

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
