As long as it takes. I felt empty yesterday watching that. Supporters around me turning on each other. Numb by the performance. Regardless, I will stick through thick and thin. That is the difference, I suppose, between a barracker and a supporter.

but i dont know how much i can take when putting my heart onthe line for them consistently and being failed.

so as a supporter i will support them till the day i die, but as a fanatic i dont know.

I attended Sunday with my 17 year old son. We had some big issues to discuss while watching. I spent a bit of energy screaming at McBurney (Strauss running too far - NOT, his refusal to pay over the shoulders & neck to MFC players, pulling out the free before the start of the third quarter... I could go on and on), but had to acknowledge how bad we were. Things got a bit tense between me and the boy at half time. By ten minutes into the third I suggested we leave and try to resolve our dispute. We sat in the car park and talked, then pulled out of the ground just before the final siren. I have never left a game that early before. As we drove home I was thinking I wouldn't be back until we showed drastic improvement. I was very depressed about how far the MFC had fallen. I felt it was only a matter of time before the coach got the flick. That was Sunday night. Before I went to bed I came to another understanding about the football... It was a special thing that I shared with my son! It wasn't all about winning and losing, it was our chance to be together, to share a tradition. I got up Monday morning and checked the fixture. My son's 18th Birthday is next month and I realised that the Bulldogs game is the first opportunity I will get to take him into the Long Room and shout him a beer. I woke him up this morning to tell him to get his collar and tie sorted because we have a very important date coming up, he was rapt. So, we will be there next weekend and whenever the Dees play in town. Coaches will come and go but families, and their traditions, last forever.

I must admit it would be far easier for me right now as an interstate member. I dont have to show up week after week and sit through hours of crap. After games like yesterday i feel like an idiot for donating more money than than just my membership fee though, its like giving money to a homeless drunk and then watching them spend it at the bottleshop

I just can't do it anymore, I'm so emotionly drained and broken by this club. I love it so much & have given so much support but It's just got to the point where I've got better things to do than watch this tripe. My kids don't want to come anymore they find it boring and have completely lost interest. I used to go every week with Dad to watch the Dees in the late 80's & early 90's & couldn't wait to do the same with my boys, it brakes my heart they've lost interest.

I'll continue to buy my membership but I need a break from this for a bit.

I'll never walk away from the club but as others have stated the emotional attachment to the club is fading in me. I sign up myself my two kids who don't care about footy and my mother who was a bombers supporter. My wife is in to me why I am flushing so much coin down the dunny. I didn't go on Sunday and I watched and then switched off and felt nothing. It didn't bother me in the slightest. It was as if I watched two teams I don't care about play. The only time I have really enjoyed being a MFC member was when I took my daughter to her first game and we smashed Sydney.

I've attended and sat through each melb based game since 07.... I bought in when Jimmy asked me to. I'm 33 and would say be one of the last generation of die hard Melbourne supports, it was born in to me and I just can't help it.

I always figured enduring the bad would make the good times so much sweeter..... Honestly that is what has kept me going.

I'll admit I take it to heart and its getting so tough I don't know how I'll keep going to games if I don't disassociate in some capacity.

None of us deserve this and we deserve honest answers ! Is there a current MFC player that will come out and name players names that are not intentionally trying !! I'd love to hear it cause that would show someone cares .....

I will always buy a membership, always, because I feel that it's the very least I can do no matter how bad things are.

But I'm exhausted. This week really broke me, it was devastating to watch and painful to experience. I'm going to sit this week out, because I have something on which I don't want to miss for the sake of another kick in the guts.

I feel ashamed that it's come to this, because I hate fair-weather supporters and in all of Bailey's time I never missed a game, but this club is making me feel intensely sick and it's time for a break. I will go to the Hawks game (and every other home game because we need the gate receipts) to watch us lose by 300 points and vow never to go again until something changes, and then I'll rock up the following week to watch us get humiliated on the big stage by Collingwood, and so on and so forth.

That is the life of a die hard Melbourne supporter. It's an ugly road paved with pot holes, and incorrect signs that tell me Success Town is roughly 1300-3000kms away.

Edit: I also have to agree that the last two years have seriously diminished my passion not just for the club, but for AFL in general. And I hate the club for putting so many people in this boat. I never felt more love and passion for this club than when Jimmy came aboard, but since he became ill and since 186, there is a certain disconnect that I can't quite recover. It gets more palpable each week too, where I find myself somewhere between laughing it all off as a big joke, and feeling sick to my stomach.

Deestar do you ever read up about Melbourne in the mid to late 60's. I can't remember 64 or even 65 or 66 but have vague memories of 67. Barry Vagg! Melbourne were really bad but were respected. Now we are a laughing stock. The Joke of the Football world. Bailey had us playing cohesive footy. Neeld always seems lost. Like a rabbit with lights in it's eyes. Robbie Flower touched on this today. The style of Footy is stop and go nowhere.

I really like Geelong; this era, anyway. I liked the Ablett era too, in the 90s.

I doubt I'd ever buy a membership, but I might go to some games or at least take a bit more of an interest in them than other teams.

I expect losses each week and am quite indifferent about it usually, because I have adapted to know and understand the feeling. But on Sunday it was just unbearable, just sad. Mostly due to the absence of a competitive stage at the start where the players have a crack, where I like to think we're a chance, there's a bit to get excited about and I'm vocally involved. Which has been there for all other games. But it just seemed from the beginning that we weren't willing to take GC seriously and they just shrugged us off, ran free and they weren't even 100% polished, and we seemed to let them clean up their mistakes far too easily. We stuffed up our first genuine chance to get a goal and I felt that completely ruined us. They probably should have been 9-10 goals up at quarter time.

The game was just flat and the atmosphere was terrible. There were a couple of little highlights from a few players, but we looked like the ruins of something once great. As did our fans. The annoying whinging about free kicks in every contest didn't please me. But then again, it's easier to get away with and express discontent with the umpires than it is the effort of the players. It seemed like half the crowd had left when the final siren sounded. The players walked off to perhaps a few dozen people, half of which seemed to be clapping ironically.

I am the same, If i can love the highs of the 2000 Grand final (even though i was only 6) I can certainly take the low's. I am a Melbourne supporter. The key word there is 'supporter'.
