i love nathan as much as any player previously pulled on a jumper, if only judged by his grit and determination.& consistancy..

but unfortunately he is seen or comes across as not the smartest tool in the shed..& as such shoots himself in the foot..

too nice & not as quick on the uptake in the iq stakes..( ala maloney.. )

We clearly have several players who could be captain, inc Nathan jones, the question being is the captaincy really JT's biggest issue or some sort of serious injury that has been holding him back the past two years?

I think intelligence shouldn't come into it, he is a leader, he leads by example and if Trengove stays as co-captain he can handle that side of it while Jones shoulders the playing side of things and let Jack focus on his game.

Watching FC tonight was interesting where Gary didn't just seem convinced they were going to elevate him in the absence of Grimes, he believed it was the protocol that was always in place. It was also interesting that he couldn't understand why all the others were so surprised, I must admit what Lloyd was saying made sense in that most clubs if you have a co-captain system and one goes down then the other becomes sole captain. I just wonder whether Gary knows something that we don't, that this was a planned scenario, particularly if it was Grimes that went down with a LTI.

Agree. We wrongly dumped the pressure of co captaincy on a young kid funding his way.

What an absolute load of rubbish... Jones is a reasonably bright person who carries himself quite well in interviews - he certainly does not fall behind when it comes to IQ levels. In the past my only issue was that he seemed a little introverted, but that is certainly no longer the case; his confidence in himself as a person and a leader has grown with his confidence in his footballing abilities.

Isn't he basically co-captain anyway?

I was of the belief that even though Trenners and Grimes are "officially" captains, the leadership group collectively has the same goal to lead the group.

Making him "co-captain" wouldn't change anything aside from making fans think he is actually doing more than what he's already doing.

"Captain" these days is really just "media front" anyway. Nothing would change. He's already captain. Giving him the official title will just...well...give him an official title.

Wait until 2014.

my hatred for Damien Barrett is unparalleled. He speaks about footy as if he's reporting on the worlds biggest issues and i've never heard him come out with anything that isnt either over sensationalised or just a paraphrased version of what everyone else has been saying all week.

Well said, and to be honest i wouldn't be surprised if the suggestion that the captaincy might be abit much for jack is being floated around the club anyway, they clearly know things we don't or you would think that Rawlings, craig, brown, viney someone would have suggested this to Neeld anyway.

I guess my thought would be that watching him right now his confidence in himself and his body is already at an all time low. Having Jones there as back up in an official capacity could taken of the burden of him. We can't take the captaincy away from him (Barett suggests) that would be a slap in the face but giving him back up would I think help him.
