I find it funny that we discuss 10 year players on here, as though they can suddenly change and become brilliant. At that stage, what you see, is what they are capable of.

The type of player Colin is are carried by all the successful teams. The problem is Xfactor players are never as successful in poor teams. Jared Brennan whilst still frustrating was excellent in at the time a top 8 Brisbane team; put him in a [censored] Gold Coast team and he plays 2's.

This is an excellent comparison which I hadn't really thought of. He definitely has a lot of Jared Brennan about him in that context.

I won't stick a fork in him til midway. through the season. Certainly his performance against Port alluded to the same old Sylvia, but there were some very positive signs out of the Saints match. Tragically I think it's correct that he is just isn't a great midfielder, as much as we need him to be.

If Griffen were available I would chase him over Daisy but just MO, Tommy Rockliff is another I would target but lets see how we go with our new mids and their development. Although I am all for getting a midfield like Sydney's which has plenty of players to rotate through and also play a role up forward.

The development of Jeremy Howe will be a fascinating one over the coming seasons. If our beefed up Football Department are as good as we say/hope they are, JH will become a quality midfielder/half forward, and potentially be a Top 10 in the league player. He is on the cusp of becomming a star, or going down that same path that many red and blue jumper wearers have before him.

The thing about Sylvia is that he was picked at 3rd, (two before McClean at 5th in the same draft) yet we were all saying the same things about Brock (including too slow) yet in the last half of last year he suddenly erupted for Carlton and now is a MVP. I feel that Sylvia is capable of similarly lifting!

Said it before and will say it again about Silvia, he lacks awareness, vision and decision making and it's why what you see is what you are getting. Let's see if the FD can harness what he does have and make him a valuable contributor.

Nailed it.

Sylvia for the 100th time is bone lazy, Just watch him. His 2nd and third efforts are virtually non-existent. occasionally he he does something like he did against Ess last year and everyone goes - WOW...

Its his 10th year and its another top draft pick that we have f**** up.

Sylvia has not show enough so far, there is nothing in his performance so far to suggest that he has changed in anyways. At his age its a bit much to start to expect he is now going to turn it on. I would think Neeld is giving him time to see if he can come up with the goods, as he probably is with Davey if they dont, then they probably wont start round 1.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
