A burning question in regard to daisy Thomas and Neeld is, It appears Thomas isn't a fan of Buckley so lets say we get a few more wins a better improved performances across the season, and Daisy says cya Bucks Neeldy mate what have you got to offer me would some people still want Neeld gone or keep Neeld because he can attract a few pies players to help implement his game plan?

i dont want the MFC to become a retirement village for Pies players who want to finish their careers on big pay cheques!

Not sure if Dale Thomas would make much of a difference to our side anyway, would prefer to target 2-3 guys who are younger and a rung below Thomas, but who could come into their prime at the Dee's. Guys like Prestia or some of the other Gold Coast mids with a few years under their belts or maybe even older guys like Foley from the tigers who still has a few years left in him but cant get a run ?

Your kidding if you think Daisy hasnt much to offer our side. We are desperate for players in his age bracket who can lead.

yeah , heaven forbid we get a proven 25 year old star with a wealth of finals experience under his belt already

i mean, what difference could he possibly make to our team?

Thomas is 25 years old, hardly pensioning age. After seeing how he played on the weekend (albeit off half back) but the effort he puts in when he doesn't have the ball in hand is huge. He has a media profile and yes with that comes a price tag, but it would be worth it.

I find it odd that you want younger players than Thomas, or older ones.... The age profile for Thomas is exactly the sort of thing that the MFC needs. Players in their prime or coming into it, with 100 or so games under their belt. Players that can contribute to the club for 4-5 years...

BTW My understanding of Foley isn't that he isn't able to get a run, but that he has been injured and only getting some games under his belt in the VFL.

Daisy would be our best mid, would halve the load of nathan jones and set a great example for our young mids. He is also the best of the FA pool and has not committed to the pies yet.

We need to get our act together and show some potential but we should be throwing everything we can at him. Long or short deal it doesn't matter. The injection of an a grade footballer into our midfield would change our results dramatically.

I rate Thomas ahead of Sylvia - mostly with regards to work rate, but also footy smarts.

He's an obvious target to replace Sylvia at seasons end. I would be astounded if Col remained at the club after the end of this season.

Thomas. Yes.

Jeremy Howe is a younger Daisey Thomas and he would benefit immensely from having him in the squad.

Get him to the club! This is free agency.

Exactly we are so desperate for players who have come from good cultures at seasons end. I don't want more kids quality seasoned players are a must. We need to build a the short amount of seasoned players we have ATM.

Strangely enough looking at the free agents list Ben Johnson from the pies a hard running defender could really help and lead our defence for a year or 2. I know he is 31 32 but could really show the way for the other guys. Would like Alan Toovey but his knee reco could be a bit of an issue and I doubt the pies would let Thomas Johnson and Toovey all go at once.

He could play any position we asked him to basically, he would command the respect of our young midfield and he credits a huge part of his rise as a footballer to Mark Neeld, if he wants to leave Collingwood we should make him and offer he can't refuse, doesn't mean we can't target others to.

pretty confident we won't regret it!

add in a cheap adam cooney and nick dal santo and we will be looking abit better

I think we'll have a fair bit of free coin at years end, looks to me like Frawley, Sylvia and Watts will leave. Davey will be pushed with Gilles, Rodan. Frawley will be a massive hit, it shows how much of a gaping hole Rivers left, but once Chip leaves our defense will screwed!

Considering Frawley and Watts would have to walk via PSD or be traded I wouldn't say we would be screwed. If clubs close to a premiership were willing to pay overs we could use it bring in some midfield talent complemented by the draft. Would also free up some F.A coin to get a consistent established midfielder (would take Thomas in a heart beat).

At this stage, I would not say either of those two are irreplaceable.

Saw Chip watching his mates play at Casey Saturday, didn't look like someone planning on walking out on said mates IMO

Landing Thomas would be the ideal result for us. Neeld said last year that he was one A grad midfielder short of what he wanted, and this would fit the bill nicely. He is in the rigth age bracket, has the experience and skills we need and gets on well with our coach.

Aside from this, does anyone know what Pendlebury's contract status is?

Why is Chip leaving besides being out of contract, if he leaves in search of finals ( let's be realistic which teams are in their window)

CATS - no one is on more than 500k

SWANS - paid big $$ for Tippet, would have players playing for less to be part of success .

HAWKS - must be at breaking point unless Buddy goes, they might target a GWS forward.

FREO - chasing Buddy.

PIES - no room in cap

BOMBERS - just got father son in Daniher

TIGERS ( think they are still of the pace) - possibility.

I'm not fussed if Sylvia or Watts leave. Frawley would be chasing a big three year deal then maybe a two year deal to see him out of the game. I thought I read both our captains and Watts were having their contracts fronted ended so as not to have problem in coming years. At a guess Mitch would be on 800k , Dawes 500k, Jones 350k. So where the hell is the money going considering we have to pay at least 92.5% of the cap. Davey retiring frees up 500k , Slyvia ????.

All that = offer Chip 4 years on 2.8 mill.

Someone produced a list of 10-12 good kids under 22. That can't ask for much yet, should still be enough money to chase a Daisy.

Flash won't be with us in 2014. That will help with the green groceries.

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
