Time to go Mark Neeld

Grand New Flag

Yes, but you didn't need to harp on the point that he's wallowing in the twos - there was clearly an anti Neeld sub text there.

You gave no context or reason, just a remark to satisfy your end - Blease needs to learn the game and he's coming off a career threatening injury.

No - one improves under this clown? Garland, Joneses, Howe, Evans, Grimes, Terlich, Frawley all say hi.

Just stating facts with regards to Blease. Fifth year and he's playing regular seconds footy. Simple facts. And he was mentioned by Neeld as a player that had improved. Funny, I know.

And no, no-one improves under this clown. Frawley was AA before he arrived, Grimes played good footy before you knew Neeld's name, Jones has improved - as he always should have at his age, Garland is doing no more than what I expect, Howe is an amazing talent and I give no credit to the clown for that, and Terlich, who's a battler and Matt Jones weren't even here before him, so how could they have improved ?

Worst performances by a club in 30 years and you're gloating about player improvements ? You're either related to the clown or a border-line nutter yourself.

It's hard for you to debate when there are so many obvious, massive holes in your responses and posts.

I'm glad you resorted to rude, personal comments - a sure sign of a defensive mechanism when upper cognition is required, but, alas, for you, it's not there.

The decision of the MFC Board not to dismiss MN at this stage is intriguing and could have a number of meanings.

It could be that the Board has given MN one more week to coach against his previous club and then announce his resignation as coach of MFC after another bad loss, which would be a typical gentlemans' club reaction.

It could be that the Board intend him to continue, thus ignoring the groundswell of opinion, which would also be typical of a gentlemans' club reaction (and a disaster IMO). It would also confirm many people's view that the MFC Board is lacking the ability to take tough decisions and that this is the top-down problem for the lack of a winning culture at MFC.

It could be that the Board is buying a few more weeks to obtain a suitable replacement, but with each week they risk losing more players at the end of the season.

One thing that is clear is that the question of MN's sacking is not media driven - supporters have apparently been far more critical of MN than the media who took some time to realise MN's flaws and who also are reluctant to turn on coaches until it is clear they are gone - the 'self-preservation' culture - there would be some media who would be surprised by today's decision and will now be trying to cover their backs, until the next time!

It is also clear that players are not the cause of MN's current position - he has brought in players he wanted and the results have not improved. He has also lost players that he should have been able to develop if he was a genuine senior coach.

Where to from here? My guess is that after the Queen's Birthday game, there will be some action. The situation will only deteriorate if the Board do not act soon.

If neeld is sacked in the next 3 weeks to me it shows that the board don't have a clue. Either back the bloke in until the end of the year or if they are not confident he can do the job sack him. A caretaker coach halfway through a season is not a good look but what's the worst that could happen? We lose games by 100. That is happening now.

You only picked this date because a Board meeting was already fixtured and the media assumed that was the best place to fire a bloke - during their previously mandated meeting.

What, we can't get the band together for a special assembly of the Board?

I have said this before - I am more than happy to get these changes to the FD done concurrently to a removal of the coach.

I am not surprised the Board has decided, or been advised by JAFLckson, that a caretaker for Rd 11 (!) onwards is pointless and worthless.

A caretaker is pointless at round 11 but so is our footy team. Just back neeld in until the end of the year then to give him some breathing room.

Good post. My take? I agree he will go after the maggies game - for several reasons. First i reckon the club would have been loathe to feed the media vutures who were unseemly in their desire to see some blood. Waiting allows them to control then when, how etc and ensures they can do things on their own terms. Media management 101 and i suspect that is Jackson's influence.

Secondly this approach also allows a much more dignified exit for Neeld than would have been the case if they announced it today. For starters they can make sure Nelld knows the axe is coming so he can prepare himself and get his support systems in place.

Thirdly it means that in the likely event a care taker is appointed it means they won't start with a higt profile hammering against a top side. The next game we play fter the bye is the Saints at the G and whilst we will still likely lose it is a much easier game.

Finally the bye comes at a good time and perhaps means they have a little bit of time to go through a half decent process if they don't want to go with a caretaker. Though i guess they will be constrained in how publicly they can target or talk to someone like Eade or Williams (who will be watched closely by the media and the twiterati). I would assume they will have already started that planning process asnd perhaps even had some private chats.

Leon Cameron can't coach either obviously.

I reckon a coachless Hawks team could beat GWS and us by 90 points. The thing is, not all lists are of equivalent quality and experience, but some people just can't seem to get this.

Hawks beat them by 85 pts in Tassie

If it does happen, what an irony - Chocco (PA premiership coach) replaces MN who replaced DB who was an assistant under Chocco when PA won the flag!

It makes sense that the coach will be last to go.

Just getting the board right, then we'll be able to attract a quality coach.

At the moment, Roos and co won't go near us - because our board is about as ethical as Lance Armstrong.

Once all the pieces are in place, we should be all ready to go for 2014.

Yes I believe we can do much much better, with a coach and also with some genuine AFL bonafide players.

Media 101 for the MFC Board - never get the media off-side - continual references to Chocco being a luxury as an assistant and looking after the bench for the Tigers tonight.

It is funny how Kevin Sheedy has been coaching GWS for the same amount of time as Neeld and has less wins and are losing by similar margins but no one wants him sacked mid season. GWS have not improved at all this year.

Maybe cause GWS are 2 days old S.

GC did the same thing in their 2nd yr but are now miles ahead of us.

Does it really matter if the media or some of us "look like fools" cause Neeld wasnt sacked today? Does that make u happy?

Remember our team is a basket case going down hill fast. We have a coach who doesnt seem to have the players playing for him, we are getting belted every wk, there seems to be no spirit in the place, players are not playing like a team, by some reports some players are wanting to leave and selection each week is like playing Chook lotto (no offence CHOOK).

I think "looking like fools" is the least of our worries tbh.

The fact that they already have a succession plan in place for 2014 probably helps.

This is true, GWS are not rebuilding a rebuild remember - not Neeld's fault, but a factor...

There are ususally 11 of these meetings throughout the year, every single club and public company has them.

It was scheduled in the morning most likely because of the large agenda they had: PJ presenting his findings, FD report and current situation/What to do about MN.

What would you rather they do? Have it in the middle of the night, down a dark alley way, where they have to knock on an old rusty door and repeat the second verse of the club song to get entry?

It could be that the Board intend him to continue, thus ignoring the groundswell of opinion, ....

Statements like the above are made assuming the anti-Neeld posting here are representative of typical supporters. But posters here are clearly not typical. I'm confident there is a groundswell of disappointment amongst all supporters, but it's not so clear there is a groundswell of opinion on how to solve the problem.

In any case, I would expect PJ to make a better decision than anyone posting here or any groundswell detected elsewhere. So I'm happy if he ignores any groundswell. Yes, we pay our membership; so what. I pay my taxes, but I don't expect to tell the army who should be the next chief of staff.

PJ might just have some facts and inside knowledge on which to base his decisions rather than the mixture of media speculation and frustration expressed on this forum.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
