Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Trengove

I thought Jack Trengove had a horrible 2012 and the pessimist in me thought we may have fluffed another high draft selection.

But he is starting to work himself into some nice form after a long layoff.

A superb captain's goal in the last quarter. Doesn't look that important with hindsight but he had to kick that goal and it went gun-barrell straight.

Well done Jack.

Someone said in the game thread he looked slow like in 2012, but i dont think thats acxurate as he looks to have dropped some weight and is looking more agile and has found a yard of pace

and thank christ for that

i wouldn't exactly say he is quick

Lenny Hayes and Joel Selwood aren't quick, but they can be explosive in short burts (one or two steps or with a handpass in close), Trengove doesn't have that.

He is getting better no doubt but everything he does (even the way he talks) is slow.

I think you mark him harshly. His hands in close can be lightning.

Think Hayes has little in the way of burst speed. Rarely see him burst away from congestion. It's strength and lateral movement that get him out of trouble.

I'm talking over very short distances (which is all it takes). As you correctly point out Hayes has good lateral movement, but that further backs up my point in that he can have a little burst sideways (one or two steps), Trengove does very little in bursts.

I think JT does a lot of great work that doesnt necessarily receive the praise it should. He was good again today. I watched him quite closely. I think the majority of the times he is made to look slow is from direct stoppages, where an opposition player will burst by him. He will be flat footed. I still believe it's more about how we set up defensively across the ground and particularly at a stoppage. I cannot believe Neeld and Royal have not rectified this in the four matches thus far. Worrying. More so that they haven't seem to have identified our woeful set ups.

he didn't have a big preseason - still playing like a champ.

He is everything Melbourne football club needs to go forward, trains as hard as anyone, great leader, super talented and happy to not get the big stats and play his role,

today just showed how important he really is to this club.

I've said before I thought a year or two in the leadership group would've helped Trengove settle in to the role. His unnecessary pushing and shoving still irks me, and I wish he'd focus on the ball and the team. By appointing him so young, he missed out on the opportunity to play under and learn from an experienced captain. Perhaps the club could provide some footage of Robert Flower for him to study.

But having said that, he does present well, and I can see the improvement in his performance. I hope the improvement contimues, but I suspect it will take a couple of years for him to grow into the role of captain.

Much better than Scully.

maybe not today but I'm sure when their teams turn it around they'll both be guns. Trengove will never be fast and scully never a great kick.

It's scary that GWS have shiel, Greene, treloar, Whitfield and more.

In 5 years time some of the worst defenders or forwards in the Afl will be AA due to getting crazy midfield coverage

I listened and watched all you bag him and stayed quiet.

The kid is a star and has shown that already.

What a leader he is and a freakin gun. Watch him destroy from now on

When you are picked at number 2 and have shown you can play,

then taper off for a couple of years, you'll get critisized.

I wouldn't read too much into fans bagging Trengove, in my opinion it is more out of frustration

because they know he is better than he shows us.

Same reason everyone is so frustrated with Jack Watts at the moment, because he has all the tools and has shown good games,

but for the most of it he is insipid... Being a high draft pick will never help if you don't deliver, that is the reality of it.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
