Will Garry Lyon

Does a good job at hosting a few TV shows about footy. Had ample opportunity to support the club officially and been asked this same thing on umpteen occasions by his fellow commentators. Always been clear he's not interested and only wants to continue in his present role/career.

He was a quality player for the club and i'll always appreciate the service and committment he gave on the field, but the club needs to grow up and move beyond ex players who won't committ but still like to be "seen" to be doing something on the odd occasions when asked.

Inviting the likes of Garry in (or whoever it is) to provide some sort of advice each time we have a change of coach or a crisis arises, smacks of amature hour.

P.S. I think it's a tad early to be calling for Neeld's head (inference of the OP banner IMO) but that's just my op. Keeping the faith for a while longer...not sure how much longer though. I guess the next 8 to 10 weeks will tell the tale.

Interesting tweet from Grant Thomas 6 days ago re Ross lyon. "I can say with some authority that Roos contacted G Lyon & informed him R Lyon was available (would have stayed in Melbourne). Alas no follow up!"

Garry was a great leader of our club & I think he's great in the media but he should never have been in involved in coaching appointments. I know it's spilt milk & we have Neeld & I back him & hope he turns us around but from what it sounds our procedures in appointing coaches stinks. Sheedy says he was actually interviewing us & was worried when he left about troubles ahead. Now reading this about Lyon seems like negligence of duty. Not to mention passing on Hardwick, Hinkley & Sanderson. Anyway the next coach MUST HAVE SENIOR EXPERIENCE.

One of the most inept performances in this club's history was to not drive around to Ross Lyon's house and sound him out. Paul Roos had been providing hints on OTC that he was worth talking to.

We're amateurs and deserve our lot.

Problem with the whole Ross Lyon situation was that both Garry and Ross were managed by Craig Kelly. Given that Kelly was blindsided by Ross Lyon (and subsequently parted ways after Ross went to Freo) it stands to reason that Garry would have sounded out Craig Kelly, was told that is nothing to the rumours that he was leaving the saints, because Craig literally knew nothing.

If Garry had gone behind his own managers back he would have jeoparised his own relationship with CK.

I don't think it is amateurish at all... Ross Lyon all but lied to his own manager, and his own football club. But Garry should have known better apparently?

BTW I am not a fan of what Garry has done recently to the club!!

Probably a fair summation.

Garry was a champion player and great leader of our club, however that, as they say, is that.

He helped us out (reluctantly) with a review as a promise to Jim. He is not the guy to take us forward, as a coach ( he has no experience whatsover ) or on recent performances, even as part of any coaching selection process should it be required.

He has done his bit. That should be enough.

Garry Lyon cares only about Garry Lyon.

The time has passed where he could have done something substantial for us.

Everything is so black and white isn't it? Wish I lived in your world stuie.

Reality is G Lyon was trying to help with both Bailey and Neeld appointments - trying to help the club like his mate Jim. So far Bailey was a bust and Neeld may be one too but G Lyon is not some selfish [censored] like people here make him out to be.

As Thomas indicated in his tweet. Paul Roos contacted Lyon and told him he was available. If Lyon was thorough and didn't want to jeopardise his relationship with Craig Kelly, surely he could have told any of Schwab, Galland or McLardy (as a panel) and they could have spoken to Ross.

Or did Garry not tell them????????????

I would take anything Sheedy said about us with a grain of salt. He wanted us to court him and for us to beg him to come to club, the interview process was probably beneath him. The vindictive old so and so will never forgive us. So GWS will really be set for this game.

Why would Garry believe Paul Roos over Craig Kelly though... Kelly manages both, if Garry said to Craig Kelly 'Roosy told me Ross is available is that true?', and Kelly said 'Nah mate, I have the contract with Ross and the Saints before me... its not going to happen.'

The saints and Kelly both though it was locked away... why would Garry not believe his own manager and close friend?

I think the last intervention was done as much for Jimma as it was for the club.....NO, he shouldn't be involved with the next coaching appointment, whenever that may be. Hopefully in a decade or two after a spate of flags!

Whilst this is all old ground now and we should probably look forward.....The Freo board went direct to Ross. If Paul Roos rang you and said, "mate, maybe you should try talking to Ross, between you me and the deep blue sea, he's available." Even though hearing from Kelly it seemed business as usual between the Saints and Lyon, you'd have to enquire. And if he didn't want to, at least discuss it withe the panel. But that remains to be seen.

If they're exploring all avenues and that it was going to be thorough, going to be "rigorous" and given their initial statement at the time, they'll move heaven and earth to find an "experienced coach", don't you think the avenue is worth pursuing given Roos' call to Garry?

That's total hogwash.

Lyon's intention was to get the hell out of Melbourne due to many personal issues that were taking a toll on his family. When the Freo opportunity came along he took it immediately..

That is straight from the horses mouth.

It was amateurish at the highest level.

I know they were manged by the same people and I couldn't give a flying. Getting the best coach for Melbourne was far more important than any personal relationship.

I've said it a number of times, but the Melbourne players were told that Lyon was their coach. Lyon did the dodge behind his manager's back and Neeld was appointed the next day.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
