GAMEDAY - ROUND 5

Chook

Recommended Posts

Surely the invisible man Davis gets a crack next with along with Fitzy , Spencer , Taggert and maybe Kent. Vinet too I hope .So much hype on the newbys seems totally unwarranted.

Some new blood please. Sick of watching more of the same underperformance each week. Maybe we'll find a jewell or two.

the starting backline today was the bigger problem... it sapped the players belief.

* I don't think Clark will be back for weeks I suspect

anyone who won't have a Dip has to go Out !!!

is that the total of goals kicked for the day?

It wasn't a huge margin but it was terrible. this Brisbane side was the weakest I've seen.

Bugger it! Let the Neeld apologists answer the following;

How did Pedersen go?

how did Rodan go?

Byrnes.?

And how was Moloney today?

How was this inadequate dill entitled to butcher this list?

6yrs of early picks & we still have the worst midfield why?

Moloney,Mclean,Gysberts,Scully all gone...why?

Davey as a sub..... whilst the spud Rhodan is getting game time why?

Bleese our future subbed & Rhodan the spud stays on why?

Maybe someone should be asking Neeld these questions.....absolutely!

Does anyone know what the players do at half time? Whatever it is it certainly does not work as it takes 15 minutes for them to start functioning again.

He didn't want to come to the club.

Actually I was talking to the nephew of one of the directors last year and he told me, before Beamer left, that we didn't offer him a contract and he wanted us too.

On another note Trenners should look at footage of how Mclean is now playing and try to model himself on him; he is slow but has worked his way around that by using his football nouse.

Things noticed: Blease has very little aerobic capacity whatsoever, Sylvia is still far and away our most talented footballer, Gawn needs to learn how to position himself in marking contests if he's to be of real value and ( I'm ready for protests) Watts was nowhere near horrible today.

And the umpires, whilst not deciding the match, were shite for us today. As per usual, Brisbane got the rub of the Greek. Terlich decision was laughable and a number of their handballs in our forward 50 weren't handballs at all.

There's a guy playing for Brisbane who's had 34 touches and 10 clearances, apparently he was a free agent last year... Wonder why we didn't go after him?

And how did he go last year? Flat track bully and nothing more, never will be. Part of the past never the future.

Hahahaha... What rubbish. Was a good player til Neeld came along. Fact.

Even the commentators were saying today how strange it is that someone can go from a BnF to cut from the team. Pretty clear implication there.

35 touches, 10 clearances. Could do with a "flat track bully" like that hey?

Looking at the stats, the most obvious one is centre clearances. Got smashed there 20-10. Lost the contested possessions 150-120. The one that bothers me most besides centre clearances in the Lions took 20 marks inside 50, and this seemed mainly due to the defensive zone. The overall possession count was a concern but the difference was 34 kicks and 82 handballs. We just don't run and carry like most other teams.

Let's be honest. That is where we are at. How we got there, who is to blame and what not is inconsequential in as far as moving forward. Mistakes have been made. Let's look at the game on it's merits.

We came in as a 5-1 chance today in a two horse race. That to me would say a five goal loss.

Negatives:

* run and spread is poor thus resulting in the huge disparity in possession.

* Hitting a target is also a problem.

* We need a target (s) up forward. Hurry up Mitch Clark and Chris Dawes.

* When the ball is going in fast to the opposition forward fifty, the back line looks shaky.

Positives:

* Max Gawn needs to be phased in as number one ruckman. Love his endeavour.

* The white flag wasn't run up. There was a little spunk shown up until the final siren.

* I'm thinking Shannon Byrnes is going to be a good pick up. He is having a go.

* Colin Garland = ditto.

Our spread offensively and defensively today was pathetic. What the hell was McKenzie doing playing on a half back flank when Moloney was running around on his own for three quarters? Evans played the second half on a half back flank.WTF. Pederson is a waste of space and offers nothing. I am not in the sack the coach camp but he lost points with me today. Trengove was treacle but you cant slap them for lack of effort and then slap the guy who had 10 tackles. Byrnes, Garland, Terlich, Gawn, Howe (first half), Watts (second half) only positives. Pederson,Blease, Tapscott, at least should go next week.

It's getting to the point now where we need to pick the best 22 runners in our team and just play them every week, because the minute you select anyone with a substandard tank, you just get absolutely destroyed.

We don't have the fitness or the desire to impact games of footy for more than about fifty minutes per game, and that's just unacceptable.

I'm not a Neeld supporter, that's for sure, but Byrnes was good today. Our highest rated player in Dream Team points.

Watts was ok especially up forward. We need to throw a bucket of money at Daisy Thomas at seasons end!!!! Our midfield is way below par and we need someone on field to assist their development.

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
