The Best Player you have seen - AFL & Demons

Just watching the Gold Coast tonight you have to marvel at Ablett.

Stars make AFL great.

Ive had some favourties over the years, players who are just legends of the game.

Ablett Snr, Lockett, Robert Harvey, Buckley, Mcleod, Aker, Goodes. But for right now, Gary Ablett Jnr is the best for mine of this era.

His dad did freak things and i saw it first hand, but i reckon his son is better.

Who is your best ? and also Best demon of past 20 yrs ?

I spose mine would be Neitz.

In his WCE days, Judd was a freak - despite the fact that he won the inaugural 'Demonland Punchable Head Award.'

Liam Jurrah lit up my life for a couple of years.

Jeff Farmer was amazing.

Tingay was the hardest going around.

Garry Lyon.

But Ablett Jnr is the most amazing footballer of the modern era.

In this era Ablett has to have it by a mile. The only thing he doesn't have is a good overhead mark, but he is so far ahead in everything else he does it more than makes up for it. Next for mine would be Goodes. I love the way he plays and the fact that he can go anywhere on the ground and be a match-winner.

Best I have ever seen is much harder I think. The great full-forwards of the 80's and 90's were amazing, and stick in y memory. Jakovitch as well, but of course he did everything he could to fail and ultimately succeeded. Jeff Farmer for pure freak-factor. Loved Tingay. I honestly couldn't say who is the best of the lot.

Best for Melbourne would have to be the Ox in full flight. He was simply awe-inspiring. It still hurts to think what he could have been if his knees hadn't gone.

I'm not attempting to defend Morton's AFL career, but I truly am sick of people using that footage as some sort of attack on him.

If you had seen that game, you'd know that he wasn't running away from Lade, he was moving to create the next play; the ball was behind Lade and Morton saw the play coming towards him so he ran off to make space and present.

Flower, the Ox, Carey, Ablett sir and jnr, Brereton, ricuito (sp), Buddy, Hird, Voss, Black, Brown, jackovitch brothers, Harvey, Barker, Archer, West,

Oh this list could go a while

Scott West was a great footballer, Shows u dont have to be quick.

If Nathan Jones keeps going over the rest of his career, we will all hold him highly.

It wasn't an attack it was a bit of a laugh, it's quite obvious he is running to create a play. I found this photo of you...

Gaz Jnr is like nothing we have ever seen. He is complete. Consistently the most outstanding player on the ground and a wonderful bag of tricks as well.

Liam Jurrah is up there, maybe beyond, Gaz Snr as the most freakishly talented player I have ever seen. Goal over his head from 30 meters out was unforgettable, graceful screamers, lying on his back surrounded by players kicks a goal... hopefully we get to see more of him.

David Schwarz was on his way to being Carey-like. Who knows how far he could have gone, but all the signs were there.

Missed out on Carey, tragically grew up too far north to be properly introduced to football. So I think it has to be Ablett Jr in a no-brainer for me.

Y'know, for the best 'surge' of form of any MFC player, I might have to say Robbo, late in 2005. Averaged six goals a game, was simply stellar and basically dragged us over the line into finals.

But the question kind of sums up where Melbourne fell short.

You think of guys like Yze, Green, Woewodin, Leoncelli, Bruce, Robbo, White, Moloney, Davey, Farmer, Johnstone, even Junior, none of them ever managed to sustain the top level for an truly extended period. Step up for the occasional All-Australian consideration for example, but not in contention on any regular basis.

So that would make Neitz the best I've seen of us in my short time.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
