So how are the Doggies going........Less members.......Less money......In debt....about 2 to 3 mil....But the AFL are just worried about us????

They are obviously pulling their weight........

No improvement in 6-7 years BD....Nobody has been anchored as long as the MFC

I would feel for neeld if he was given the ass for Roos with some help from the AFL as in time I think neeld could produce a lot of wins and considering how far back we are in terms of fitness and talent it has been bloody tough for neeld. But I want wins and as much as I dislike the AFL head office sometimes I'd be happy to swallow some pride and let them help us get a premiership coach.

Neeld has had 1 year....2 preseasons.......He is not responsible for the past 6-7 years......I can see what he is attempting to do.....and if we sack him now and pay out all the contracts and pay huge money for an established coach (who by the way cannot guarantee success)This club will suffer 6-7 more years of pain....

And a new coach would just click his fingers and all of a sudden we would be a finals side......To long?????

Geezzz.....He has been contracted to change this club's culture and fitness to bring it up to AFL standard.......And he hasn't done it in one year.....He must be bad.......

Get a grip!! I said nothing about a new coach getting us into finals by clicking his fingers. Neeld expected much better than he is delivering so far by his own admission. If you want to sit around for 5 more years.....fill ya boots!

I've had enough.

I hope Neeld succeeds but we have seen no improvement in 18 months...The AFL will be quietly demanding a better product i assure you.

Remember we do wear the AFL Logo on our jumper, they are involved.

Neeld has obviously stripped the list back, to deep too quickly i fear..which Bailey also did although DB was not wquite as Savage.

The way i see it Neeld has taken a very Bold risk, and at present it is not working...he has weeks to find the solution.

We have to show some improvement so people want to watch our games on TV.

Bossdog Shhhhhhhhh,

You can't harping on about the bulldogs, Lions, GWS and the suns. Who cares about them, we're here because we care about the MFC!!!.

GWS ans the Suns have had more AFL handouts then any other club in history. The point you're missing is that AFL football is Melbourne, with a team with Melbourne in the title is struggling it looks bad for the brand. They need a strong Melbourne name for games such as Melbourne vs Sydney, Adelaide etc.

Stop worrying about the other teams, the MFC is rotting a very well run organisation, that does not run kindly with the organisation. Either they/we resolve the issue or we shut up shop or move interstate. But you take your membership money away as that's what important here. Not attracting new supporters, sponsors and more importantly good afl players wanting to represent the red in blue.

In your words "god give me strength" the answer is right there in front of you. We're sick and dying we can either ask for help or perish. I'm all for helping us get back on track, look what it did for the swans! We could do with trucks loads of that.

And don't give me the old cliche of "sell our soul for a flag" this is about a prosperous future for the MFC that is it!

I think we have improved....Just little things WYL.....Even last week Carlton struggled to get it clear without pressure by the lads(not all the time but you could see what they were doing)....It will take time to gel but I think we are heading on the right track for once....

At the end of the year when Sylvia and Frawley walk and we potentially lose Watts too I wonder what the defence of Neeld will be then?

You can't sell people on potential when you are offering nothing. The AFL know exactly where we are and how dangerous our situation is.

If we don't get any new player buy on over the off season, 3-4 big name talents leave and we come out in round 1-4 of 2014 and get belted then where are we?

The AFL know where we'll be, and it's why we'll have a new coach at the end of the year. It's just business.

Yes i agree there was some improvement in the Second Quarter.

But the 1st was same old same old.

A lot of the general footy watcher would have switched off or switched over to something else.

It wasn't entertaining or exciting to watch.

Neeld as i said got rid of a lot of our list, and l think went to hard too quickly.

So it is up to him if he can extract some wins.

The birds ar just starting to circle.

Just wanting to know how you know that Sylvia Frawley(! Year to go on contract) will walk......I take it that this is just your opinion???......and you can sell people anything as long as you sell it properly...

I'm sure every player has said they're going to walk out of frustration with the crap that's going on at some point, doesn't mean they will or won't.

Sorry Mate......I switched off during Roo's Swans reign ...It was the most boring football I have seen.....I was not entertained at all....but it didn't stop them from winning a flag...AFL CEO said the same thing.....Time it will take time....but keep in there WYL...it will happen...

I don't 'know' (and neither do you), but I'm on what some people around these parts call the reality bus. Frawley simply looks like he doesn't want to be there. What insentive does Sylvia have to stay as a forward for a team that gets belted each week? I base my thoughts on what I see each week. I knew Moloney and Rivers were going because I couldn't justify why they'd stay.

And the fact that you are buying into a coach with a horrible win loss record is proof that you can sell people anything, but it doesn't convince me that enough people believe. Sports clubs don't have to sell results, but they have to sell hope or they become irrelevant.

Surely the club will make Chip see out the last year of his contract.......

I don't know why people keep saying he'll leave at the end of this year?

Something will happen yes. Will it involve Neeld long term?

The next few weeks will tell.

Neeld does not have seasons up his sleeve. This is no longer 2008.

I have never said that I 'know"......So... Just your opinion...a bit of a feeling????...Frawley is contracted if he really wants to go he will be traded to whoever WE want....He could end up at GWS or GC....Moloney and Rivers were free agents.....

He has a contract till the end of next year......If he goes the FD will go as well......The club will be paying out more contracts and then have to throw a lot more money for an established coach......Let him play out his contract and then make a decision on him....Just makes sense....

If we keep getting belted he will not see out his contract. It is quite simple. There is to much at stake for the Sponsors, the AFL, 7 & Foxtel & even the long suffering members.

Neeld expected improvement this year so we the members must hold him to that, & i mean scoreboard improvement.

Has there been another coach in his 2nd year that has had to put up with this much. Imagine Neeldy waking up this morning and hearing the AFL are pushing Roos to coach. He'd be thnking even the CEO of the organisation wont support me.

How many more rumours are going around about him that he has to put up with. Roos wont coach melbourne and he shouldnt do if the AFL are pushing him and big money to coach us if his heart isnt in it. I feel sorry for Neeld as a human being. Being criticised by everyone. I get if we were winning things would be different. I really hope we can win this weekend.

Look I know Roos would be great but I think he looks at our club and would think its to hard.

In the past month I have not heard him or anyone else mention the word "winning"

It is all Snap shots, small improvements, games played etc

It would appear we do not have the expectation of winning anymore.

Surely this week we have an even chance.

I will be hanging on ever word.

I might add that I don't expect to win either but I am not the coach or the FD.

Chip was at the Casey game, supporting his teammates playing for Casey on Saturday.

Not exactly the actions of someone who doesn't want to be there.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
