Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Suns chase Frawley

Highly unlikely to happen but I would love to retain Frawley ,Watts and Sylvia for 3 more years .

That would give us hope of making it somewhere near the finals .

Obviously in dream land by saying this. But imagine a 3 way swap:

1 - frawley to GC.

2 - Ablett to Cats

3 - Harry Taylor to us

Ha!

Let's just do a straight swap for Ablett - I'd be happy with that ;)

We need chip and Sylvia to stay on and continue to improve with the group, loosing these types for younger pkayers we will never play finals.

We need midfielders despratly and if we can pinch a cupple these two will preform even better

One of the more ambitious trade scenarios I've seen on Demonland

Incorrect, we'll play finals in five years.

Not really, it just shows how poor our KP defenders have been. You tell me who has been better?

I meant "capable or better than capable," not "capable or better than Frawley." Easy mistake.

Yeah I must say I read it as (or better) than Frawls.

You are right though, they have all been capable this year and Frawley has been down but his loss would be a huge blow. There is still an exceptional player in him, just needs confidence and probably some faith to restore his form.

The Scum article basically intimated we would lose him for nada at the end of 2014 - I thought that if he was made an offer we could match it as he's a RFA, and thus he had to stay?

My understanding is that we can match a rival’s offer next year, but if he really wants to go, he can reject our offer and let his existing contract expire and nominate for national and/or pre season draft.

My best case scenario is that Frawley signs an extension this year. I can’t remember the last time the best case scenario panned out for Melbourne (if I’m a sadist I might count not being penalised draft picks for non-tanking or receiving two first round picks for the defection of a former no.1 pick). We need to accept that Frawley leaving is a possibility, even if it’s not a desired outcome, and the club needs to be mature enough to do what’s best for the club. We didn’t do so well with the Moloney situation.

I think the club needs to know his intention by the end of this year, regardless of him being contracted next year. If he won’t sign an extension by the end of the year (he’s obviously entitled not to), then work with his manager to explore which clubs he’d be open to move to and look at trade offers. There’ll be plenty of (strong)offers, and Melbourne’s bargaining position will only get weaker if we let it drag on for a year.

Hahaha, your post actually made me laugh. Maybe Mark Knight should do a drawing?

Can't be resigned to defeat now, win a few games between now and then and show him we are on the right path and match the offers from the other teams,

just because another team is looking at one of our required players doesn't mean we can roll over and cry in a corner.

this is a must retain player.

I know Pederson has had a poor start to the season but could we not develop him to play Frawley's role in the backline? I believe he did play a bit of defence in his limited games with North. Similar body. We need mids. It is vital. If we can trade Frawley while we can get something worthwhile then let's do it. Trade him for a midfielder. And our backline is looking fairly strong considering the blitzkreig they suffer every week.

We signed Pederson for 3 years, so we need to find a viable role for him, and this could be it. We also need to see if Davis can play at AFL level as well. Third year on the list, emergency for the last 2 games, surely we will get a look soon?

He is a good VFL player

Could not get get more than the occasional game at North.

Siimlar to Bate and Newton good at VFL level but not AFL standard.

Frawley to GC gives them a realistic shot at top 4 and a premiership by 2015. The only other thing they need is a top line tall forward.

maybe dawes or clark??

that should set them on thier way

I'm not sure they are as keen on Frawley as this rumour sounds.

Up forward they have Dixon, May and Lynch developing nicely. All have different attributes but Dixon can back up ruck and has great mobility for his size. Lynch is their top forward prospect and has nice hands and May as a bit shorter and heavier and is a more a bulldozer type.

It's allowed them to have Thompson looking the goods at CHB and now they are giving Sam Day a shot at full back and he's going pretty well. They also have their top pick from the 2011 draft in Henry Schade 196cm Tasmanian defender who hasn't had a chance yet. I'm not sure on his progress. The suns also rate Warnock. Plus they have some other tall kids on the list.

If we traded Frawley we'd end up with McDonald, Sellar and Pedersen as our talls. I really don't rate Davis but we better include him as well. So we'd have 2 kids with dodgy kicking who aren't great one on one defenders and 2 big lump types who really should be depth. So we'd have to ask for one of Gold Coast's young defenders in return as well as mids I'd say. I'm not sure who would be openly happy to sit watching games with Sellar and Pedersen holding down key spots. Especially given their ages its not like these guys are 21.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
