I must be the only one that sees this as a big positive but people carry on here mclardy aint tough enough doesn't sell the club etc. We are.deliousonal if we do not go after him hard. Very out spoken and is like Eddie in how he sells the club. Turned hawks into a powerhouse and is as passionate as they come.

Couldnt see it happening though.

Who offered it to him?

I think the OP either misunderstood or misreported. From what I heard he offered himself up as a candidate for presidency.

Oh god no. 1) We may as well change our nickname to the Melbourne Liberals/Silvertails if that is the case. We will bring in another bloke who doesn't really support the club but we will get him because he is connected with the right people, went to all the right schools and attends all the right clubs. Stuff that. 2) Jeff was lucky to walk in to Hawthorn when he did. If he was the bloke leading operation payback, then the club would have folded by now. Dicker was the one who did the ground work to get Hawthorn where it is, Kennett merely profited from it (kind of the opposite of his relationship with Steve Bracks!) He isn't one to help heal broken relationships, he aggravates them. We are a club divided. The worst thing we can do now is bring in a divisive figure.

lol

What a horrendous thing to even contemplate, let alone support. How many times has he gone on record berating the club, calling for mergers etc, Publicly smashes Clarkson after a loss, then apologises, putting it down to just venting "like a supporter". This amongst all the other garbled nonsense that comes out of his mouth these days. Sure, let's give that guy the keys.

Thats rubbish, Hawtorn are one of the most powerful footy clubs in the country, THANKS to Kennet, he's got ten lengths on the fools that are currently running the show at the moment, actually there not even in charge anymore, we could a lot worse, the guy that Kennet handed over the reigns to at the Hawks has received a gift, 60,000 members, powerful sponsors, Tasmania and a great footy side.

Mclardy was gifted a young exciting list on the rise, debt free club and increasing membership base and look where we are. Kennet came in with a young list on the rise and look where they are.

I disagree. When Kennett took over in 2005, while the team wasn't doing well on the field, the financial and membership base that has made them so strong had already been established by Ian Dicker. If Kennett were the man to lead the board after 1996, the Hawks would have imploded. They, like us now, had a lot of bruised egos and disenchanted club figures floating about and they needed a conciliatory figure. Kennett would have poured a jerry can on that bonfire. He was good in 'steady as she goes' times at Hawthorn as his knucklehead statements about the coach could slide. But for him to walk into a club like Melbourne would be flirting with disaster.

Its not hard to join the dots is it.

It's all over the news, he's been approached, WYL will have a nervous break down.

Wonderful move if it happens!!! People may not like Jeff but he delivers results, something this club has not done for many years. Mclardy is a goose and has no idea what he is doing. Along with Jeff along with Peter Jackson could turn this club around.

Announced by Jeff on Aw that he was offered presidency. Gulp!!!

Asked last year not in current situation

The articles state he was asked in recent weeks and approached by Melbourne people.

You are kidding??? So keep Mclardy in charge.. Pft... Jeff delivers resulst. I for one couldn't give 2 shits about his personality or what he has said in the past. This club is a basket case and someone like Jeff could turn it around.

Would just like to try and clarify this: Jeff Kennet has been approached by SOME MEMBERS, NOT THE BOARD, to stand against the current board and become president....

So the only alternative to McLardy is Kennett?

I can't believe people are supporting this. Jesus Christ. We really are over a barrel.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
