The pressure of captaincy aside, his lack of pace is that bad now that I cannot see him playing at AFL level.

Leading out from the goal square he was trailing his opponent by five metres who took an uncontested mark.

I've banged on about this a lot, but I just can't see where he goes to from here. Maybe he needs an extended spell in the VFL just to get some touch back?

You're right but neither are Selwood, Hayes, Mitchell, Sewell and Kennedy but there is some explosiveness to how they play.

Trengove doesn't need to be quick, the problem is he is now beyond slow and the limitation is so great he is now next to useless.

the first sentence was my next post, but i just think he is underdone, and that they are playing him in the forward line to build his fitness and almost play the forward pressure role.

and i think that his lack of full pre season gets highlighted as the match goes on, and hopefully as his fitness builds he can move into the midfield and then we will see the trengove of old!

I will take the word of Cameron Ling who said he wasn't in his first 2 years. Ling would have a better idea because he played against him. Both he and Watson think something is wrong and I'm going with them on this, something is clearly wrong.

Look, he's either injured or he has inexplicably aged ten years. I don't get it but his pace is totally gone. If it's not an injury, he's simply genetically very unlucky to have lost all his pace this quickly. Captaincy worries or not, you don't lose so much speed unless there's seriously something wrong with your body.

The year is farked. Playing him like this achieves no useful purpose. Take him out until at least the bye - call it a groin injury or whatever - but get him on a specific training program that allows him to recapture his fitness & whatever acceleration he had in his first two years.

He won't like it but playing in the condition he's in at the moment does neither he nor the team any favours
