Well thought through response. Ughhhhhhhhh!

Another dud spud wasted pick.

From what I have seen on Barry (all be it not that much) but none the less, he has the one thing we are lacking at the moment, run, carry and speed. He is very crafty. I look forward to watching him in the future being our Lewis Jetta in terms of type of player.

He is a very good kick and flanks the stoppages well. During pre-season from stoppages drills they were trying to get the ball into his hands as often as possible from the stoppages, so for those saying he is a dud, and a nothing pick then you're idiots. He hits a lot of targets, was very high up in the kicking drill, endurance drill and vertical leap test at the draft camp also. Let him string some games together in the VFL

I may be wrong here, but he didn't play in the representative sides did he? Wasn't he just playing for his school last year? That would account for his slower than usual development having to start from significantly further back.

Pretty sure he played with the NT boys 'RM'.

Dom Barry has footy smarts. But too light, needs more pace and intensity. Still a way to go before his selection is seen as a positive.

Another dud spud wasted pick.

agree ... nickname is steak knives. Just an add-on to the deal

Spirit - so where do you stand? Am I reading a flip-flop opinion, or an uncertain at this stage one??? Are you with the pessimistic 31 who seems quick to use the "spud" word, clearly not appreciating just where, how and why he was picked, or do you carry a modicum of optimism?

Dom Barry isn't expected to do anything this year, kid came into the system very light on.

Dom is going to be some player down the track, he is an exceptional talent.

He was never expected to even push for MFC selection this year....any time in Casey seniors would be a bonus.

But I am always wary of comments like "going to be some player down the track", or "he will be a gun" until we have seen something at top level. Bitten too many times

Watching him on the Robbo show I was actually quite impressed in how well he speaks for a young man. No hint of nerves but I thought the way he spoke he looked to have a bit of leadership with him.

Anyways for people that have been watching Casey how is this young mans progress going? Does he look to have a future with us?

Cheers

Watched him on Sunday and he was very impressive, lots of run and carry and some good teaming up with Hoges. He will definitely get into the starting XVIII next year.

Definitely a project player but at least he has a couple outstanding attributes in speed and skill. He just has to work on his tank I'd say and probably isn't a great contested possession winner but then you don't need every player having to do that you need a balance and he will provide that.

Why do alot of people on this site think that if a player dosnt have a blinder of a game then they are a dud. I am sick of hearing this [censored]. Let them develop ffs

Dom was projected to go late in the draft last year, so there shouldn't be too much expectation that he will 'make it'.

I thought Dom was projected as a 2nd or 3rd round pick?

Regardless, he has characteristics that our team needs with his run and carry, and burst of speed.

I'm pretty sure he's spent most of the year in the development squad.

The Jed Anderson deal was announced after the deal which involved Dom Barry and given that Anderson had All Australian Under 18 honours under his belt and was far more advanced with his football, he came at a higher "price". In all likelihood, Anderson was not able to be worked into the arrangement that GWS arrived at with Melbourne.

I guess we better never draft anyone with the attributes run and carry then.... Great logic

I cannot believe this kid gets a shitcanning. I saw him at training in the preseason and he looked a likely kid, albeit small. Therefore a logical position is to give him some time at Casey and see how he goes. He is still akid FFS.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
