Sylvia now an unrestricted FA

The reason why most are more harsh on Sylvia than the other players, is because he has a bigger chunk of the salary allowance than others. So obviously if he is only performing the same, he'll be first to go, or will have to play for far less money.

Pay for how you play. It's the only way it works.

People need to let go of the fantasy he can be a star. But he is already a very serviceable player.

Last year, he came back from a broken back in pre season and after the bye, went on to average 23 disposals and a goal a game, and we know he uses it well. Hardly the dud he gets painted as.

The issue with Sylvia is he should not be a "serviceable" player he should be a star. Joel Mc will never be star and thats ok - he has limitations. Sylvia has more talent in his little finger than Nathan Jones has - yet Nathan Jones performs to the best of his ability week in and week out. I can accept that we will have players of varying talent on our list - what we should not accept is players not performing consistently to the level of talent that they have.

For those of us oldies - I want bucketfuls of Laurie Fowlers on our list. He had a very small splash of talent but played week in and week out to the very very very best of his ability.

We will be a successful side when we have the majority of our players consistently playing the best they can play.

That's not the reason I have become numb to him.

You gotta pay somebody.

I have moved past the point of being harsh but when I was it was because he promised so much with his talent but has continual false dawns that make his lack of professionalism so galling.

About Sylvia being an unrestricted free agent OD.

I was being facetious.

We have nothing to worry about, in this regard.

(Whether Colin stays or goes)

Ok I think I understand.

I believe in him if he's interested in playing for us on a reasonable salary. No interest if he extorts us out of a fortune on the half chance that he'll have one or two top shelf seasons.

I believe in Colin.

is that a real statement or a jab at whoever that was (I forget) who had 'I believe in Tom' as his signature for ages until the pr-ck cleared off as tipped by E.McGuire months earlier? Great example in 'believing' in these blokes

After giving it some thought, I actually think FA can benefit clubs like ours if we do it smartly. Sure, we may lose some players but we can also pick up quality older players as a stop gap for a couple of years which could really help our competitiveness until our young stars are ready.

If we can go out and get ourselves a couple of good older mids who may be chasing a little extra coin in their twilight we can start to see improvements in our midfield. More wins will equal more members which we badly need.

I like this but it needs a fair amount of expertise on the part of our recruiting people in first, recognising the player we want and second, convincing him to throw in his lot with the club. I know Tim Harrington did well back in October/November under tough conditions to secure players from different backgrounds and different age levels but this is a challenge that that starts now. To get quality players ahead of the rest of the competition, you need to start early and be decisive in what you're doing.

As for Colin, I would like to see him settled in a position where he can contribute the most to the team.

I was taking the pee a bit. I'm actually completely numb to Sylvia these days, I jumped off the rollercoaster ages ago. It wouldn't surprise me if he played out of his skin this year and then buggered off, but my gut feeling is that he will stay.

He misses brent moloney and is an unrestricted free agent..

The John [censored] guy must be Caros little office patsy.

"Haven't got ime to undermine the MFC today John, can you trot something out to ensure Sylvia leaves Melbourne by years end, I'm busy trying to destroy some other

careers in footy today.I've got so many lies to tell about other people, I just can't keep up."

"Sure Caro-I'll just scour Demonland for my facts and churn out an ad for Sylvias manager so he gets an offer he can't refuse."

"Thanks John"

"Anything for you Caro".

Would prefer to keep him and hopefully he doesn't break balls over the contract.

Exactly the type of wildcard you'd love to take into a GF, could easily see him winning a Norm Smith (if he ever gets there).

I completely agree - he is exactly that type of player. But I've reached the point where I'd rather take a punt on someone who might contribute week in week out to getting us into a grand final.

Mao Tse Tung around 80 years ago when introducing his game plan for a communist China said win over those who can be won over easily and work on those holding the middle ground. I think col is one in the middle ground and hopefully we can keep him! He is handy, good body and at the very least a usually competitive player! At the end of the day he could be what wins us a grand final. He won't be leaving for more money that's for sure as we will have a bit of quid freed up and could front end him a decent offer.

However he did also say shoot those with an immunity to change which Neeldy did with Moloney, Martin, Morton, Gysberts so it could also be on the cards with col. Although from all reports his defensive side to his game and his team orientated play has improved.

I'm hoping a big year for col and a big statement by signing on with the dees

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
