Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Oh and I forgot spread - it was actually there in the first half! If some have forgotten after watching the second half - watch it again. We spread and used it to create chains of possession instead of bombing it long to a pack (my pet hate)

On a positive note Stuie, Gawn to come in after very good game in the twos and blokes like Tynan and Blease did ok as well.

Should really be a Casey positive thread...

Gawn, Hogan, Strauss, and Kent amongst the best from what I've heard.

Hogan kicked 4.

Kent is a must, I would have thought. And I am hoping my favorite project player ( last one was Cook), Tynan ran into some form.

Ins:

Kent - I actually think he will have a big impact on the midfield

Gawn/Spencer: a real ruckman (Gawn if ready)

Strauss: does he warrent a go and if so who for?

Magner: once Nicho has an accident falling down a flight of stairs?

A blind monkey can see from NAB cup that Dean Kent was in our best 22. Strauss can kick.

We lack midfield depth and with when not punching/tapping (i.e. when kicking or handballing) we have periods of being absolutely thrashed out of the middle.

This then leads to Clark having to go back to stem the flow, we lose all forward line structure...

If we can get Gawn in the ruck and Dawes to come we would be able to clear more ball and keep a Clark and Dawes forward structure together for longer periods... this will improve us rapidly.

Good points. Still lack any dangerous goal kicking smalls forward of centre around drop of ball too. The opposition clears the ball too easy from the drop of the contests up forward. Having an under manned mid allows too many easy transistions out of our forward line. Not only too many easy transistions, our inability to put intense defensive pressure on through the middle & out wide means the ball is coming into our defensive 50 far too often & too quickly to get extra numbers back = heapz of marking/scoring opportunities for our opponents.

As much as I'm looking forward to Dawes coming in, we are still seriously deficient in the quality small man dept and have been for decades (with the exception of The Wiz) and the mid field stocks are ugly as hell

Not really anything new I realise.

Trying to be positive Terlich had another solid game. Evans, M Jones, Howe, Tappy & McDonald had a reasonable dip. Sylvia actually fired for a change. Clark was solid. Jones boy in and at it always giving his all. Grimes ok in the first half. Trengove showed something in patches but fairly dodgy under pressure. Much better game than last weeks effort though.

At least they fired a little for the first half. Beats one quarter or so against Port and about half a quarter against the bummers. At this rate we might win a match in approx 5 weeks or so!

Unfortunately, our midfield is so far below the required standard it isn't funny. Our forward line I don't think is too bad, but gets absolutely no ball at the moment, while I also think our back line isn't as bad as it looks due to the ridiculous amount of inside 50's and spare men they are currently having to deal with. At the moment, Nathan Jones is probably the only mid at the level required, while the likes of Trengove and Viney will (or at least should) get there.

There are only two things that can get our midfield up to scratch.

1. Time and Drafting - the likes of Viney, Toumpas and probably the selection of best mids in the next couple of drafts will need time to get up to the required level. Viney is already well worth his spot, but he still needs time.

2. Bringing in Experienced Mids - we have to go hard for Daisy Thomas and any other quality mid out there, but unfortunately unless we get them to sign something while they are blind drunk or asleep, it ain't going to happen.

So unfortunately, the only fix to our problems is time, and who knows how much of that we actually have.

I was impressed with Evans. Maybe it's just the number and the way he moves, but he reminds me a lot of Embley. He has the ability to find his own ball, is generally a nice kick and makes good decisions. Keep playing him off half back or the wing.

And, in that 2nd quarter, our forward press worked and the Eagles were under pressure.

Having said that, West Coast are a terrific team and have too many big guns, for now...

Darling....(shakes head)

M jones and terlich were very good today. Really like these two.

For stages in particular the second quarter or clearance work was really good

R bails heart as big as a lion, the kid can't take a trick but willing to get back up and go again

Go demons

M Jones and Terlich are both positives so far. They look very busy players providing alot of run. I like the way they go about it for guys that have played 2 games. I can see them being around for a while and expect them to get better as the year goes as they start to feel like they belong in AFL.

We played a bit more simple accountable football and looked better but we got tired. Chappy I mean Tappy is a forward:positive. Evans is a keeper:positive. Terlich M jones: positive. Mitch is a god:positive. Howe mark of the year: stock standard.

I must say that I thought Slyvia played his best game for the year as did Viney and Davey [until subbed]. Looks like out late draft picks were also astute with Terlich and M. Jones to be joined by Kent before too long [if his Casey form is a guide].

Ok so we lost ...........again (no surprise)

I though the first half of the game was great - we played like a different team. Once everyone calms down we can begin panning for the positives.

Our only problem is when things go against us (frees and a small margin) the team drop their heads.

Clark: is a god (wish I did not remove from dream team)

Sylvia: has potential to be a god

N Jones: A true fighter

M Jones: Looked like a 100 gamer

Terlich: I will admit I thought he would never fit in to the team (again played like a 100 gamer)

Tappscot: thought he showed a bit early (like a chappy role - wish they put him in the mid)

Davey: thought he was dead - showed a lot early (just feel we have lost those exciting/motivating players - Jurrah and Wonna)

Trengove - moved freely for the first time in ages (he just has to build fitness and then can help Grimes and Jones)

Spread (first half)

What else?

Mitch Clark is the only man able to turn dog [censored] into gold. Maybe Mitch Clark is god?

I havent read anything else posted (sorry if this has been said...)

Mitch Clark should be captain! Mitch Clark should be cloned 22 times, with (good) bits of Viney, Watts, Frawley chucked in there for different ability sets... and then Mitch Clark should become the most dominante AFL team in Australian Rules. Go the mighty MITCH CLARKS!

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
