If the AFL do step in, it will be on their terms, and I reckon in the long term it will involve a relocation. For this year, it would involve ridding us of people like Schwab and perhaps Connelly and hand picking a new board.

Offer Paul Roos a 5 year, $2 million per year deal.

We have no oithe choice, unless we want to fold.

I agree. We are entering very dangerous ground, handing our arses over to the AFL on a platter like that. Pandoras box

It's a perfect fit. MFC is now a clean slate. No more ego, we have been destroyed mentally and spiritually, twice.

Roos can have complete control, pick his own team, 5 year deal worth $7-$10mil.

Craig as caretaker till years end, with Roos an eager onlooker to get the players motivated.

Hopefully there is a performance or no-confidence clause in neeld and schwabs contract.

If Roos is not approached immediately, the board and president are incompetent.

There will be no unity until obvious decisive moves are made in regard to football department.

This should have been done in 2007. Stupid, stupid board members. Really, sometimes the bootstudder has more nous.

I'm worried that another flogging will scare any coach or player away from coming to the club. I'm not as cut throat on neeld as I am on Schwabb

Well he's in luck because some MORON decided to give Cameron Schwab a 3 YEAR CONTRACT FFS!!!

I know what you're trying to say, but that actually sounds exactly like stability to me.

This is huge if this is true. I did not watch the game last night as i was at a wedding but my Essendon mates certainly let me know about it. If Roosey did come on board it would be FANTASTIC, I'm not holding my breathe tho. Things are in dire straights at the moment. Totally disheartening ......

Thing is, Roos can't make the players any older, more experienced, or better leaders.

Whoever is in charge, it's still going to take time.

If we keep wanting to change coaches at this rate, we'll go through another 3 before we return to serious relevance.

So how does Geelong get a whole crop of new young players and still dominate?? It doesn't take time at other clubs so what have they got that we don't have????

Which young players at Geelong are dominating?

Who exactly are you referring to?

I'm fortunate enough to be sleeping with the enemy and have quite an insight into the Geelong inner sanctum.

They have an "academy" that all the young players rave about as the single most important thing in getting them ready for AFL.

I think they attend if they are in their first 3 or 4 years at the club.

Around 2-3 days a week at the academy, like school, educating all the kids in the basics and then advanced aspects of AFL footy, so the coaches and experienced players don't spend their time explaining everything when they should be training.

Total control over the VFL team helps too.

In comparison, we have to educate pretty much 90% of our list in this manner, and until recently I'm not sure we've spent anywhere near as much time on this aspect. Still not sure that we do.

I'm talking about the team as whole still dominating. They have had a number of new players come into their team and the haven't dropped off??

What about Grant Thomas?

What about Grant Thomas?

Judging by some of GT tweets when we were seeking a coach and recent I reckon he would love the challenge.

He doesn't except anything but 100% effort for 100% of the time a policy we need to employee

Posted

I reckon he will be getting a few sneaky phone calls over the next day or two.

Does anyone think he is up for the challenge or will he tell them to get stuffed????

We're about 2 seasons away from attracting a coach of the standing of a Roos.

We need 2 more preseasons of fitness & bulk on our frames, & to sort thru the list & see who, of the ones already there, are ready to stand up in the game.

We are still only attractive to 1st Time Coaches atmo.

No Topline coach with any sense, would take the risk with their hardearned reputations, as there is too much work to do yet.

We already have a good coach to teach, & he has the Cohunas to make the tough decisions & to make the changes required.

We have a very good footy dept' now, but we are still working through the cultural issues & the changes from this, are causing some short term hiccups & exposing some, who aren't ready in their minds to standup & take the responsibilities.

We need to hangtuff.

If we don't at least inquire about his services and ask what it would take to get him on board, then our administration should give themselves an uppercut.

It costs nothing to ask, and you just never know your luck. If all it takes is money, or getting rid of certain people around the club, then bloody hell get it done.

I would also hope we chat to Williams, Eade and anyone else who we might think is worth while.

And FFS, stop listening to Gary Lyon!!!!!!!!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
