Dank involved at Demons?

The Club made the admission when they reported failures in reporting protocols. How do you view it? Business as usual.......

As I said, I have been away from the news for the past few days... could you please point me to this admission where it relates to the Dank issue?

hardtack, let's say they were on top of things...

Don't you think when they conducted an internal review of their sports science matters, that perhaps they may have found that Bates had dealt with Dank? And if so, they may have come forward to the AFL, and clarified the matter, rather than dismiss any dealings with Dank apart from submitting that he applied for a job, but was unsuccessful/wasn't needed...??

The size of the internal review is questionnable and the top brass are responsible for it, the findings are misleading given what has transpired and hence it is indeed embarrassing for the Board, the fans and the AFL. Despite it being a somewhat correct answer based on their "apparent knowledge" at the time, to a direct simplified question provided by the AFL.

H_T, I really couldn't say, but I doubt they would have been privee to Bates' private sms messages to Dank (and vice versa), so if he was divulging anything, I'm not sure what they could have done.

Fluffy Hoopla & Speculation I doubt. Who was talking to the pharmacist at the end of the 4 corners programme Rhino? You have your view but I don't share it. I'll still sit with some other clubs lying low, no - very low.

Vlad isn't making any judgment on illegality at MFC but by making an incorrect disclosure about the nature and status of relationships and practices in this area, the Board have embarrassingly demonstrated that they are not on top of what is happening in the Club.

As a result, how can the AFL have confidence in what is happening at MFC? In addition MFC's faux pas has now opened to the ASADA investigation and an AFL investigation.

Peter Jackson will have a mandate from the AFL to go through MFC forensically like a dose of draino.

And all you have put up in defence is fluffy hoopla and speculation in regard to other clubs.

That's my point though. If you're going to conduct an in-depth internal review in such an important and significant issue, transparency is required. So the Doc should have been a starting point and questions should have been asked about any dealings with Dank. And all matters reviewed and revealed to the AFL.

Glossing over such important proceedings is mismanagement as far as I'm concerned. And you're not sure what they could have done?

How about being competent and thorough in reviews and governance for a start. Responsibility is essential.

Sorry, there was a typo in my response... I meant to say "if he (Bates) was NOT divulging anything, what could they have done?"

And climate change does not exist either.

No climate change has always existed. Thats a point that many seem to conveniently ignore. Our planet used to be in an ice age and then it was sub tropical and vice versa.

How did Misson then get comfort over what he was doing? What processes did Misson have in place to understand how he formed views or treatments? Given Bates was using a Sth Yarra pharmacy did Misson find out how he can to use the pharmacy? Did he meet with the pharmacy to ensure their protocols were appropriate?

They are just for starters........

Keep your politics off the footy board.

Are you suggesting Misson should have done this as general practice or in light of the board's inquiries?

Its not a political statement. And don't tell me. Tell the bloke who wrote the comment I responded to.

As I have stated twice already, I am not across all of the news relating to this issue (and I am sure there is much that you do not know yourself), but I can only assume that there is a point where Misson has to place trust in his medical experts (he obviously could not foretell what was coming). Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Forgive me if this has been noted in last couple of pages. RobbieF (i think) made an excellent point a few days back and one that i'm surprised has not been explored by the media.

Namely that the MFC have themselves said that the day of the Essendon presser they ensured all ties to Dank were severed. A bit tricky to do, i would have thought, if they had no knowledge of any dealings the club doctor (or anyone else) had with him. I mean you can't cut ties with someone you have no idea you have ties with.

Did someone mention Icebergs?

Last nights 7.30 report was a confirmation of a John Sylvester report in the weekend Age that drugs, supplements etc are rife in all sports in Australia and that extends to the AFL.

We are talking about highly competitive sportsmen looking for an edge and a way to extend their careers. We have been kidding ourselves that our sports people and athletes are squeaky clean. Why were MFC so pleased to get David Misson? Because his track record at other clubs was to get players, AFL ready.

Do I think Essendon were the only club with cutting edge supplements NO and all the other clubs that have employed the "Weapon" Dank or Dr Bates will come under scrutiny. The question is will there be any clubs that haven't nibbled at it.

Charters was at pains to say that he helped Hird get an extra year out of his career but that Hird wouldn't resort to cheating. Other players have asked to join the Dank program as they want that edge, didn't Dunne ask to come on board?

This supplement stuff is out there and has been for a while and we are now only getting to see the tip of the Iceberg.

Very interesting now that the anti-obesity drug is officially on the banned list as has been since 2011..the brown stuff is about to hit the fan

General practice. The horse has bolted in respect of responding to the Board enquiries.

As I have stated twice already, I am not across all of the news relating to this issue (and I am sure there is much that you do not know yourself), but I can only assume that there is a point where Misson has to place trust in his medical experts (he obviously could not foretell what was coming). Not at all. If you manage people in a business you are responsible for what they so or do. If you choose to manage them by only relying on their word then you are playing with fire. Misson is in the heat because he was not aware of what was going on in his department. That's his accountability over a critical area of player welfare.

Given you have admitted you are not up with this its a bit cheap making aspersions at others.

It's not a good look that the Club has no idea what is going on in player welfare. Especially given the AFL have been meeting clubs regularly over the past 14 months addressed their concerns and calling for club vigilance.

And then Essendon and then Melbourne.........

If the good doc was prescribing supplements that had an effect on players' fitness (as has been indicated), then David Misson - who is described as "Melbourne's elite performance manager" - surely had a pretty strong interest in knowing what the doc was doctoring his players with.

And while we're on the subject, once the Essendon/Dank stink happened and the AFL questioned each club on their dealings with Danks, if McLardy knew of the doc's dealings with Dank but didn't inform the AFL very openly and transparently (despite it maybe not being a speific answer to the particular question they asked) then he will be gone very quickly. If on the other hand, McLardy didn't know of the doc's dealings with Dank, then why on earth didn't he - as president - make damn sure that he had left no stone unturned in discovering what if anything was going on in the ranks in relation to interaction with Danks? Again, it's symptomatic of gross corporate negligence and he has disqualified himself as being fit to continue as our president.

The only hope for McLardy is that he made strenuous efforts to discover any and all club connections to Danks, but was bare-faced lied to by the doc.

This little gem surfaced after the GWS game:

MELBOURNE president Don McLardy has urged the AFL to guarantee that only people with integrity and the highest of values are attracted to positions of power in football clubs.

Indeed!

I know nothing about this but just as devils advocate. When first released Essendon and an unamed player from another club were put forward to Demetriou as coming up during the ACC investigation. They can't have full knowledge of every association players and staff would have. This may have been a broad directive to all players and staff attached to the MFC

Apologies... I hadn't realised that casting aspersions at others was inappropriate only if one ADMITS to not being across an entire issue.

Rank accusation to make based on a belief.

Interesting you say that since it was not an accusation but clearly a statement of belief.

BTW, you have not picked up 316 on another thread declaring Neeld to have lied when none of us can know if that is the case.

Now why would that be?

Posted

I posted this on another thread and I would love to know the answer.

Is Demetriou more angry with us for answering a specific question he asked, which has proven to be the correct answer, but at the same time omitting to volunteer further information to a question not specifically asked, than he is with Essendon for injecting players in the stomach with unknown substances and having secret contracts that the AFL was not aware of?

I would love any media person in this country to have the guts to ask that simple question.

Didn't see it. At this stage Neeld lying is a possible outcome that will either be proven right or wrong from the investigation.

For the sake of the Club I hope he is vindicated as truthful. The same for Craig and others. An unsupervised lone wolf is a disappointing but lesser problem than the integrity of individuals.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
